  1. There are so many books out there! Can anyone recommend a how-to-pay type book, or a book on scholarship research. . . I'm feeling overwhelmed! How does anyone pay for college these days?
  2. That's similar to my recipe as well. I start by sauteing about 1/4 cup of minced onions in the butter because I have a house full of onion lovers here. Also, we like crushed tortilla chips on top. And hot sauce on the side! Yum.
  3. Are you talking about eating at home or having to pack? At home we like veggie burgers on a bun, vegetable quesadillas, baked potato and veggies (required a little foresight to pop them in), what we call the "big salad" (anything you want on top!) and bean tacos are all favorites around here. Other than going out! For packing, sometimes I send them with a bunch of little things like yogurt, granola bars, nuts, dried fruits, hummus with chips, sliced red peppers. . . HTH!
  4. 1 cup warm water with 1 tbs. honey mixed in, 1 1/2 tsp. yeast, 3/4 tsp. salt and 2 1/2 - 3 cups bread flour. Mix, knead, let rise until doubled, then make a pizza!
  5. I went on that way for many years before I went to the allergist, went through 2 years of shots, and am now completely symptom free! For the last 5 years. Allergies are awful, aren't they?
  6. I also became frustrated with all the different pieces of our language arts, so I switched to Classical Writing. It included grammar, spelling, writing, vocabulary. I was also able to tie in some of our other reading in to it as well. And the girls liked it!
  7. The set I have (that I'm offering for sale ;) has a hardcover text for the student, a book of tests and an answer book that contains answers to both the student text and the test booklet. Three books. HTH
  8. We've enjoyed the Arkangel "Romeo and Juliet", "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Hamlet." We liked the additional music as well. I haven't heard the others so I can't comment. The library usually has both, so you could just check them out and try both.
  9. I have the three piece set for sale if you're interested: Saxon Algebra 1/2, Third Edition, hardcover, Student Text, Answer Book and Test Booklet, good condition, $40
  10. We have an 03 and have had no transmission problems. It has about 130K on it. The doors seem like the most likely trouble spot to us but so far we've kept them moving!
  11. We've been using the Iowa Test for years but order it from Brewer's Testing Service rather than BJU. A lot less hoops to jump through, I believe. You do have to sign certifying you have a degree.
  12. I'm looking for a game that will help my (embarrassingly old) kids learn their US Capitols. . . especially one for older kids (age 12 and up). . .any suggestions?

  14. I guess I would take the literature recommendations in TWTM and match the books up with the time periods in History of the Medieval World, voila! That's how I do it with whatever spine I'm using for history.
  15. Anyone else have experiences with open courseware? I'm curious as well.
  16. The best idea I can come up with is to look in a SAT II review book and try to determine the answer to your question. Is there any info on the SATII website about content?
  17. I think Rosie is right, although it seems to me it's not going to solve the too short problem. It may make them shorter. You could attach an waistband casing to hold the elastic, which would buy you more length. I would definitely not take apart the dress and reuse the fabric, very labor intensive and likely to have unsatisfactory results. You might be able to get your girls excited about selecting some new fabric to make a few skirts, a great beginner sewing project. The pattern books will indicate the sewing difficulty of a pattern, just look for easy ones. Good luck!
  18. You can find a lot of useful information about AP courses on the College Board website. Recommended textbooks, syllabi. There are also a few online places that offer AP courses (PA Homeschoolers) and obviously the review books that are available.
  19. Make it easy on yourself and just tell her the kids are not old enough for overnights yet
  20. We have a laser print and a color inkjet. I would say 99% of the time I print on the laser printer: it's fast, trouble-free and a lot cheaper (especially if you buy refurbished toner cartridges) and for black and white, the print quality is sharper. On the occasions I use the color ink-jet, after I finish futzing around with it because I haven't used it in a while and the ink-jet heads have dried out, ordered yet another expensive ink replacement, etc., I'm very glad I have my laser printer! JMHO
  21. I usually go spend the weekend with my single friend who has no kids! We play scrabble and drink wine all weekend. In fact, I'm going next weekend!
