Jacobs Algebra vs. Math Relief...
KatKat replied to Magic Wand's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
My dd just finished all 3 phases of Algebra 1, she has struggled with Math all her life but she rarely needed my help in this. She watches the dvds and I just check her work after. Algebra 1 has only 145 lessons, but some of the lessons aren't really lessons but tests. I am happy very to have used this program as this is the only thing that worked with her. We tried Teaching Textbook, Classmate Algebra. I have to add though that this does not go as in depth as Chalkdust Algebra 1... Math Relief Algebra 1 barely touched word problems , only age and number sequence problems . There are no time, rate distance , mixture etc.. . I think these topics will be taken up in its Algebra 2 program which has 80+ lessons. -
Hello, I was wondering if BJU Geometry student activity manual is optional or required for this program. I just purchased a used BJU Geometry bundle and the student activity manual is not included. Thanks so much for any info you can give Gabs

So, LOF vs Math Relief vs TT??
KatKat replied to StaceyinLA's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I had TT Algebra 1 , my dd is using Math Relief Algebra 1, Math relief moves more slowly than TT. My struggling dd couldn't handle TT but is doing fine so far( lesson 67) in Math Relief. Mr Firebaugh teaches very very step by step , if the student is good in math, he may be bored with Firebaugh. But for a struggling learner, Math Relief is wonderful. -
Has anyone seen the new "Singapore" workbooks?
KatKat replied to Karen in CO's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I have the 70 Must know word problems from level 2 to 6 and Math Problem Solving Strategies levels 4-6 both books released by SAP Some of the word problems are similar to CWP, some are different. One thing I like best about the books are the solutions. CWP do not have solutions. Don't know why Frank Sheaffer is selling them so expensively though. In Asia, the 70 must know word problems costs USD 3.00 at bookstores. -

Meaningful Composition , christian questions
KatKat replied to KatKat's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thank you, I contacted her thru her website and she responded, she said 3 weeks of out the 18 weeks are Bible heavy. -
I am interested in Meaningful Composition for my two very struggling writers, 11 ds & 14 dd. I do not have objections on using a christian curriculum even if we haven't tried one.. I have one concern though, does the program assume previous Bible knowledge or know Bible stories to be able to do meaningful composition? (My dc do not know Bible stories) How much of the topics/writing assignments are Bible based? like write how Jesus, etc.. ... I read one online sample and it said to look up a word in a Bible dictionary. We do not own a Bible dictionary and it wouldn't be a problem if this is done few and far between , we could look it up at Bible dictionaries online. ...Thanks for any info you can give.

The Pre-algebra Instructional dvds I bought is 4th edition, isbn 9780618372706 , currently selling new at half.com for 25.00 , used at amazon at 19.00 ,the 4th editions of the Prealgebra book and student solutions manual are currently less than 1.00 each plus shipping I bought only the dvds because I just needed it as a review for my ds before going to Algebra . But just wanted to say that you can do this all the way to Calculus . You may not find the exact same editions as chalkdust books but still you get Dana Mosely teaching in all the dvds . Just match up the books with their supplements . (solutions manual and DVDS)
-
If you want to try Chalkdust Prealgebra because Dana Mosely is doing the teaching. You can save a lot of money by buying Houghton MIffllin textbook by Aufmann (same author as chalkdust prealgebra) , get the student solutions manual( solutions to all odd numbers) and instructional dvds . You probably need not spend over 70.00 for everything at amazon.com or used book sites The Houghton Mifflin Prealgebra dvds I bought at amazon.com last year for 25.00 is produced by Chalkdust company and the lecturer is Dana Mosely. The list of topics(lectures) chapter numbers (1.1, 1.2 1.3 --- all the way to the end) is the exact same sequence as what is listed in the traditional set You just need to do some research on the net to find out what editions go together.

After finishing Math Relief Algebra 2......?
KatKat replied to KatKat's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Thank you -
Thank you for all the suggestions. I see value in going slowly but deep when using Foerster or other rigorous Algebra text. But I want math to be non-stressful at the same time because he is still young, turning 11 next month. I will try your suggestion of using tt 1 & 2 and foerster word problems. thank you very much
-
Can a child who does Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1 & 2 successfully be able to tackle Algebra 2 and Trigonometry by Foerster. even if only the Algebra 2 part? My son is 11 and has finished Singapore P6 and is finishing up Keys to Algebra soon. He has ADHD and can't sit through 25 to 35 minute lectures of Chalkdust. I was thinking of having him do TT 1 & 2 first and then Foerster . Will TT Algebra 1 & 2 provide a good enough foundation to shift to Foerster Algebra 2 ? I really would like him to do Foerster in the future because of its word problems. Thanks for any suggestions.

Buying from Amazon.com questions
KatKat replied to KatKat's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thanks so much for such quick replies. -
Does amazon allow purchasing of books but sent to someone's else's address. I would like to purchase some books and have them delivered to my cousin's house. Does amazon allow this? If it is allowed, can I still take advantage of free shipping for over 25.00 ? Thank you so much
