  1. Does an audio version of Writing with Skill level 3 exist? Or any of them really. I would dearly love my high schooler to be independent with this book.
  2. I’ve got a dyslexic ds using Power Basics Biology from Walsh Education. I’d like to find some review platforms to help with all those pesky vocabulary words. I only found 4 vocabulary lists on Quizlet. Are there any options out there? I know I can find videos and whatnot that match the lesson topics, but I’d like to not reinvent the wheel. Thanks
  3. My high schooler wants to focus on the non Western European experience in the Americas, which really boils down to Indigenous people and African Americans. That fits right into my plan of a year of civil rights and racial justice. I'm looking at the following books Howard Zinn- A Peoples History of the United States - there is a youth edition An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States- there is a youth edition An African American and Latinx Peoples’ History of the United States All of these are too long to read straight thr Oh! Freedom curriculum by Woke Homeschooling uses the young people's edition of the Zinn book as well as the youth edition of Mirror Mirror. Has anyone used this curriculum for high school? I wonder how much I’d have to beef up for high school. I also have a 5th and 8th grader on the same topic. Any advice for other books to serve as a spine? I want something that’s truthful (with a T), but not so biased the other way that it’s propaganda. For reference we live in a well off majority Latino/Mexican suburb surround by wealthy white suburbs. When my white kids drop in to take classes at the PS they get to be the minority. Thanks Jennifer
  4. My daughter took an econ class at our Co-op last year. The teacher organized a business selling candy during lunch. They shares and did all the bookkeeping. It was really fun for them and they learned a lot
  5. My raising Freshman would like to study the history of Asia as her history credit for this coming year. Has anyone done this? I'm looking for a few good books. She's a good student/reader so I don't have any limits on what I'll consider. I did see a Foundations of Asia on the Teaching Company Plus website. It doesn't look like it'd be a whole credit. I will consider a semester's worth of credit as well. Thanks in advance. Jennifer
  6. Thanks to all. I'll ponder this spring and implement something over the summer. Wilson is appealing because of the price and reputation, although now I think the reputation is prob. a front. On the other hand I can buy Barton used then sell it.
  7. I have 3 kiddos with a dx of dyslexia and a 4th who is struggling. I am widely read and feel like I could implement Wilson at home, however I haven't gotten my hands on the program to flip through it. Barton I know is scripted and open-go, but Wilson has a better reputation among tutors and educators in my area. I was advise to do Wilson if I had the option. How challenging is it to do Wilson at home? Jennifer
  8. The problem with buying tiles from Barton is I"m planning on buying used. I hear that Barton is tight with their products/tiles if you don't purchase new from them. For those who like the app--do I have to purchase each level separately? Will they let me purchase the app if I've bought used? Thanks
  9. I am considering starting Barton this summer. I've read a bit about the Barton tile resell issue. I already have all the levels of AAS so I wonder if the tiles are similar enough I can just use those and sell the Barton tiles when i'm done with the level. Barton users can you tell me if there is a significant difference between the tiles of Barton and AAS? Thanks.
  10. Well, I've decided to go with the week long break. An odd day off here or there would mess with our curriculum too much and a week will probably seem more luxurious. I also asked my retired public school teacher aunt and cousin who is a principal. They both voted for a week break. Either way we can't really go any where; I have 2 kids dipping into the public school for a class.
  11. freesia We also use TOG so making the week shorter is difficult. This year we are doing an enrichment style co-op so it'll be interesting to try to get TOG and that to gell. Julie Your idea has some merit-- I'll have to ponder the ticket idea.
  12. I'm planning next school year's schedule. This time I'm going to schedule a mid-winter week long break, in Feb. However, I'm wondering if it is better for students to have 5 single days off spread throughout the winter instead of week of break. Any thoughts? Thanks
  13. It's a live class. I'm looking ahead to college, in 2 yrs, and thinking we need to test the waters with some assistive tech. Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk
  14. I have a dyslexic who is having trouble taking notes in a literature class. So what can I use on an Android phone to record a class while we think about a more permanent option. Also what is your favorite assistive device to record a class? Thanks. Jennifer in IL
  15. Oh my. We'll clearly what I post there is on the forum. What do you use to read the forum? Jennifer in IL
  16. So how do I star/like a post so I can find it again? I see the subcribe button which will notify me if there is an additional reply. However, how to find a post / topic again? Also at the bottom of topic there is a like button, reply button and a little button that looks like a silhouette of a person with a tiny plus sign next to it. What does that mean? Does the Tapatalk app get as much traffic as the website forum? Is it the exact same or are they separate? The other day I posted a question on one of the board and now I can't find it. And of course, I can't remember what the title of my topic was and or remember which board it was on. Thanks for any help. I hope I can find this again to read your answers! Jennifer
  17. I'm in an android so I use Stitcher for my podcasts. Does anyone have favorites? Thanks
  18. I have a 17yo who is gifted in 3D modeling. Think CGI for movies. He can also make/draw a 3D model of a car, chess piece, whatever. None of us are thrilled with the Hollywood thought. He's not THAT talented enough to compete for a spot at Pixar. So what careers would fit this? We thought of architecture, industrial design, graphic design, engineering (although he might not have the math skills). Also how does he find out enough about these careers to know what he wants to do? Some of our ideas have very different course requirements that don't transfer well to another major. Thanks
  19. This essay is mentioned in an article regarding use of WWS and WWE. And I just can't find it. http://downloads.peacehillpress.com/samples/pdf/WWEandWWSexplanation.pdf
  20. I'm looking for the Algebra I TM ISBN 0201860961. I may have found it here: http://www.pearsonschool.com Any other ideas? Thanks Jennifer
  21. We've done grammar since 1st grade. Now I have a 4th and 6th grader. They both get 95% correct on the Easy Grammar assign. At this point it seems like busy work. When should our students stop doing it?? Thanks Jennifer in IL (who is trying to get a grip on the whole forum thing)
