  1. Then it is o.k. by me!;) Thank you to ALL who posted such wonderful ideas for me. I think what we will do is "try" General in 6th and see how it goes. We can pull back if we have to. Oldest dear son suggested that we put Advanced Chem or Advanced Bio. AFTER Regular Chem, which would give us a buffer year so that PreCalc and Physics would fall together in 11th grade.:D So here is what it would look like: 8th:Algebra/Biology 9th: Algebra II/Chem 10th: Geometry/Advanced Chem or Advanced Bio 11th PreCalc/Physics 12th: Calc/Advanced Physics Going to our church again to help with flood victims. The need is SO great here in TN. Please pray for these families. (Not much school getting done here this week. But God's work is!:D) Blessings to you all! Brenda:001_smile:
  2. Well, #3 ds does the science exploring all on his own....We have gotten him sets of this and sets of that for years for his birthday. He participates in scouts and is constantly building things. He reads science books on his own. And we have done the WTM style of learning up to this point. But now it is time for some type of text style of learning. This text style really fits his learning style better. Anyway, THANKS for all the wonderful ideas that I have gotten from this post. Just incredible! Blessings, Brenda P.S. continue to pray for the flood victims in TN. It is bad here. Very bad. Going to help with that today at our church. Our homeschool "umbrella school" Faith Heritage Christian Academy in Millington has ALSO been flooded. 4 inches of water in the school. Please pray for these people.
  3. DS#3 will be doing Pre-Calc in 11th grade. So, if that is the case, then we should do General Science in 7th. Trig is very important for Physics. I forgot that. It would look like this: 7th: General Science/Pre Algebra 8th: Physical Science/Algebra I 9th: Biology/ Algebra II 10th: Chemistry/Geometry 11th: Physics/PreCalc 12th: Advanced Physics/? CC If I start this series earlier, in 6th, he won't have the math that he needs to do Physics. Hmmmm...... Thanks for reminding me.
  4. O.K. if I am just crazy as a loon, just let me know. BUT.....I have a very science guy that will probably go into engineering. I would like to get him through as many of the Apologia books as we can before he goes off to college. Science and math are his gifts, along with writing. Am I just CRAZY to start the General Science text in 6th grade instead of waiting for 7th.? Has anyone done this? Blessings, Brenda:001_smile:
  5. Bless your poor sweet heart!(Said with my best Southern drawl!) Like you could control that! Brenda;)
  6. And prayed for you yesterday as those strong storms moved through your area. Brenda
  7. YES! My mom lives in Dickson, TN and flooding is ALL around the Nashville area. I have lived in TN for all my life, including the Middle TN area, and I have NEVER seen anything like this before. Never! We are in Tipton County in West TN. Brenda
  8. I was wondering about YOU, Polly! Did you make it through the recital yesterday? Blessings, Brenda:001_smile:
  9. I am a homeschool support group leader of about 50 families in the North Memphis/Millington/Munford area of TN. For those that don't know, there is a Navy base in Millington. A levee has been breached in Millington and the families on the Navy base have been evacuated. That would include 4 homeschool families in Millington. We are in contact with them and they are all safe thus far. They just can't get back to their homes right now. Please pray for these families and others in the TN area. I will get everyone posted as we know more. Blessings, Brenda (Who hangs out on the high school board.:D)
  10. There was not a drop of rain last night. The evening was just beautiful. Thank you to all who prayed us through. But we need to continue to pray today for these area. We have tornados everywhere today. And the flooding is just awful. Brenda
  11. All the decorating is done and not a rain drop in sight! Looks like the severe weather is not scheduled to hit here til after we are done with the ceremony. God is SO good to us! Thanks for all your prayers! Brenda:001_smile:
  12. Thanks, Julie! We will be praying for ALL the homeschool families today. Looks like it is going to rough, weather wise today and tomorrow. Blessings, Brenda:001_smile:
  13. We are planning a Boy Scout Eagle ceremony for my oldest DS for Friday night at 7:00. But there is the threat of severe weather in our area tomorrow. Would anyone here have time to pray for SAFETY for folks travelling to and from this ceremony? Don't want to be a bother to all of you. Just sharing my concerns. Blessings, Brenda
  14. We did a few things to up the math score on the ACT. DS just got a 31 on the Math subtest. 1)Complete his course in Pre Calc 2)Review the lessons on the CD SAT math review videos. 3) Practice, practice, practice....We spent the 4 weeks prior to the ACT taking ONE full practice test on our Friday morning(That was 4 practice tests in all). The WHOLE test, now, not just the subtests that he needed to improve. DS says that this was key for him. GETTING USED TO THE INTENSITY and TIMING OF THE TEST. KEEPING FOCUSED FOR THE WHOLE TEST and NOT LOSING FOCUS ON THE READING AND SCIENCE REASONING. We even talked about that this was like training for a race. 4)Relaxed the week of the test-No practice tests 5)Ate a good breakfast the morning of the test. (No sugar cereal here!) 6)PRAY! At some point you have to let this go and just give it God. Do the best job that you and your child can do to prepare, but then let God do the rest and give HIM the glory for the outcome. Think that is about it. HTH, Brenda:001_smile:
  15. the post. Sorry about that. No frowns here today! Brenda
  16. We got scores in too. We used Math Relief w/Mr. Firebaugh for Algebra I and Algebra II followed up by good 'ol MUS Geometry and Pre Calc. And we did ALL of the LOF books just for fun.:001_smile: DS got a 31 composite w/ 31 on math subtest. Here is the bottom line for us:(Got this quote on the WTM board last week) "A good soild curriculum, applied regularly, with time dedicated to school, will cause learning to occur." It is the law of the harvest....:001_smile: I guess I just want to support what was said about TT. Find what works for your child, then do it to the best of your ability and let God to the rest. Doing the happy dance here in TN! Blessings, Brenda:001_smile:
  17. Thanks FOR all the help! AUGH! About to lose my mind.....Planning an Eagle Ceremony for next Friday. We are so excited! Blessings, Brenda
  18. Thanks ya'll! I would LOVE to say that I am finally settled on this. But just not there yet. But I'm sure I will be in time. Thanks to all of the help you gave me.:001_smile: Thinking, praying, thinking, praying...... Brenda
  19. But you do a GREAT job at "selling" DIVE Chemistry!! LOL!;) Brenda
  20. For those of you who use DIVE Chemistry, which text do you prefer? AND How many of the labs did you actually do in your home? AND Where did you get your supplies? Homesciencetools?
  21. :iagree:the bottom line is this: a good solid curriculum, applied reguarly, with time dedicated to school, will cause education to occur. GREAT QUOTE!
  22. I have a story to tell you..... I have a friend who is recovering from cancer. She homeschools her children. And she NEVER thought that she would be using a curriculum that was a fill in the blank, git r done, type of curriculum. But she is. And the kids are doing well.:001_smile: She got the AO Lifepacs for all her kids. Workbooks. Everyone is progressing and moving along. It has turned out just fine. Sometimes in our homeschool journey, we get to point where we just can't do the "classical" method as outlined in the WTM. And you know what? It is O.K.!!! There are just different seasons sometimes. I got very sick back in the winter and ended up in the hospital. We did the very same kind thing, but we used some of the CLE light units. WOW! What a blessing to our family. And everyone is still learning and progressing. This may just be a different season. You may have to try some new things. But it WILL be o.k. Find what works for YOU, and find what will work for your family. Pray for guidance. The Lord will lead you, dear one. Brenda:grouphug: P.S. Do you have a local support group near you? Sounds like you need to go for coffee with some ladies that could offer you encouragement. If you ever get close, to Memphis, just let me know!
  23. I'll go check out the link and see if I still have any more questions. Blessings, Brenda P.S. Do you ladies do another LIT program with this, or is MFW enough?
