  1. Yea for you! Today went well for us too. Started early since I have 7 now from Sophmore to nursing new-born. Knew I was not quite ready, the schoolroom was not perfectly prepared and neither were the lesson-plans. Yet, the day went well, even made dinner!
  2. For my 10th grade DD we used Story of the World 4th through 7th grade followed by 1 year of American History using the Artner's guide (available through Memoria Press). Now for high school we are using the Great Books program 4 year cycle available through Angelicum Academy. At the same time I had my now 8th grade DD use SOTW for 2nd through 5th grade, 1 year American History, 1 year World History (Christ the King, Lord Of History)Now 1 year of Modern History, then next year she will begin Angelicum program. I was just talking with my little sister about it tonight and talked her out of starting her 1st grader with SOTW this year. It is so amazingly wonderful that I think it is a little of a waste to start it too young. We did all the projects and so many corresponding literature suggestions and the tests as wel. They got so much out of it! lI have tried to do my kids as sets. I am now on another set of kids and again waited for 2nd and 4 th grade, b/c I think it is ideal to start in 3rd grade. Ana
  3. Hi, I just got Auralogs "Tell Me More" Homeschool edition. Have any of you used this? I am going to start it with my 8th grader. I am wondering if the 5 levels are sufficient for high school credit or if I will need to get the next levels. She has no background so we will have to start with level 1. Since the program is kind of expensive I was wondering if I should get her some basic textbook for this year and save the program for next year and use the higher levels. Please let me know if you have any advice! Ana
  4. OOOHHHH! I will never forget the embarassment of lying on the ultrasound table crying while they told me I was expecting DD #4. "I said, it 's not that I don't love girls, it's just that my husband will want to do this again next year!" Our Sophia is a lovely blessing and was followed by 2 brothers. Take consolation in the fact that as soon as you see your beautiful child and hold him in your arms, you will be filled with joy!:001_smile:
  5. I used Artner US History guide, purchased through Memoria press for my 6th & 8th graders, will use again.
  6. I just saw that you can purchase it through acbooks.net at a discount. Ana
  7. Look at greatbooksdiscussions.org. My 14yo dd loves it. For younger kids they offer Socratic discussion groups. I teach one of these out of my home, so I do not use it for my 7th grader, but otherwise I would. Ana
  8. I had a similar situation. I combined a 1st grader with a 3rd grader and we went through all 4 years of SOTW. While they both loved it, the 1st grader (now in 7th) admits she did not get as much out of the 1st year or 2 and only vaguely remembers it. The 4th year was also more difficult for her in terms of the tests. So, this time around with my 2nd set of daughters, to maximize the effectiveness, I waited for the younger one to be in 2nd grade and the older one to be in 4th grade. Ana
