  1. Just wanted to check in on you! :) Perhaps the braindump or brainstorm method. Just start writing. Order doesn't matter. Once you've listed everything you can think of, then prioritize.
  2. I've spent money every day this month! ARGH! Green means planned expense. Red means unplanned expense. 4/1: $60 -- Prescription, cough medicine, juice, and cream for my coffee 4/2: $100 -- Plumber to tell us it isn't the lines, it is the faucet in the kitchen 4/3: $114 -- New faucet, running water again!! 4/4: $259 -- Groceries...less than $33 per person/per week! 4/5: $70 -- Gas...weekly fill up 4/6: $20 -- Supply fee for ds's fishing class...I'd completely forgotten!
  3. I think there are a lot of people on the board right now in a similar position, myself included! My moving is in the future...maybe this summer, maybe not...definite downsize...not sure how far...not sure how many kids will be at home...etc. Makes planning, purging, and packing very nebulous and mostly not done... Sounds like you've got a definite time frame though -- and a house you're excited about! :) Before you actually start packing (unless this move is a week away!) look at your stuff and ask questions: Do I want to pack this? Do I want to unpack this? Do I want this as part of my new life? What will happen if I don't bring this with? There are lots of moving checklists on the internet... the ones that remind you to connect new utilities and register to vote. Those are good too...but you can spend valuable purging/packing time browsing lists. Congrats on the new house!
  4. :iagree: I was trying to think of something clever like this to post on your blog. Congrats!!
  5. I don't think I posted in the March tread at all, but as it turns out, our family did really well not spending! My dh said we spent about half what we normally do on the credit card. It was a combination of things -- nothing broke, no big items were bought, no yearly expenses were due, etc. AND I kept the grocery bill down. I think what helped the most was mindset: dh might go back to school, either part or full-time -- really depends on how his job goes, and his LSAT score. All that said, April is off to a spendy start! 4/1: $60 -- Prescription, cough medicine, juice, and cream for my coffee 4/2: $100 -- Plumber to tell us it isn't the lines, it is the faucet in the kitchen 4/3: $114 -- New faucet, running water again!! Today, I have to go grocery shopping. Tomorrow, I will get gas. Hopefully, I won't spend anything over the weekend!!
  6. It is the "moveable nu" -- first introduced in Lesson 4 (I think). It is used when the -ουσι verb is at the end of the sentence or is followed by a word that starts with a vowel. There might be some exceptions. I can ask my 16yo if that doesn't make sense, she is a lot further in Greek.
  7. Just wanted to say hello & welcome to Virginia!
  8. At my house the person I feel sorry for is ME because I don't want to go through said curriculum AGAIN! I skipped First Language Lessons when ds7 was in 1st grade because I just couldn't do it a 5th time! However, the workbook I picked for him was pretty lousy, so I'm using FLL at double speed this year! For the 5th time! However, given that your middle dd appreciates gifts I'd order a couple things new -- like Dover coloring books!
  9. Did you find it?? I'm thinking about next year's curriculum... :)
  10. :grouphug: I understand...I'm still 5wolfcubs. Glad you kept your avatar AND put your former name in your signature!
  11. I don't have any recommendations, but I wanted tell you I peeked at your blog and was intrigued by the SOAP Bible Study you mentioned. I followed the links until I found the explanation here. I really like it! Have you kept it up? I know you're looking for resources, but I'd love to hear how this has gone for your family! :)
  12. Your Harry Potter School is amazing! And I love your pinterest boards. Off to repin some more! :)
  13. Thank you! Now I want to add this to the Greek & Latin we are doing!!
  14. Nala sounds perfect! As for pictures, I found I had to delete quite a few pictures I had posted on the old board before I could post a picture on the new board...less storage allowed! Hope you are having a happy puppy morning! My three olders are off walking Tenshi...which makes me happy!
  15. $126-150 for our family of 8. My dh eats paleo, girls are vegetarians, and boys & I are omnivores. I shop only at Wegmans...which is a cross between Whole Foods and a standard grocery store, both in offerings and cost. I really need to decrease food spending, but we are all happy which how we're currently eating. I almost put the $3.99 peanut butter back for the $1.99 peanut butter at the story yesterday. But I couldn't justify the $2 savings (actually, it would have been $6, since I bought 3 jars) verses the HFCS.
  16. When we switched diets again to vegan (and have switched yet again since!) my husband bought two kinds of mock meat -- a chicken one and a beef one, as transitional foods for our boys. They had a very hard time on a previous diet change (to raw vegan) and he wanted to make it easier on them. One was so-so and one was delicious, but I can't remember which! It was the only time we bought mock meat. It was too expensive to continue. I do think the idea of trying to recreate meat is kind of strange. But then I love the blog Chocolate Covered Katie and she does an amazing job recreating junk food with healthy vegan ingredients. And I don't think that is strange.
  17. We're sort of living a Middle Ages Study by participating in the Society for Creative Anachronism -- I have two pinterest board that have all kinds of Middle Ages related links: lots of garb, and a smattering of history, maps, games, weapons, toys, etc. SCA/Medieval Life and SCA Kids Are you going to make a full-fledged "school" like you did with Harry Potter??
  18. From Chucki's list I like Summer and Amber, although Amber can be a girl's name. I like Autumn and Saffron, too, but they don't roll off my tongue as easily. Actually, Saffron could be shortened to Saffy, which is really cute. Okay, now I feel like I need a Golden Retriever puppy named Saffy!!!! Which is crazy. One dog (and all her FLUFF) is enough. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. What about another golden gem word besides Amber --Topaz or Sapphire (traditionally thought of as blue but can be golden...and it even could be shortened to Saffy!)? Of course, Tenshi might be the perfect name for your puppy! I hope you post pictures when you get her!!
  19. Check your library (or have your olders look!) for fun books. I have two pinboards that link mostly to blogs: Toddler Ideas (for littler ones) and Primary Track (ideas for the 3-4yo co-op class I teach)
  20. I like it. But then, I like them all! I wonder if too many names is like too many things??
  21. We got a Golden Retriever when I was a girl...his name was Scooby because he barked like Scooby Doo. I disliked that show and tried to get everyone to call him Cheyenne. But it didn't stick. I still Cheyenne is a great Golden Retriever name. :) For our own dog we wanted a Japanese name because the breed originates in Japan. We got out the Japanese dictionary and I started with the letter A. Any name that was a possibility I'd try calling in a few different voices. A good girl voice, a bad girl voice, a commanding voice, a coaxing voice, etc. The family didn't appreciate this but I wanted a name I could use. We didn't find a name we liked until we got to the letter T -- Tenshi, which means angel. For animal names we've primarily used foreign languages, book characters, and types of fabric (for a trio of goat kids!). Good luck with your new puppy!!
  22. I came upon this thread from a search on unschooling, of all things! Just wanted to see how intentional you’d been in your reductionist quest for a life of functionality and quasiminimalism.
  23. I found a website in another thread on another topic that might inspire you: The Minimalists The link is to their 21 day journey. Very timely and encouraging for me!
