  1. I've got a 14 year old 8th grader whose doing high school level work. The thing to consider is when you do enroll them in college, the subject matter there can really become 18 and older material. My 18 yo dual enrolled child last semester encountered Sex 101/102... and more in poetry and movies they watched in class, Agora, being one of them. He's taking government this coming semester when all the elections will be taking hold. I'm sure there will be a lot of discussion going on then. The conversations of the other students, and sometimes the clothing they wear. My son says there's nothing you can say because it's a college situation.
  2. My oldest went to CC first and it was a perfect fit for him, as he felt anxious at a larger college. Now he thinks the larger college is small. My current college child is also dual enrolled at the same CC and has been active in all of the groups, is known in the office as the younger brother of the older brother. Most of the kids will go to the same state college, so they all feel like a group together. It's been a positive for us.
  3. I got a Threads DVD set of archived magazine articles. A flat fell foot for my sewing machine, and earlier during an online wool sale, I got to really splurge and get some nice wool fabric, and I'm getting pattern drafting lessons over the next year. I am really happy with my gifts.
  4. Thanks. I need to get used to this board. I like it better than the orginal board, but miss that in a way. Maybe because my kids have grown so fast since 1999.
  5. Yes. I shop at Walmart too. Only one still has fabric, but they are going to phase that out there in the near future. I know the ladies and some of my neighbors and friends began shopping there when the economy got a little shakey. It is fun to see the same people every week
  6. Hello. I haven't posted in a few years. I got back into some sewing in a big way when my oldest began college, and there are forums and boards for that, but now that the oldest is graduated from college, I've got some more time but I'm not familiar with some of the new curriculum that's come out. There used to be a reference page you could go to and look at the abbreviated letters to see what they stood for. Is that page still around? Duh. I found the list. It's a sticky. Anyway, hello again to the older members. We have a college graduate from WTM and American School! The Well Trained Mind served him very well in college.
  7. They were on sale at Walmart recently from the Christmas ad that came out right before Christmas. I know my husband bought a twin set in metal at Costco.
  8. I've got the classic set of TOG and I had my youngest read the books and do some coloring or art, but I mainly used Susan's book for the first 5 years. My youngest recently turned 12, and we are mixing some WTM, Rod and Staff, Far Above Rubies/Blessed is the Man, and classic TOG. This seems to have been a successful combination for us. I just have the British literature Sonlight, but my oldest and now the middle has really enjoyed that. If only there were more hours in a day, I would have liked to have tried more Sonlight too.
  9. I got the DVD set when my kids were younger. They remind me of my childhood on Saturday mornings
  10. My oldest did the American School route. I combined this with TWTM. I haven't posted in a few years, but I did a long post on this on the old boards. He just graduated from college this semester. He got a partial scholarship based on his test scores.
