  1. Just so I understand properly. He used your reference list, which includes the textbook & three journal articles. His project actually DID reference the textbook, and also referenced two other sources. He did not list those two other sources in his project references, but instead stuck with his C&P of *your* references, where the only item applicable was the textbook? So he left off two references that should actually have been noted, but kept three that were of no consequence?
  2. Not to open up Pandora's box or start an argument (I agree with your post!), but I think there's a point of discussion here, and possibly something that may be useful for the OP when the teen inevitably starts ranting about how unfair it all is... why shouldn't it matter? Discrimination based on skin colour, class, other factors over which prospective employees have no control, etc, would be wrong. But discrimination based on a person's choice to deliberately appear off-putting? SHOULDN'T that matter? I mean, if someone deliberately does something that is designed to set themselves apart from everyone else as different (and rebellious/intimidating/shocking), don't they WANT to be treated differently than everyone else? I think a person's choices with regard to how they present themselves should matter, from their professional demeanor to what they include on their resume to how they choose to dress. Being discriminate as an employer (and employee, and person!) is a good thing, isn't it? If we're not to judge potential employees based on the entirety of the information they give us about themselves, then how are we to navigate the hiring process? Why have interviews at all if personality and character should have no bearing on it? If a person with full knowledge of what he or she is doing chooses to present themselves as rebellious or not caring what others think about, should I as an employer not believe what they are telling me? Am I expected to assume that a person who choose to present themselves as rebellious against authority or social norms will respect my authority in the workplace and work well with others in our business? Should I believe that the person who purposefully projects the image they don't give crap what anyone thinks will make an understanding, tolerant, and collaborative liaison for our company when there are issues with customer or suppliers? Basically, why SHOULDN'T someone's choices about how they present themselves affect the hiring process? It's part of the package you are presenting about what you have to offer as an employee. As an employer, this falls under the heading of, "when someone tells you who they are, believe them."
  3. Let's have a "People who actually do interviews and hire other people" special interest group then. Present! CFO of a small business here. A small business that, uh, wouldn't hire a vampire.
  4. With the info in your update... yes, I would do it. Your current location isn't great, it's just familiar. Realistically, you don't have much to lose in your current location. And if you hate it after giving it a try loving at the new place for a year or two, you can always move (without even taking a financial hit). There doesn't really seem to be a downside.
  5. It would absolutely affect employability. I'm also okay with the person in question thinking we're mean ;) provided they realize the real world in which they will be looking for employment is just as mean, probably more so.
  6. Loving this thread! Bought an Instant Pot on amazon the other week and I'm hoping it arrives this week. I can't wait to try out these recipes!
  7. We're there from the 2nd to the 17th. The only days we have definite plans for are the 3rd and 7th at Disney, so we're in the same boat; everything is still so up in the air that it's hard to plan anything!
  8. I told DH about this. He was, at first, thrilled. His exact words were, "WOOHOO!" Then I pointed out that he was not, in fact, involved in any of this screen-steaming. Now he looks slightly concerned. ;) We're all just an overgrown bunch of teenagers, the second someone says "Don't look here!" we're like WHAT DID YOU SAY I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE SOUND OF LOOKING OVER HERE!
  9. Following the rabbit trail and adding my "helpful hint" to the pile-on; I add a generous splash of vinegar to the water when I boil my eggs. It makes them SO much easier to peel, no more chunks of egg stuck to the shell.
  10. Fell for a fake news story and posted it, because as I age I'm rapidly becoming more and more like everyone's obnoxious aunt on facebook. ;) Thanks for helping me fix the title so no one else fell for it!
  11. As are we! I'll just keep an eye out for all the other unsocialized homeschoolers. ;)
  12. We also have the Hemnes day bed; I love it, because there are drawers under it that allow it to be not only a good relaxing area for the kids, but useful storage for the 05% of the time it's not being used a spare bed. That being said, you can't have a thick mattress on it since you usually have to double stack the mattresses when it's in couch/twin mode. A Murphy bed would likely be more comfortable.
  13. We're doing almost the exact same thing, though we only have about 2 1/2 hours there. We're stopping at Forsyth Park to give the kids some time & space to run around and stretch their legs before getting back into the van for hours, lol, and then heading over to the Lady & Sons (Paula Deen's restaurant) for lunch and maybe a quick walk over for the kids to splash in the fountains at Ellis Square before we do more driving. I'm not a huge fan of Paula Deen... okay, I'm not a fan at all, lol, but it feels like the authentic "Southern comfort food" experience to go to her restaurant while we're in Georgia.
  14. I know you've already got yours in the oven, but if it helps I actually do this on purpose to make more fudgy brownies from a box mix. Leave out an egg and instead put in a big heaping spoonful of Nutella or peanut butter.
  15. If I recall correctly, he has a diagnosis (was it bipolar schizophrenia?) but frequently goes off his meds. Feel free to correct me on that, Scarlett! So sorry to hear that it's getting worse even as his wife goes through treatment. :( I guess with everything else feeling like it's spiraling out of control, it's natural for him to reach out for control in some other way... but that's a scary prospect given his suspicions about people and places in his area. :/
  16. As far as profitability for the pharmaceutical company goes... just saw this under the headline "Karma's a b!&%#". http://bients.com/epipen-makers-stock-value-drops-nearly-3-billion-5-days-investors-panic/
  17. Glad that it worked out well tonight, DS' request aside. Are there any veggies that he seems to like that you can keep readily available for snacking when he's hungry? And I probably shouldn't be reading this thread late at night, now I want meatloaf. ;)
  18. Oh, I absolutely agree! I'm sure there are less people insured than he would hope, and even less than that who have coverage for this particular thing with a decent co-pay. I find myself automatically railing against any point Shkreli makes in any kind of argument, regardless of how much merit his opinion might have (in this case, unsurprisingly, it has very little). The man is horrid.
  19. I heard Martin Shkreli came out defending them and calling them the good guys, because most Americans are insured anyway so what does it matter? That pretty much sealed my opinion, lol. Dr Evil may not be benefiting his cause the way he thinks...
  20. Just a bit of advice from my perspective that was given to me at the start of my weight-loss journey by four separate professionals (family doctor, dietician, nutritionist, and endocronologist); "if you eat too much it doesn't matter how healthy it is" really isn't true for someone who's seriously overweight. Someone who is significantly overweight isn't going to have problems losing weight because they ate too many vegetables. But vegetables may be the ONLY thing that can be considered "healthy" for people who are essentially detoxing from a lot of food addictions. As far as a diet plan was considered, veggies (aside from carrots) were a "free" food. Being allowed to eat literally as much as I wanted to, as long as it was vegetables, made a HUGE difference when I first began losing weight. If I'd had to feel hungry, I wouldn't have made it. But knowing that if I wanted to, I could eat the peppers or cucumbers in the fridge and it would be good for me AND leave me feeling full was invaluable. One step at a time. If you need to limit portions on the unhealthy stuff, do. But if you're going to try to limit portions on EVERYTHING and leave a seriously overweight person feeling hungry all the time because you think it's good for them, you're setting them up not only to fail but to become bitter about it.
  21. In my ideal world, are all other variables equal? ie, am I homeschooling? If I had unlimited time I'd love to make most of my own meals. But if I'm still homeschooling I's prefer someone else making most of them so I can grab a nap while they cook for me. ;)
  22. Oooh thanks for the heads-up on this! We had ordered tickets a few weeks back, and I've just exchanged them for the 2 days free. :)
  23. Well, I'm nursing right now and don't like to be, uh, unnecessarily hindered, so... my reaction would probably depend on if I were wearing a bra or not. Assuming I was taking out of the house to another location (aka wearing appropriate clothing) and not that people just showed up at my house when I'm all "casual", I'd probably feel caught off-guard and a little uncomfortable, but act happy and slowly warm up to things, then crawl into a caccoon at the end of the night and not emerge for a week. If I had been caught at home in a more casual setting, then, uh... same thing but with lots of awkward attempts at covering up my boobs and sneaking off asap to grab a bra? lol How weird am I that my thought is, "Depends. Am I wearing a bra?" Like... that probably shouldn't really be a question for a responsible adult, right? Ah well. #ProudIrresponsibleAdult I can understand not liking a surprise party and feeling really uncomfortable, or even angry. Unless the party was intentionally designed to be hurtful by someone who had a history of deliberately doing abusive things, a person should act civil about it. You don't have to love everything that everyone does for you, but an adult should recognize good intentions even if they miss the mark.
  24. Except that sometimes it is how it works. How many "stars" have done reckless, even illegal thigns in other countries and still get the endorsement, the reality show, the starring role? Thankfully in this case, he did lose his endorsements. It's nice to see some consequences for a privileged person, but it doesn't always work that way. There's no need to get disdainful towards those of us who doubted it would happen.
