  1. I thought I had it all figured out. My ds14 who does well in all his classes. He is gifted in speech and competes in NCFCA, loves history/liberal arts, is not doing well in Geology. I thought I had it all figured out. I did think Geology was going to be boring for him as it would be for me. He does do all the homework but he is not doing well. He is taking it at the homeschool co-op. I just signed him up so it would fill one of his science credits. Even though he is not scientifically inclined, he has always read books like the History of Medicine and the Kingfisher Science Encyclopedia and enjoyed learning and has retained the knowledge. What would you do? Would you drop the class and look into another science for the year? Obviously at this point, it would have to be done at home. What do you all do for HS sciences? Thanks for posting.
  2. If the child is 14 and has never done Latin before. Which would be better? Thanks, Maury
  3. If you don't already own the text, you can get it on e-bay. HTH
  4. Upon comparing the links that Karen so graciously provided, my thoughts were just as you have shared above. The government in the redesign just looks amazing. I did use Yr. 1 and I prefer the layout of redesign anyway. I also noticed what you said about the alternative resources provided in the redesign. I will be using redesign yr.2! Thanks again.
  5. classic? Your posts are so extremely helpful. I see the difference in the literature. What about if one is only looking to use it for the history? I have signed up my son for a great books study with oxford tutorials. I am deciding whether to save the money and use classic. Did the history change much for the rhetoric in redesign 2? The explanation of giving a World History Honors credit? Is that any different? Thanks.
  6. I own Latin for Children and never got around to implementing it. He will be a 9th grader in the fall. Thanks for your comments.
  7. are great as well as the High School World History ones by professor Linwood Thompson. These courses rotate being on sale throughout the year. Every month they have different courses on sale, check them out at www.teach12.com
  8. My thinking is along the lines of what you are doing. I looked Spielvogel in Amazon and some of the reviews said they loved history and this was a boring book or disappointing. Thank you so much for your suggestions.
  9. what do you do or what have you done starting in 9th and throughout 12th. This child is thinking of majoring in History. Thanks again.
  10. what do you do or have done with that student for High School. DS will be a 9th grader in the fall and I am trying to plan the high school years. Your comments are deeply appreciated. Thanks
  11. Thank you for taking the time to share. I'm headed to the link. Maury
  12. I find the TJE home companion on both amazon and IEW but not the little booklet. Thanks, Maury
  13. How do you grade your high school student? Do you just use the evaluations? What specifically do you do for History and Government in year 2? Thanks Maury
  14. If you are using Omnibus in High School, what else do you do for History? I have been using TOG. My son is a history buff, who is thinking of majoring in history. The selections in Omnibus appear to be better from a historical literature viewpoint. Does anyone do both? If so how? Do you use another history program? If so, what? He will be starting 9th in the fall. Thanks. Maury
  15. If we are all so concerned about the UN Convention on the RIghts of the Child (and we should be) then what we need to do is sign the Petition for the Amendment to recognize parental rights as a constitutional right. This is not about supporting HSLDA or not supporting them. This is about our rights as parents.
