  1. yep no color he will be bored :( I also have all 4 of the early learner set & he is not ready for them yet.
  2. Are the rod and staff books colorful, I thought I heard they were kinda dull band boring... I had thought about them too, but after what I heard I am kinda hesitant...
  3. I have before FIAR OTW to do with my boys. The younger one just turned 3 today and the older one is almost 5. I figured we could go ahead and start with the before and the older one can work on sounding out words as part of his activites and then I can make the activites for each one depending on ages, but then I'm not driving myself crazy doing 2 different things.
  4. Has any ever used the nursery program? My son turned 3 today and I want to start him on something and he wants workbooks like his older brother :) Are they worth it, they don't seem too expensive... I am going to start letting him make lapbooks and things with us and sit in on stuff, but I thought when older brother was working on something he couldn't do then maybe I could have something that is just for him. The Abeka seems to be the best thing I've found so far... but I'm open to suggestions of coures ;)
  5. Well let's just say not a fan at all- was going into elementary education and this is one of the main reasons I will not be teaching in a PS anytime soon ;)
  6. Thanks! I love it :) Although not everyone appreciates the amount of work that goes into handknits and will go on about prices. My friend Amy and I work together. She knits and hand dyes yarn as well. www.hyenacart.com/alligatorknits. ALthough we don't have much up right now as we are getting caught up and she's releasing a new pattern I am getting ready to help test ;)
  7. I wasn't even ready for Little Woman my senior year of HS, I think now that I'm an adult I would enjoy it, but I think it is a matter of where you are in your life when you read it :) I think this is true for all books ;)
  8. Do you usually have her write something after reading it? Maybe have her, even at this point, write down what she doesn't like about the book, what she doesn't understand, and the something she is enjoying about it. I had a teacher do this with us and it actually helped. He knew where we were struggling and could help us get through the book :)
  9. Did anyone mention The Yearling? I didn't read it until I was in HS and it one of my favorite books :001_smile:
  10. I am a part time WAHM. I knit for others as a supplement :) So far I have been able to fund all of the HS materials I would like- I still have a list, but plan on using all my money from knitting and selling odds and ends, rather than it coming out of DH's paycheck. I work as needed. I know once I have more than one in school I will have to change this, but for now it works!
  11. What reading level is he at? I can make some suggestions, but I'm not sure what level he is at ;)
  12. If it is a good book I don't want to put it down so yes my kids get ignored, so I have to be careful. However, I still find time to read. It helps I am a fast reader. An average size book I can read in the amount of time a normal person watches TV every night. I also get asked all the time how I get so much knitting done. It is frustrating b/c it is like they imply that I don't take care of my kids, when I do. Knitting/books are portable. If DH is driving I can do either of them. I can put a book mark/ put down my knitting and take care of my kids if something happens just the same as someone that is watching TV. We also have a huge garden and can a lot, people ask about it, but it is something that the kids help with and love. I guess it is all where your priorities lay and making time for those things you enjoy. I would rather enjoy these things than other things that can take away time :)
  13. We love Hooters wings and shrimp, and the chocolate cake. We go in and order it for carry out and take it home :) I've taken the boys in when they were babies to eat. They were all BF so they looked around like it was an all you can eat buffet- too young to know (under a year). But at that age I would be upset too :(
  14. How much is the film for it? And yes, I do want something that will do larger pages like that one :)
  15. A few tips from me as well :) Do not fertilize your tomatoes until after they have buds, otherwise they use all the fertilizer making more plant material and never any tomatos. Do you have a water softner? If so and you add salt to it when you water your plants you can kill some of them b/c of the salt content of the water. If you plant tomatoes out in the yard make sure you do not have your tomatoes in the drip line areas of any walnut trees or it will kill them. Most coops will test your soil for a small fee, then you can look up what you need online. And yes, too small of a pot will restrict root growth. Also potting soil isn't the best for growing vegetables. I had a few other things, but can not remember them right now. On broccholi, it is difficult to grow, we have never had trouble, but our neighbor down the road has a very difficult time. Make sure it is in full sun. and let the inside get big, but not go to seed. You have to clean worms out of it usually, but they are easy to spot :) Gardening is fun, but takes a lot of work. Also remember certain vegis need cross pollination in order to grow. I also 2nd the calcium, make sure you have enough for tomatoes.
  16. I have read the hateful comments and it is so wrong. Even if you do not agree with them, that is a child's life. No baby deserves to have hateful things said about him or her :( They have been in my thoughts as well.
  17. So what is the best? I don't want something overkill or super expensive, however I want it to last. I also don't want a cheap one where the refills cost more than the machine KWIM? I hate when that happens :glare: So what would you recomend? I'd like it to be big enough to do lapbooks as well and full sheets of paper :)
  18. Yep and usually the baby girl is the one that hurts everyone. Pillow fights seem to be the choice of battle most of the time
  19. Planning for K & preschool Looks like MFW Plan on adding in HWOTs, ETC?, and Rightstart Math For the preschool HWOT's, Before FIAR, and math workbooks
  20. So before he is actually reading I could go ahead and start another language he'd like to learn? Which programs are best for K ages? I want the Latin to help w/ grammar
  21. I know that when my DC are old enough they will start Latin. How do you know when they are ready? Also is it wise to go ahead and start learning it on your own before teaching it? What would you advise as far as curriculum for a mama to learn before teaching it to her DC's? Thanks! Oh and I still have a while, I was just thinking maybe I should be familiar w/ it before ;)
  22. Have you called and asked if they would barter anything? I know we do music classes and between payments for the remainder she is willing to have DH and I do extra work. Totally worth it. You can always ask if they need help painting, cleaning, etc. I'm sure everyone that owns a buisness like this needs some extra hands and would love to trade it out in class rather than having to hiring someone else :) I am going to do DD in a gymnastics class and plan on asking the woman that runs it if she would let me do some deep cleaning each time in exchange for classes, the worst they can say is no!
  23. All unused yarn goes in totes, I have a tote for my scraps, and I usually only have one WIP at a time. I use a yarn pod and then a small makeup case for some of my odds and ends that slips in my purse nice and flat.
  24. Subbing in the school your DC would go to is a great way to get an insiders view :) I have subbed at the school my DC would go to, I have also done field experiences for teaching. I know all the teachers, the principal, and how the school is ran. I've also had firsthand views of lesson planning, books used, etc. This has helped make my decision easier. Many of the teachers I would have allowed my DC to go to retired last year so that made the choice even easier. My main reason lies in the fact that at our school the principal is one of the worst I have ever meet and all the teachers I did like that retired hated her as well :( If you are on the sub list, have a background check, and would be registering kids in that school that is odd... You would have more access to student information by going into the classroom as a sub
  25. Thanks, oh wish I could go look through the MFW stuff! I've only seen the 3rd grade/level from a friend and love it for that age. I also hope for them to come to the HS convention in Feb.
