  1. I have awesome half sheet pans from King arthur flour but they don't have a non-stick surface. I don't care for those as they never last. I bought two silicone baking mats to use with them and voila! no sticking but don't have to deal with non-stick coatings.
  2. Make sure you're following any rules that would apply for your state or cover school etc. I know not everyone has a cover school or lives in a state that has lots of rules, but I thought it was worth mentioning. I recently moved to TN where I'm under a cover school and they require all high school courses to have a letter grade, Pass/Fail grades are not accepted for high school.
  3. not far. I make a pound of taco meat every Tuesday (because it's always Taco Tuesday) We do use tortillas, and only my dh, myself and our oldest son eat. Once the Dh and 15 year old son get done, I'm lucky to get one taco. When I make a pot roast for the 5 of us it has to be at least 3lbs or there are no leftovers. When I make pasta I use a 1lb box for the 5 of us and we're lucky to have enough for DH to have a small portion for lunch the next day. I know most would say my issue is the teen boy and his now teen sister who can eat more than him and is thin as a rail, but it's really the 9 year old who can out eat both of them combined if it's something he likes. No idea where the kid puts it as he's not even 4ft tall and only weighs about 50lbs.
  4. No idea what my kids will do for him, they may ask to go shopping or they may make something. I have purchased him a Firefly ship schematic t-shirt and am knitting him a pair of socks.
  5. the only issue with KAs is the if you have one that's 15+ years old it's worth keeping, but the newer ones don't have all have the metal gears that those base models from a couple decades ago have. The new ones aren't made like the old ones. My bosch has a blender attachment. If I had gotten it before the vitamix it would be more than sufficient for the stuff I like to blend.
  6. I have a cuisinart essentials stainless steel set and love it. I do have 1 teflon pan but that's only used for eggs. ETA: forgot to say I have had this set for about 6 years now and never regretted it. It was a 10 piece set and was about $130 I have a vitamix and it's great, but I don't use it as much as many people here do. I got it with a 40% off coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond, so I can't help on how old is too old. I have owned both a KA artisan, Pro 5 and 2 different Bosch Universal mixers. If you plan to make bread more than one loaf at a time and more than maybe twice a week I'd stay away from the Artisan for sure. I would say if you're planning to make bread or bread doughs at all save up and get a Bosch, but if you must go Kitchen aid then go Pro 6. I still have my artisan, but it sits on top of my kitchen cabinets and almost never gets used. I keep it because it's a pretty apple green color and looks nice as a decoration.
  7. I used to sell pampered chef. I have washed many a stoneware pan with dish soap, but don't let it sit in soapy water to soak, if soaked long enough they will take in some of that and things will taste like soap the next time you use it. Don't ask me how I know. *cough cough, husband soaked my pan overnight in dawn, cough cough*
  8. Brian is amazing. I no longer use McRuffy, but he's helped me out of a similar bind many a time. They really do have great customer service.
  9. We were trying Bookshark 5 this year and it was a bust. We're reading the books randomly and ditched the program otherwise. The Worldbook and EHE pages were so stinking boring.
  10. 4 of us share an apple id for purchases, we each have our own for iMessage. Family sharing has made it easier to not have to have just one, but before that, I wasn't going to have to repurchase all these apps just because turning off my phone number was something I had to do. I don't text anything I don't want my husband to see.
  11. I think the "bathroom on the right" in place of Bad moon on the rise is a pretty common mishearing. My brother always heard "Burn Again" instead of Bernadette.
  12. We have grilled cheese every monday night. We're pretty boring though. Just bread buttered on the outside with Kraft Deli Deluxe slices (must use 2 per sandwich) My eldest like 2 slices of clausen pickles in the middle with the cheese. DH likes bacon. All of us dip them in ketchup though.
  13. We're fly by the seat of our pants laundry folks. My kids laundry is all washed separately, the only people's clothes ever mixed together in a load are dh and my clothes. My older two kids do their laundry whenever they feel the need and have since they were about 9 and 11. My youngest is still too short to reach in the washer and top load dryer, so I do his when ever he brings his full hamper to me. The laundry of my dh and I get's done whenever one of us grabs a load and puts it in. I also don't wash sheets on any set schedule, it's totally random, and could be as often as weekly and as few and far between as monthly.
  14. I have thought of being super mean mom and moving the Angel around like the Elf on the Shelf. LOL
  15. I get this song stuck in my head every time I drive home from town. I live just north of Millington, TN and one town North of me is the Hometown of Isaac Hayes, and there is a sign stating so, that I see every time I'm coming home from Millington.
  16. I have both a Bosch Universal, a Kitchen aid Artisan, and a vitamix. I have been in the Bosch vs. Kitchen aid dilemma for a while. I went back and forth, Actually bought and sold the Bosch 3 times. I finally realized that the Bosch is just superior, if you're going to make bread at all the Bosch is so much better at it. I even had a Kitchen aid Pro model and the bread dough just never was a good as the bread dough the Bosch makes up. With the Bosch I can literally just dump the stuff in turn it on and walk away for 6 minutes and come back to perfectly kneaded dough. The Bosch blender attachment is decent, and I would rather have a Bosch with it than just the KA and a Vitamix. I did that and it as ok, but I'd give up a little in the blender area to get a better mixer. I'm not sure what is meant by "you don't need to stir in the middle of a cycle" in the post above. I don't have to stir anything in my Vitamix. I turn it on low, ramp up the dial to 10 flip it to high and boom perfectly pureed whatever I'm making. ETA: we're a family of 5. I make and freeze bread/pizza crust dough 1-2 time a week, on top of the usual cookies, muffins, etc.
  17. I guess it's not really a group, but a thread where we've been listing what we're working on. Here's a link http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/531354-knitters-what-are-you-working-on/ I bought it from www.thinkgeek.com. I saw some instructionals on Pinterest about how to make one from a barbie, but I had so many other things I was making I didn't have time to make the angel.
  18. This scarf is made of icky red heart because it's just going on the tree. I have KnitPicks Wool of the Andes that I plan to use to make a full size one some day.
  19. I do not make gravy from scratch. Why would I do that... because I deep fry it. There are no pan drippings to be had. I don't think gravy made from the peanut oil I cook the bird in would be all that tasty. We only use the breast because nobody here eats the dark meat, they think it's gross.
  20. Growing up it was always Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas ham. My husband had a bad experience on ship and no longer eats ham, so we have Thanksgiving turkey and Roast Beef (or as my Dr. Seuss loving kids say Roast Beast) for Christmas
  21. I finished the mini Doctor Who scarf. It's not very long, but will work to drape on the tree.
  22. The red socks were just a Toe up stockinette stitch sock that I made up myself. I follow the "recipe" from Knit Freedoms Toe up sock pattern. I figure out stitches around by measuring the foot and then multiplying by stitches per inch, then I subtract 10-15% depending on how snug I want them to fit. I usually cast on 12-20 stitches depending on who I'm making the socks for. I use the Fleegle heel for them. I'd be happy to answer any questions about how I do it. Just PM me.
  23. I bought a Weeping Angel Tree Topper, am making fake 3D glasses, have printouts to make a pandorica box. I crocheted this little adipose the other day and am going to make a few creepy snowmen out of styrofoam balls. I have a tardis, cyberman head, and dalek glass ornament. I'm sure my kids will help me come up with other items too.
  24. I recently finished this pair of socks for my 9 year old. Now I'm working on a bunch of mini Doctor Who scarves that I'm going to use on our tree for garland.
