  1. I've not used CLE music but I ran across some samples when I was looking at other subjects. The CLE yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/christianlightfamilies/ has some great samples of a lot of their subjects. You have to join to look at them but the group is very nice and knowledgeable too. The music samples I saw are in the file with the 6th grade samples (in the photo section)
  2. Hi - newbie here too :001_smile: Dh and I have been married 18 years (as of next week :)). We're in our 10th year of homeschooling. We have 3 children: Ds15 was homeschooled through 8th grade and is currently in ps for 9th grade (loving it and doing very well) Dd11 has been homeschooled from the start. I'm just reading the WTM all the way through for the first time and wishing I had read it from the start! Our little guy (ds8) has multiple disabilities and keeps us hopping with doctors and therapists but he is a major joy and blessing. He is part time in spec ed and part time at home with me. I'm enjoying being here and looking forward to hanging around more this summer.
  3. Are the CLE LightUnits that are not Sunrise AOP Lifepacs with a different cover? I noticed in the CLE catalog that one highschool subject offers the AOP teacher book. If so, is it the same for all the non-Sunrise LUs? Thanks!
  4. :iagree: My daughter loved this series so much we ended up buying them for her. At the time she also was uncertain about big looking books. These were perfect for her.
  5. This is us too. We're in FL and registered with district (never a problem in 10 years) You do register in your own county but the rules are statewide. FPEA is a great resource for homeschooling in FL. They have wonderful guide you can access on their site or contact them for a copy. We still refer to it when questions come up.
  6. I didn't think of a Rune kit. Thanks! She has the Hieroglyphic Treasure Chest and loves it. I'll look around and see what I can find.
  7. Julie - thanks so much for taking the time to put all those links together for me! :001_smile: The first name one looks great - she'll love that. She's got several books like the ones at Amazon. She's wondering if a writing practice book like Zaner Bloser or Reason for Writing is out there somewhere. I'm sure we could just get a blank handwriting tablet and make some up.
  8. My dd loves ancient studies - she would stay there forever if she could :001_smile: She really wants to learn how to properly write some of the languages and asked me if there are books like her regular penmanship that would help her practice. Right now she is working on Hieroglyphics and Runes. Does such an item exist?
  9. Our 8 year old has a rare chromosome deletion. We have found these organizations to be very informative: Chromosome Disorder Outreach http://www.chromodisorder.org/CDO/ CDO has a yahoo group which I have found to be very supportive. They have a vast data base and offer family networking to connect people that are dealing with similar situations. Unique http://www.rarechromo.org/html/home.asp Unique is based in England but they have lots of members from the states and around the world. Wonderful group. The also offer a data base and family networking. I haven't been on it in a while but they also have a forum of sorts with very supportive people. Both organizations have registries to contact people with any information available and other families in the same or close situation. Both organizations have periodic publications. We found both of these groups invaluable when we trying to find other families dealing with our deletion. We've found that even though other children have different deletions than our son we all share a lot of the same struggles and our children have some similar struggles.
  10. Thanks so much for these thoughts! The examples on your blog are wonderful and very helpful.
  11. Thanks so much for taking the time to type that out. It is very helpful :001_smile:
  12. With this in mind I'd be inclined to check with the new school. It might be better in the long run for your nephew to sit in class for a week or two in order to make sure everything is done correctly.
  13. This is a good idea. I'll have to look at the CLE 6th and 7th grade LA and see if they lend themselves to skipping the spelling without detracting from the program. I glanced at the LA samples but didn't spend too much time because I knew spelling was included. I love what I'm seeing in the Math. DD has testing next week (state requirement) and then I'm going to have her do the placement test for CLE Math. I just ordered and got the ACE Word Building and I like the looks of that. We'll have to see how it is as we go along. A friend is lending me some 6th and 7th LA PACEs to look over. I've been seeing mixed review on the ACE LA. Some feel it is right on target and others feel children that use PACEs are quite behind.
  14. My son has a severe speech delay. At 8 he still has no spoken language. He communicates with a communication device (Dynavox) and some sign. His delay is due to a chromosome syndrome and very possibly apraxia. We are still waiting on the apraxia diagnosis. He also has cognitive delays. I'd be happy to share anything of our experience that might be helpful.
  15. This is what I was thinking also. I see that ACE seperates the LA from Spelling. When my older son was using LifePacs he was working through so quickly the spelling was getting lost in the shuffle. He found it frustrating. I think dd would as well. A CLE/ACE combo may work very well for what we need. Thanks!
  16. Thanks! Good heads up on the introduction of concepts. I did see the diagnositic tests on their site. I'll print them out and have her do them. This sounds like a good choice for her.
  17. I'm new over here at WTM but not to homeschooling (we're in our 10th year). We have 3 children - ds15, dd11 and ds8. My question relates to dd11. My youngest has special needs which means lots of doctors, therapy and time on the go. We like what we're using but it all needs us at home working together. I'm looking at some things that seem more portable and somewhat self motivated. CLE and ACE are some that I've looked at. Math for now (we're now using Saxon) and possibly LA in the future. I don't want an all inclusive LA (we want Spelling separate). We've used LifePacs with ds15 in the past and he really didn't like them. Would love any thoughts or other suggestions. What we're using now - Saxon, Spelling Power, SL core 6, SL Sci 5, Easy Grammar, Keys to Good Language and other little stuff. Thanks
