  1. We have a probable move this summer, too, so I'm listening in. Great advice, Ann and Maranda. ETA: stealing the idea re: taping a list of contents to the outside of each box! : ). Thanks!
  2. Are the UTK homeschool classes the ones offered through the gardens? If there are other homeschool classes offered at UT, can you share a link to that info? Now I'm off to search out info on the orchestra, too. Thanks! : )
  3. I usually put a scant teaspoon in my coffee or tea. I've tried using more, but I've found my stomach tolerates several small scattered doses rather than one large dose all at once. I'll bake with it, too, if I'm making something the taste complements. ETA: I think it's practically unnoticeable in steel cut oats, so I always include it in that.
  4. Listening in to this thread because there's a very good chance we're moving to the Knoxville area this summer. We used to live there years ago and LOVED it, but that was pre-child. It will be a new adventure because we're in the family-friendly phase now rather than the young-and-having-fun phase. I've been researching community homeschool classes/field trips, and it looks like there are a lot of educational opportunities in Knoxville, Oak Ridge, and the Smokies. I just hope there's an easy way to meet other kids dd's age because leaving behind her friends will be the hardest part of the move. For what it's worth, OP, dh and I adored Knoxville when we lived there before and have been waiting for a chance to get back there ever since we left.
  5. We don't hide baskets. They're treated somewhat like Christmas stockings. We leave them out ready to be filled. I just snuck back upstairs from filling them. I tag team with dh. I stay up late to fill baskets. He wakes up early to hide eggs. I imagine holiday eves won't be as exhausting once dd figures things out? Happy Easter! : )
  6. The one thing I really regret with our remodel is not putting in two ovens.
  7. I'm with Heather on this one. We treat our laundry like we do our dishes - must be cleaned and put away each day but we're still never totally caught up.
  8. Yes, the app has a play option on the flip side. If you hit play, a voice says the word and names the part of speech.
  9. Maybe between your local group and any interested here (so far I just have two on my list and I'm one of them), we could hit the minimum.
  10. Back in the 80s, my brother was born 6 weeks early. I was 10, so I remember a little. He had a pretty bad case of jaundice, but other than that I don't think there was anything terribly wrong or scary. He wasn't in the hospital an unusually lengthy time, and he certainly didn't have developmental delays in early childhood. It wasn't long before you would never have guessed he had been born early.
  11. I just saw this, and I'm very interested. I'll be the lead if no one else wants it.
  12. What a great site! We LOVE theatre, and if I had the extra cash, I'd be so tempted to subscribe to this. I hope we can get a group rate or cheaper single licenses, etc.
  13. Wow. She sounds a bit wacky. That sounds like quite an overreaction. I'm trying to imagine any of my friends responding like that and I can't think of a single one that would. I wouldn't let her words get you down, but I would start making an escape plan. If she's that wacky over this incident, I can only imagine she'll get worse.
  14. We've been taking some books and the iPad and doing school at our special place at the river this week. Sometimes we just take our stuff out to our own backyard. We like being outside as much as possible.
  15. Yesterday, me to dd: "So do you want to go back and look more closely at the cottonmouth?" It's cold here, but we came across a cottonmouth (water moccasin) on a hike. It was extremely sluggish due to the temps, so when I asked dd as we were walking away if she noticed the shape of the head and she said she didn't get a good look, I thought what better time for an up close look at a live venomous snake.
  16. Congratulations! I remember the excitement, apprehension, and joy so well. Enjoy the rest of your time in China.
  17. No, I will not give you my fingernails the next time I clip them.
  18. Yes. My 9 yr old read all of the books at age 7 and has seen all of the movies. She loved her HP phase and doesn't appear to be scarred for life.
  19. With kids that young, definitely Disney. Your oldest might do okay on the other trip, but I can't imagine the younger ones would have much fun or be able to maintain mostly pleasant moods.
  20. I hope he ends up believing you. A family in our neighborhood lost their house due to a dryer fire a few years ago. I had always cleaned out the lint trap in ours, but I started cleaning out hoses and down under the trap regularly after that. I also won't run the dryer unless I'm home and awake now.
