I had a friend who was doing medical transcription successfully out of her home a few years ago. She wasn't self-employed; she logged into a website and accepted assignments. I haven't been in touch with her for some time, so I don't know if she's still doing it now. One big concern in this field is outsourcing, though. I'd do some research into the outlook of transcription before deciding.

We are looking for a good online driver's ed. class for my ds16. Does anyone have recommendations for a good course at a reasonable price? (We live in California.) Thanks! :)

Have you looked at SWB's dictation demonstration on Youtube? Someone posted a link a few months back. Watching that helped me a lot. Now I generally go over any words my dd doesn't know and tell her what punctuation to listen for ahead of time. If it takes more than 2 or 3 readings, that's ok.

Well, let's say your dc will graduate at 18. At 16, she would be in 10th grade. So, if you, as your dds say, "gradually" hand over the responsibility of her education to her over the last 2 years - say, letting her help choose curriculum, areas of focus, study schedules, etc. - then she will be all prepared and ready to do it fully by herself by the time she begins college. Right on time! :D I say that tongue in cheek, but really, like anything, it depends on the child. Parents are responsible for their dc's education. I don't think kids have a "right" to take full command of their last 2 years of high school. However, if your dc show enough maturity, sure you can start to gradually give them more responsibility, conditional on their handling it properly. Good news: parents still get to define "properly."

I am so sad you have to go through this and be attacked as a mother on top of it. No one else knows or loves your kids like you do. Doctors can be prejudiced just like anyone else, and are not always right. Don't let them get into your head. It is clear that you have tried and are trying your very best for ALL your kids. My 16yo ds has daily and weekly chores. Daily: Makes bed Sometimes feeds cats Clears dinner table Helps empty dishwasher Sweeps kitchen Light cleaning of bathroom Takes out the garbage and recycling (every couple of days or so) Weekly: Does his own laundry Deeper cleaning of bathroom Vacuums family room Light dusting Helps with one or more monthly chores on rotation: washing windows, heavy dusting, cleaning pantry, spot-cleaning woodwork, polishing furniture, etc. Puts out and brings in the garbage cans Washes the car (more like every-other-week) Occasionally his dad assigns him yardwork. (I haven't trained him in cooking or ironing much, yet. Should do that!) He does school from 7:30 to about 2:30 or 3 with about 1:15 of breaks for meals/snacks.

Is dh usually more available? What is he able to do to pitch in? I know that he is running (starting up?) a business, which is stressful and time-consuming, but what you are doing - keeping house, running a virtual restaurant, raising four children, homeschooling, AND helping with the business is like having at least 3 full-time jobs! You are right, you cannot do it all alone. Can you give dh a list of things and say, "I need help. Which of these things can you do?" You guys are in this together, and if there is no family to help, dh needs to help (although maybe he is already.) Otherwise, I agree with the good suggestions from others to simplify the meal-making, use locks, and find babysitters if possible. If you collapse, then what is your family going to do? :grouphug: Hang in there!
