  1. Appeal multiple times based on your dd's condition - it was a life threatening emergency. If they won't budge, then I'd get a lawyer. $35k is worth a lawyer.
  2. My kids are life guarding and have a medical condition that makes them require more salts. I send them with 1.5 liters of Gatorade and a half gallon of water for a 5-10 hour shift. Also watery foods like fruit and jello. They haven't liked any home made electrolyte drinks or any of the less sweet Gatorade alternatives. The doctor actually told me to give them 80-100oz of Gatorade per day this spring. I guess that supports the fact that doctors get little training In nutrition. We skip the Gatorade until summer rolls around but then it's crucial.
  3. I believe the WTMAcademy class covers three chapters per week. My 10th grader found one chapter per week to be grueling. However she was only interested in the pre Greek history. Maybe you could just cover the first chapters?
  4. I have the Pop. I purchased it after my Fitbit died while I was washing my face at the sink. The Pop is really waterproof. It counts steps or strokes if you swim. I like it. There is no charging it. It's battery powered.
  5. I don't have any pain now, 24 hours out except ankle pain from my formerly broken joint. That is normal. My guts are still gurgling and loose but there's no pain per se. It did occur to me, on seeing the allergy posts, that on both occasions I had an ibuprofen within 12 hours prior. I've never had a problem with it before though I haven't really had any since February. I suppose I could take one and find out but I can't bring myself to do that yet. I had been doing hflc prior to all this. I stopped around a week before. Maybe that effects gallbladder? Thank you for your responses. You have given me some good ideas.
  6. I have now had two episodes, five days apart, of being violently ill. For about 3 hours or so. Both ends. It feels as if I've been punched in the gut for the first 12 hours afterwards. It was about four days after the first episode that my body seemed normal again. I have had some nausea for the past two-three weeks. Any ideas? I'm hoping to get in to see my doc tomorrow but I would like to have some ideas. Thank you Sandra
  7. I can sympathize! I think I'm starting to rust!
  8. I haven't used these, but I've been eyeing them for a while: nose filters. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s_ss_i_1_10?k=woody+nose+filter&sprefix=woody+nose I think your best bet is going to be getting a counselor to help with the nose spray phobia, though.
  9. We use email and texts within out Senior troop. Many parents don't respond. I try to just put the options out there and then make a decision based on any feedback I get. At this point, the girls can have tons of decision power if they choose. Most of the time they are too busy to respond outside of a meeting. I use paper permission forms and health histories though I send them out via email. I bring blanks to events. I hang on to health forms and re-use them. I don't ask for feedback. People present at the meeting/activity get to participate and comment. You make the decisions with input from the girls. if a parent thinks X is a good idea, tap them to do it.
  10. Any chance the squash wasn't cooked all the way? I have noticed that the squash needs to be soft-ish or I have problems. Just because you can shred it doesn't mean it's fully cooked
  11. I have 10 place settings each a different color. No whites, beiges, Browns, or blacks. I love having a rainbow in my cupboard!
  12. Years ago we used one. It worked but I helped it along. I slept in dc's bed. I'd respond to the alarm before dc did at first. I'd wake dc up all the way and get them to the bathroom to finish peeing. I'd pull off that layer of sheets and wayerproof pad and we'd go back to bed. I kept everything very positive. After two weeks dc was waking on their own to the alarm most of the time. We did the full 12 week program and it worked. I moved back to my own room once the alarm reliably woke dc but I'd still help with removing wet sheets and things.
  13. Ok, I haven't read the studies but it seems like a correlation and not causation relationship. Did the study include people being supplemented? Or only natural thyroid levels? I do supplement enough to be in the "best" level per this paper but my family doctor has a fit about how much thyroid I take. It makes a huge difference.
  14. Drink as you normally would. Hold beginning 30 minutes before your appointment. They don't need much.
  15. I find myself in a similar position thank you for your ideas. Our co-op includes many unschoolers so I'm not sure how much reading will get done but I want my own dd to really learn.
  16. Perhaps it's not so nice, but fire stations often have a banquet hall (aka bingo room)
  17. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1615642358/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1459514336&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=idiots+guide+aquaponics&dpPl=1&dpID=51rFte8YNIL&ref=plSrch I have this one. I think it's pretty good. The author has videos of her set up on YouTube.
  18. My dd is just about to finish Geometry. We will take a week off then move into Algebra 2. While she likes the explanations, I think the immediate feedback on the problem is the key for her. I dread getting to Pre-Calc. I wish Teaching Textbooks would implement the autocorrect for that level!!!
  19. As I recall, each epi is good to cover the person for 15 minutes in cases of severe reaction. That's why two are prescribed. If the camp is more than 30 minutes from ER or EMT with epi, the boy should take more than two.
  20. Check online for coupons from the manufacturers and check online pharmacies, too.
  21. That's too bad. Can he just do the research to set up a system?
  22. Check for hydroponics and Aquaponics farms in your area. Also check with universities. Also check FB and forums in these topics. Last year I was putting together a program on Aquaponics for 4-H and found multiple hydroponics farms and one Aquaponics farm within my state. I also found that one state U had a significant program in Aquaponics. By cruising YouTube videos on the topic I realized that the woman who wrote the book, Aquaponics for Dummies, lived one county over. I arranged for a tour of her setup for the club. Then I broke at ankle and missed the tour. :( These are very interesting topics. I hope you can find resources. I still have a small tank with goldfish and lettuce/herbs.
  23. Coming at it from a POTS perspective, has she had any life changes that are making her sweat more, drink less, or exercise less? Thinking of a friend with diet-controlled seizures, has she upped her intake of simple carbs or dropped her fat intake compared to previous levels? I'd see a neurologist ASAP. Does she drive? She needs to stop until this is figured out.
  24. I'm a Girl Scout leader. I have never pushed sales of any sort. Our Cookie Mom is the same. However, in our Council you will not be approved for other fundraising activities if you haven't participated in both the Fall Candy Sale and the Cookie Sale. That stinks, but no one says you have to sell a ton. Now that my troop is working on Gold Award projects and pondering a big senior trip, I have encouraged everyone to at least buy/sell something in each sale so we can do other fundraisers for the expensive things.
  25. I'm seconding the recommendation of Stash Chai if you are willing to dunk a tea bag in hot water rather than use a powder. I love it as do have the guests to whom I serve it. It actually helps to let it steep longer than normal for s black tea if you are going to add milk. You could go really old school and make your own concentrate to add to black tea. It keeps wonderfully in the fridge.
