  1. :grouphug: Tex and family. Have fond memories of pet hamsters as a child.
  2. The young cat just got stung on her pretty nose by a wasp. Undeterred, she is still hunting for the spicy tidbit that got swatted and removed to the trashcan.
  3. :grouphug: For chronic illness, pain and just plain old getting old. Which is a pain. :glare:
  4. To paraphrase a pirate, "I always thought of it as a set of guidelines, like." I don't follow the book exactly. I do look at all the schedules and get a rough idea of what I want to do from them. Same thing for curriculum lists, book spines and additional reading. I only have two, so I can't comment on the intensity for multiple children. The organization for two has not been a problem. I've been able to adapt what I have needed to for our school year and weekly schedule. I find that whenever I am starting something new or untried, I can expect that it will be time consuming, challenging to organize and a general pain in the aft section for a while. Then I'll settle in, change what I need to change, and we find the steady state.
  5. I'm kind of worn out this week. Just a lot going on, and I've been out of the house this week more than I like. Today's schedule: French-Unite 14, workbook Latin-Unit 4 Review, study grammar, workbook Math-Quiz 2, 1 page of Key to Decimals Writing-Diagramming for Grammar, free writing History/Science-swap from yesterday Literature-swap from yesterday For me: French, Latin, Geometry, Writing, Housekeeping, Cooking, Library Night.
  6. Nightly trips to the bathroom are just routine for me. I drink way too much caffeine during the day. I don't know why the bird is called a Tufted Titmouse. Then again, I don't know why they call another bird a Summer Tanager or a Roufous-sided Towhee. I can vouch for the fact that the Tufted Titmouse has a tuft, is gray like a mouse and squeaks like one when you catch it. Birds are not my thang--way too much cat in me. I love the cup, Lynn. I still want my Evil Overlord shirt. I think Imma be a author when I grow up. Squillion dollars and all.
  7. It's taken us most of a year and lots of practice at a slower speed to catch up with him! But we have! Oh, and totally memorize the accusative prepositions to the tune of Jingle Bells. It works better.
  8. I just spent thirty minutes of my life trying to get a Tufted Titmouse out of the garage. I finally cornered the little monster and grabbed him, and he still had the strength to scream bloody murder and bite me. Because I am a nice person, I did not throw him to the opossums and foxes, but got him to a safe perch on a house lamp, and left the light on for him so that nothing would bother him while he recovered from his fright. He's still on the lamp, very fluffed, ruffled and mad at the world. Second time this stupid bird has let himself into the garage under a cracked door. I recognized his silly little beak right away. :glare:
  9. Time for a song....You can't always get what you want.... My kids hate me.
  10. I'm hoping to imitate Demosthenes, who declaimed his speeches to the waves. Yup. I think the boys get a kick out of watching me growl and snap my way through it right along with them. And we have fun giggling at the instructor on the DVDs, and making fun of him now that we can actually keep up with the recitation! So yeah, totally worth it. And study sessions at night with cinnamon toast and cocoa are pretty fun, too. ETA: So I don't really study ahead. I just do the Latin lesson at the same time they do it.
  11. And I would totally eat those mallowcreme pumpkins.
  12. Well, we aren't dead yet. I'll tell you though, I feel like I'm up to my ears in Latin right now, and if somebody doesn't give me a bucket to bail, I'm gonna choke. There's just so much to remember when you are learning it! However, every time I get to this point, typically I find a way to compartmentalize the information and I can catch a breath. We are in 2nd Form and have six lessons or so left (passive voice). We will finish it over the summer and move to 3rd Form. We take about 1.5 years to complete a Form. I see no point in rushing Latin or pushing through tears. That way madness lies.
  13. I am back and beautified. Hair day. Vomit in the sink: :cursing: :ack2: Didn't ruin my appetite for pizza and ice cream. Got another date with Han Solo. Welcome to all new weird people cause I need all the friends I can get. :biggrinjester:
  14. Housewarming party?! :scared: Better you than me! I'm waiting for additional reading to be finished, so I'm reading through the MP catalog. I usually enjoy the articles (especially because I don't always agree with them), then I drool over the pages of curriculum that I would need to seriously butter up to make it tasty, select my usual Latin, and one or two additional things that I would like to play with, and come to my senses, and then order my usual Latin. This time it's Greek. I've got enough on my plate with Latin and French, yo. I don't even need to be considering Greek. But it's shiny!
  15. It comes with snakes, poison ivy, and at least three species of ticks. And at this time of year, horse flies. You got to have something to balance the great rocks for dam building, the crawdads, the darters and the placid little water striders and all that peace and tranquility of running water. :D
  16. I love living in my house. It is Introvert Nirvana, and I appreciate it so much!
  17. It's quiet in my house. The boys are down at the creek to build dams and irritate the rainbow darters and crawdads that live there. They will be back in a while, covered in mud and hungry as hounds, but for now, I'm soaking in the solitude.
  18. :grouphug: Dawn. I do hope that you will be able to get help soon. And hugs to Lynn, too. :grouphug:
  19. "Mom, what did you think of the first chapter of Return of the Urchin Devils?" "I don't remember." "I read it to you! Do you have memory problems!?" "Possibly. When did you read it to me?" "I don't remember?" "Good Lord, it's catching." Back to my regularly scheduled cup of tea.
  20. Moving right along this week. Today's schedule: French-Unite 14, workbook Latin-Unit 4 Review, workbook Math-CLE lesson 9, 1 page Key to Decimals Writing-free writing (the boys are actually reading their stories to me this week, since both finished their self-assigned projects) Grammar-a lesson in Harvey's History-OUP Voyages-Cp 4 on the Printing Press, questions, Additional Reading in Columbus and Sons Science- Explorer, Cp 4, sec 3, The Lives of Stars, questions, Additional Reading in Planet Guides-Saturn Literature-Robin Hood, Canterbury Tales My schedule: French, Latin, Geometry, Writing, Hair. No housekeeping today since hair just takes too long. Pizza and Movie night-Return of the Jedi.
  21. I've been busy this morning, making sure that we will finish everything I want to have finished in time for summer break. This is the last week coming up for us, then three weeks of summer fun as planned before taking on summer term. I'll do my sorting, filing and binning the first week of summer break.
  22. Well, that's more than I wanted to know about mallards this morning, but it makes sense.
  23. I just got done authing another 2,000 words or so. I'm kind of proud of my protagonist tonight. He stepped it up a notch, and took on more than I thought he would. Good man.
  24. Bunches of squealing going on over here on account of extreme kitteh cuteness.
