  1. Where is the best place to buy singapore?
  2. Both of my boys break down when I ask them to even write one sentence by sound out words. I have to spell everyword and hold hands through the entire process. It's so frustrating for me that we don't even mess with writing now. Next year they will be in 1st and 2/3rd. My older son is behind and struggles with reading still so I will be combing them in almost everything. What kind of program can you recomend that would help build up their writing so it wasn't a crying fest when it was time to write even a simple sentence?
  3. So my K son completed K12 math this year and I really didn't like it at all. He's pretty good at doing mental addition/subtraction. He also is great at word problems. I am not sure what math to continue on with. I had thought about Right Start level B, Horizons, or Singapore. He would rather get through the math and be done so I'm not sure if RS will be too long? I want him to have a strong math basis so I'm not sure Horizons will be too easy. Thoughts? Thanks!
  4. I don't buy into the full Waldorf method either. It is way too complicated and I feel sometimes it can take away in some areas. I think that exploration with art is wonderful, but at some point formal lessons should begin. I love Drawing with children. I feel it has the right way to "teach" art. We have a large amount of art materials on hand. I also love pinterest for ideas on what to do. I have a few blogs I love, as well as Usborne books, Kistler drawing school, and a full pinterest board with pictures for the kids to look at and draw from. Mostly things found in nature.
  5. Yes, she loves coloring and doing worksheets. Thanks everyone, I was hoping it would be par on with what she needs. I can't keep ignoring and her and giving her half of what she wants. We tried Carol's afordable and it was great, but you almost need to start at the first of the year to stay on schedual with everything and if I was behind it messed up seasonally what we were working on.
  6. My friend teaches 4/5 and says she has quite a few 4 year olds and she loves how eager they are to learn. Most of it is to music so she says they pick up quickly.
  7. Thanks! She knows a lot of the letters, just not every single one :) Mostly from picking them up, lol. She has to do school the whole time the boys do and answers many of the questions and is very bright. She is currently teaching herself addition and subtraction on her own to keep up. I want it to be fun and have found tons of ideas on pinterest. My son that is in K this year would have been bored with it, so I'm glad I decided not to do it with him.
  8. This would make a fabulous sticky if we could get enough resources! :)
  9. If you have used this how did it go? My daughter will be 5 at the end of July. We have worked on stuff and she participates with the older brothers, but we haven't pushed letters, etc. She has picked up on a lot, but doesn't have the letters down. She can cout pretty high, colors, etc. We would not have placed her in K if she was going to school because of age and we want something gentle this year. She is begging for school and works on the Rod and Staff preschool books and has a pretty good attention span. I don't want to push her too much, just let her work on what she wants and know the basics by the end of next school year. I was actually thinking of starting her next month because I'm running out of stuff for her to do, I need something planned for me. Do you think MFW K would be a good fit? She loves crafty stuff and being outdoors. I can always slow the program down if it startst to move to fast. So I guess If you have used it when does it usually pick up and thoughts on starting with an older 4 year old?
  10. Do you have that book? I ask because my friend had to drop VT with her daughter (another state) because of how much it cost and was thinking of getting the book. Also, what is the benefit of OT and VT? My youngest is in OT right now and it seems like a lot of fine motor skills and speech work (she is 2.5 yrs old). I wondered what OT was like for 7 year olds? His fine motor skills are still lacking for his age.
  11. We follow a diet similar to Paleo. We do have limited amounts of cheese though when I will cook a meal. My son was eating bread by the loaf in a few days! He has gotten much better eliminating a lot of foods and food dyes. He is way more calm and able to control himself. The cleancher was after we detoxed from everything he came over and told me how he felt so much better and how he felt like he was in control of his body, before he couldn't stop himself. We had a play date the other day and the other kids were so wild that my son (that used to be the same way), didn't even care to play with them. It can make a big difference, but it is a HUGE commitment. That is worth all the trouble. We love smoothies. We don't do dairy in them and add greens. Helps them a lot. We avoid meds and do fish oil and Young Living essential oils. He loves peace and calming oil :) We do not do soy or give soy to our animals. It is a modified food that isn't even a whole food. We love coconut milk. We also cut out a lot of white potatoes and the kids love sweet potatoes. Best of luck!!
  12. Thanks :) I know you have a lot of experience in this area so I was hoping you'd chime in. I'm getting it at a discounted rate of $80 a week and she is the only one within three hours one way :( I have done research and have talked to people that have used her so I don't have a bad feeling about paying half up front because we probably would't do well with paying by week because DH's income is varried depending on the weather so paying a large chunk at a time is a better option. Within our area I can see many people not paying consistently. And on top of that she has had a lot of trouble with insurance companies not paying, patient not paying, and being burned. So I do feel comfortable or in no way would we move foreward. That sounds like a good plan, he has an ipod and we already do a lot of audio books for free on it, our library selection is very low on the more rice literature selections and I've already gone through all of them. He's listened to so many he's almost out of children's book options so I know I will have to do some reading. I will have to buy WRTR because our library doesn't carry it.
  13. Thanks, I am going to do this. I was thinking phonic and math games. Not worksheets. I worry with my younger son getting upset because he will still need to do those things. But, in K he already goes into his room and reads for fun.
  14. Thanks! Yes, it was worth the money even for the results. I just need to figure out what to do for school now...
  15. The only thing she suggested buying was a certain brand of fish oil. She sells it in office, but gave me the name of two local places to price first before buying from her. I didn't feel like she was trying to sell me on a lot of other things. Her buisness alone speaks volumes for what she has done. I have never heard a bad report back from her and she did the vision test for my younger son and found nothing. However, did say it wouldn't hurt to do home exercises together, but he didn't need it :) Word of mouth is VERY important. Try to find other people that have used these docotors. IT is a lot of money!
  16. DH and I just went through testing with my son. It was pricey. The inital consultation to see if it was worth our time to do the full eval was free. The full evaluation was $500. The write up was spot on with what I've seen at home. The plan was a breathe of fresh air. It gave me hope, I cried, and now we are ready to move foreward. We get take home materials and 36 weeks of therapy. Each session is $160, weekly. It very expensive. But, if my son can see better and even make some improvement in school it will be worth every single penny. The tests used with my son's FCOVD were: Eye Health Exam Visual Acuity- distance and near Refraction Oculomotor eval Developmental eye movement test Eval of accommodative ability evaluation of binocular sensory- motor fusion Randot Stereopsis Eval (for depth perception) Wold Sentence Copy test Jordan Left/right reversal test Test of visual-perceptual skills Beery Developmental test of visual-motor integration Monroe III Visual memory test
  17. So my son will start vision therapy soon as soon as we can get the first half. Gulp. He really really needs it and is struggling right now. I was wondering how much school and what kind of schedual/curriculum you used with your child when they began therapy? I'm afraid I have been doing too much and making it even harder on him and making him shut down. I don't want him to hate school and he is sooo close to just breaking down and giving up :( He should be in 2nd and is doing 1st again with a little brother now ahead of him (K student). It is hard on him, I get it. He is such an awesome audiotory learner and loves auido books so I plan on doing even more of those and read alouds. We are doing 1st grade phonics for the 2nd time so I'm not even sure if phonics will be worth doing again next year? He hates math so I'm not even sure what to do. We have completed RS level A, MUS primer and Alpha, and some of Horizons 1st. He still doesn't have his addition/sub facts down. Even doing outloud. We've used manipulatives, MUS blocks, number lines, etc. NOTHING has made it easy to do. I'm ready to just take a break from math for the year, is that a bad idea?? I have teaching textbooks 3rd grade as a last ditch math program. I'm tired of spending money on things that don't work. We are "doing" K12, but dropping it because it is way too much for him right now :( He loves science and history I figure is fine. He enjoys art. Would it be bad at this point to just focus on all the fun stuff with him, keep adding rich adio books/read alouds, and the vision therapy exercises? I'm also thinking FLL because it is outloud. I would be droping formal phonics, spelling, writing, and formal math. Also what are your thoughts on copywork? Not worth the struggle for now? I feel so bad and this is SO hard :(
  18. When I click on manage I am unable to find anything that tells how to add someone :(
  19. Can you do a giftcard? I would say microscope and slide set for sure! Leaf press, nature journals, Science books Quality art supplies and craft supplies I pad and apps ( I would do one to share) The Classical Kids CD sets. I'd then do Ipod touch for each (rather than Ipad for each) Some Jim Weiss CD's Fun math Manipulatives Right Start Math games set (book and cards) Board games/thinking games- Timberdoodle is a GREAT place to get ideas!! I would go ahead and Buy Institute for Excellence in Writing I would get SOTW and buy the history books to go with each level. I would do a museum membership as well The paint dabbers that can be refilled with paint are a hit with my younger kids Stamp sets and bead sets Also another thought would be a sewing machine. I know a lot of moms have one to teach daughters to sew and if you didn't have one, now may be the time :) And as far as a splurg on building toys, mine love Keva blocks and legos. I would go that route. Also Wedgit sets are a hit. Those would be high on my list as well. Rush hour type games are good thinking games. I'm sure this is stressful :( How many years do you need all this to last? That may help as far as in the future... I think some things would be nice for mulitlevel uses. And I wanted to say I have kids similar in age as yours :)
  20. I did pretty well. I did sub out a few things, but used the list to buy for the month and had everything on hand :)
  21. I clean certain things daily and I rotate out certain things each day. Plus each week I hit a more deep cleaning area. However, I never make beds, lol. Daily I will make sure all dishes are always done right away and clean around sink, all appliances cleaned, counter and table cleaned, and I sweep the kitchen/dining room in the morning and at night. I do laundry daily, but put it away once a week (oops). I vacuum daily, clean all clutter up in main living area. We also have all our farm animals to take care of and keep clean (chicken coop, chick bedding in garage, barn, and pigs (also have a farrowing area to clean now too). Each week I take a day to clean windows, clean cabinets, and dust. I clean bathrooms twice a week and mop twice a week. I will change bedding weekly and wash. I take a day to clean the mud room and reorganize. We clean the garage monthly and reorganize usually at that time to find things. I clean out a clutter area weekly (like bookshelves, closets, kitchen cabinets, and drawers) I take time to make it look nice and get rid of things. I have a donate area that I keep in the garage and try to not keep to much "stuff". My biggest downfall is not putting laundry away right away and keeping kids rooms clean. I also clean weekly for my kids tumble facility. I vacuum the mats, clean all touchy surfaces to disinfect, mop every other week, deep clean bathrooms, clean all the mirrors, and clean up the kitchen area. It usually takes me a devoted 2.5-3 hours to get it all done and she has her employees do small things each day and deep cleans twice a year on the breaks.
  22. I don't have dates, but the only thing we have spent money on this month has been at the grocery store (no eating out), on gas and that was cut a LOT, two rolls of paper towels, and electricity, rent, and two ring pops as a treat for the girls at my daughters cheer competition. I''ve also listed a lot of my daughters cloth diapers and wool and put that money in our bank account. So we are on the plus side if you take out that we haven't spent any money on anything not needed...
  23. Another thought would be to use two different math curriculums and then you'd be switching it up. Or maybe buy the RightStart Math games and you could play those. I just am not sure I would be willing to do math only two times a week this early in his education :)
  24. Oh and popcorn sales when he is a boy scout will be different. Cub scouts only earn a portion of the sales, while boy scouts keep all of it. I also found out that the boy scouts are not required to turn in military donations, or that is how it was worded to me when we went to turn in donations. I was very put off by that whole situation and we decided as a pack next year to not promote military donation, but just say it is a pack donation because they didn't even care if we turned it in or not!! :(
  25. No money can be transfered. We encourage our boys that have money left to make a purchase to go towards earning a belt loop, uniform, camping gear, etc. so we can reimburse them. Last year we took out all of our money after we bought our computer. Computer is a belt loop so we were able to turn in our reciept and use that money. Not ever pack allows this. We sell a lot of popcorn (We only sold $30,000 this year) and have 30 boys selling. To encourage them to sell and do well we give them 30% commision on what they have earned as long as we stay above the 30,000 amount. This year we just made it after a change of kernals. I think rewarding the boys helps them sell more. But, I do agree to say you won't sell anything at all next year just because the money will not transfer is a put off. That is encouraging the entitlement attitude that if something does not benfit me I can just not do it :( It's like saying part of your taxes go towards a program you dont' support so you are just going to quite your job.
