  1. I'm not sure how to figure out the differnce. I realize they both teach US measurements, etc. However, why one is better I'm still confused  I've searched and am trying to figure out what to order. Not only what, but where is the best place to buy it online? I was planning on 1A/1B and few other practice books to go along with it... Thanks!
  2. I couldn't understand the point of Singapore Early for K. My son flew through it without trouble, yet still struggles in math. IMO money better spent on a cheap workbooks for early math. Readingeggs.com was a letdown because my boys could work the system and move on to levels way beyond what they could really read. OPGTR- too many memory things, the boys did better with just learning the letter. Couldn't get past the first few lessons to make it work. SL LA K- what a let down for a LA program/phonics program
  3. Ok what is WRTR?? I'm racking my brain and it must be one of the few I'm unfamilar with
  4. If the kids ask for something I know we won't be able to get I tell them no and that I already told Santa no as well so to move onto something else. Makes it easy right then.
  5. Sugar fuels cravings so you will eat less over time. However I would invest in high Quality meats. If nothing else start searching local farmers. Also you have to be careful with eggs because they aren't All created equal as well. Load up on leafy greens.
  6. It still hasn't sunk in because we cant buy any gifts. It's hard because I have all Santa believers. We are trying to make a few things and putting together a tax check vaction for the kids to open... So Christmas feels blah and depressing. But the kids have no idea. We have put up all our decorations with music, we have the Kids christmas program at church Sunday, caroling, and cookie decorating party. Wednesday is our huge baking day, gingerbread family (whole family) get together next weekend. We are doing hot coco and looking at lights tonight and I have thrown a few crafts together. I hope some of this makes up in the memory area. We've pulled out all our special Chirstmas books and have been reading. Tomorrow my daughter is going to a thing at her tumbling gym. I could skip this year and be fine
  7. What I have found is that I overcomplicate things and add too much. While one book is good, five must be great right?? I cause myself and the kids to burn out :( So maybe it isn't the curriculum itself in some areas? I'd say if the writing is too much have him circle or dictate. I'm not familiar with what you are currently using, but I let my son dictate a lot and if we do a narration I write it out. He has wonderful copywork, but pen in hand alone it becomes a blank look follwed by tears. If MM worked, go back to it! I know Right start is scripted, but heavy on parent help, teaching textbooks would be great for less writing and teacher planning, or MUS is pretty laid back. I would either drop MOH or SOTW and do basic narrations and crafts. It sounds like you are burnt out and a few months of just reading and talking out loud will be more than enough until everyone is up and going again :hugs:
  8. It would be cheaper for me to buy them because I am horrible at library deadlines...
  9. My make the sound for f unless they are looking at me for a reminder...
  10. I remember when I was in London a few of the buildings near St. Pauls Cathedral had visible signs of bomb strikes. This was 12 years ago so I'm not sure what has been torn down.
  11. We dropped a lot from last year, last year was a major fail after always being gone as well. I am dropping a Monday afternoon activity for my daughter that breaks that day up and makes it stressfull. We will be taking Friday off and doing school one day over the weekend because of a morning committment. I have something Thursday morning I am going to try to reschudal for later in the day. I don't feel like it has held us back, just made our day longer and if I don't get school done in the morning I begin to feel stressed out.
  12. We have made an advent calendar together, advent paper chain, and some holiday foods. We we do a full out baking day, decorate gingerbread houses, make a few ornaments together (I have glass bulbs). We also decorated foam trees with sticker ornaments. We always make applesauce/cinnamon ornaments to hang up. I have some more pined, but not sure how much we will actually do, lol.
  13. I was worried doing level A that my son wasn't getting much. But just the daily warm ups helped him a lot! I would love to go back, but we are stuck with MUS for the rest of the year :( I feel like he was learning more with RS.
  14. In Primer my son has wanted to do every single sheet, even if he mastered it. Usually he would sit and do them all at once. We always watch the video first and work on some lessons. My other son is in alpha and isn't as mathy and has dyslexia. Therefore one sheet is all he can do and we have so far gone through every sheet before moving on. WIth my younger son once he's in alpha I plan on letting him do 2 lesson a day and at least working through D before taking the test. I just want that extra practice :) Maybe if we had another math program I would change that. I am debating starting him in Singapore because he is more mathy :)
  15. We are starting prek because my daughter was begging for her own "school work". I don't think anything is wrong with doing it with them if they are interested! We are doing Carrol's Affordable Curriuculum. We love the Jumping Kangaroo, so much fun. It covers letters and numbers. I add in some letter sheets from confessions of a homeschooler as well as my own math manipulatives. We do sorting, pattern blocks, bear pattern cards, etc. She's getting pretty good so we don't do as many. She has the Rod and Staff preschool books and does a few pages each day. She also listens in to her brother's lessons and completes history and science with them. I can not get out of printing off sheets for her to do. Alice, I wouldn't feel bad. I know that I am doing way more with my 3rd child than I did with my two older boys. Lol. They weren't interested at all and I was always nursing or taking care of a baby :) They are doing fine because we still did stuff. I was blown away when my 2nd son started Kindergarten and already knew how to read colors, all his letters and sounds, shapes, and was already adding and subtracting on his own. Oops!! lol.
  16. I am using it just fine without one :) Both K and the 2nd grade level.
  17. Is it on CD? I will buy materials, but not pay to join a community or the connect. Way way too overpriced. I get being compensated, but wow.
  18. I would be interested too. My husband was laid off and we are scrambling right now. I sent in a resume, but staying at home for 6 years and not finishing college is really holding me back :(
  19. I am having trouble with my oldest. He is first grade as far as level. By public school dates he would have made cut off for 2nd grade. Therefore, family expects him to be 2nd grade level. But, maturity and skill wise he wouldn't have been ready for K by PS dates. He is also very tall. I put him in with kids his age for cub scouts and am on the fence about what to do for 4-H.
  20. So my oldest son is not mathy. It takes him longer to get it and his memorization of math facts is soooo slow. We are working on MUS alpha right now. I have grade one Horizons that we haven't used, but I'm not sure how it teaches. He completed Right Start A and it was slow going, but did help him. I'm not sure if we should switch back to RS, continue with MUS (I don't like how it is not covering time, money, graphs, measurements, etc.) Or what would you suggest? My younger son is very mathy and is doing addition/ subtraction better than my older son in his head without any trouble. He is in the MUS primer right now. I am trying to figure out if we should find a better "mathy" program for him? Would he do well with Singapor after primer is finished? Thanks!
  21. Wow that was harsh. If her schedual makes you feel this way that is your problem not the OP :( I think it looks similar to what my first grade son and K son is doing! We don't always get to formal science, but we do nature walks. He gets a lot more barn time, lol. He is doing art as well. My son loves art. I would just do a simple book for now with everything you have. He loves How Great Thou Art, very easy to implement! Also I put together a spelling list each week, does she do spelling in phonics road? I'm not familiar with that program. We are doing grammar and phonics with both boys. They do not seem to have any trouble with the two?

  23. DH was just laid off and we are still trying to scramble to pay rent, last months electricity, etc. I'm sure we will find a way, but I'm really stressed right now. Making gifts is a great idea, but even that costs money because you usually don't have everything on hand! Even baking can add up if you are on a strict grocery budget like we are. Do you have anything to sell? We are looking at putting together some scrap metal loads, DH will cut firewood, and I'm going to list some things to sell to hopefully make a little extra. I think not doing anything at all could end up with bad memories and feelings. I know we don't ever buy for anyone other than our 4 children and not even for each other. This year will be the same. We also do not have the luxery of a family member stepping in to help. THey usually get a gift each from a grandparent and a gift from one of the great aunts and an outfit from my cousin. That is about the extent of family gifts so we don't even make up in that area like most families. :hugs:
  24. Yes. In fact it was my own mother with my younger brother. He should be in 9th grade and this year I personalized a curriculum for er that she could realistically get done. She completed 2 school days last year. That's it :(. I was so mad at her. He placed in 4-5th grade materials. I know someone still finishing last year because they were just so busy. I do not agree with that. I also know a few high school students pulled out to homeschool that were just pulled out. No school happening.
  25. It's ok, you weren't the only one to post. lol. It was on the state website today. Which is what upsets me.
