  1. Oh believe me, I don't have a super busy practice but when I am in a busy season, I completely understand the ease that scheduling births brings. :glare: And you are correct, just because it makes it easier for her, that doesn't make it right to not listen to a woman, dismiss a woman's informed choices, or refuse to compromise. So stand your ground. Let her know that unless she has a documented, medically indicated reason to induce, you do not give your informed consent. ACOG states that 30-60 seconds of delayed cord clamping is adequate. You would think the care providers would listen to their organization's practice guidelines. But they don't. I completely agree with you...just sharing my experience in watching doctors try to actually wait until the cord is completely done pulsing. ;)
  2. I'm so sorry you are having to fight for the informed decisions you want to make. You probably are one of the first to tell her no and question her decision making. ;) Early induction - But you don't have any PreE symptoms now, correct? Ask her why she wants to do it a week early. What evidence? If she's concerned about PreE, expectant management is fine with the absence of actual PreE symptoms. Insist that she back up her decision making with evidence. Cord clamping - This one is tricky. It's really not about hospital policy as much as the care provider. So them telling you it's up to the OB is right. Not that you don't have a say, but you have to convince the provider to do it. It's ingrained in an OB to catch, clamp, cut, get the placenta out, etc. Changing up that sequence and routine throws them off. Just like if you asked me (I'm a CPM) to follow that sequence, it would throw me off because it's not my routine. It's possible but it is a hard one to get them to do. All you can really do is talk to her about it now BUT you will have to remind her at delivery. Yes, sometimes they do ignore the request...I've seen that happen. Or the doctor will stand there with the clamp and spin them around anxiously because he/she doesn't know what to do now. LOL! Your husband can help by keeping an eye out, reminding the doctor as delivery is happening, reminding the doctor right after, saying things like, "We do not consent to...." may help. How much say you have - Well, you are the consumer. You can refuse anything. Again, "I do not consent...." The problem is, as a laboring woman it's hard to fight for what you want and they know that. They know women are vulnerable. Yes, you can say "No". And yes, they can challenge you and do everything they can to oppose you and make your experience hell. I've also seen situations where a patient was told "We need to do XYZ..." and later found out the reason for and actual care they said they were doing was not even charted. I wholeheartedly agree with the suggestion of a doula. Get another set of eyes in the room. Some home birth midwives will take a woman who has history of PreE. I have. We monitor nutrition, watch the client carefully, and make the appropriate transfer of care if symptoms arise. Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Not necessarily. The internal monitor is attached to baby's head and they put a little thing on the mother's leg to attach the cord to. So it's all in place and the woman can move and change positions. While invasive, one benefit of internal monitoring is she can move around without the monitor slipping off baby like the external monitors do. I would consider a client with this history. I've had one in the past. A history of PreE does not equate PreE in the current pregnancy. And VBAC status does not risk a woman out of the home birth option.
  3. Stick with the Himalayan. More minerals. Morton's is processed and stripped of the minerals. You might also look at making some sole water to take as a supplement.
  4. If we have to use a hotel, I only book places that have suites with two rooms and a kitchenette. Our favorites are Homewood Suites and Wyndam Garden (by far the best space for the money!!). I've never considered sneaking more bodies into a maximum four room. It's just never occurred to me to try but even more so, we don't like to be crammed in a room. We like our space. lol These days, with actual grown up big people, we look on VRBO first before considering a hotel. We can get a house for less than what a hotel would be.
  5. I'm three hours from my Mom. She comes here for Thanksgiving. We go there over New Years to celebrate Christmas with her. We used to go visit her over Mother's Day but the last several years I've been on-call. When the kids were younger and we did birthday parties, she came for each of their birthdays. She adopted a 13yo a couple years ago. Visits are stressful. Those two visits are enough for me and my family. My ILs moved to FL last Spring. We've seen them once since their move when we went to FL for vacation. I really wish we could see them more often. I miss them being six miles away. :crying: MIL is late 70s and FIL is early 80s but they are very healthy but the travel expenses are too much for them to visit on their fixed income.
  6. Ditto Statistics. And ditto looking to taking it as a concurrent class. My daughter did College Algebra via concurrent this past Fall. Then she found out from an advisor at the university she's looking to attend that they will not accept that class as their general education math requirement. So she's taking Statistics at CC this Fall since they will accept that.
  7. :lurk5: because I'm planning on starting my 14yo with Commonplace this Fall.
  8. Looking for in-store. I don't buy clothes online.
  9. Looking for a bikini that is supportive for the "girls" and isn't a thong or super skimpy bikini bottom...but is still fairly flattering. Anywhere but Lane Bryant (the employees at our store are absolutely rude if you're not a size 20 or more).
  10. We would have a straightforward conversation about what kind of lifestyle they want to have and what that may cost to sustain. If they pursue that career and can afford to live in a modest apartment or inexpensive rental home and live a minimalist lifestyle AND be content..go for it!If they pursue that career but have dreams of a large home and the ability to live on a budget that allows the freedom of extra spending...it's going to be a lot harder to achieve and sustain. We would also discuss residual income to supplement what this particular career pays, discuss the importance of saving money for the times when money may be tight, teach this child how to be frugal, learn about investing, etc. My career choice doesn't always pay well and the income isn't steady. However, if I needed to support myself I could. In addition to my career I have residual income each month to help (and the potential to increase that amount of income). So yes, it is possible to choose a career...a calling...and support yourself.
  11. My Mom and I took one "big" vacation when I was growing up. A couple other times we went to a friend's lake house one state over. I don't think my husband's family took many. They took off once with $500 to their name from NY to FL and somehow came back with more money than they left with. LOL!! In our almost 20 years as a family, we have been able to do a couple small trips to Branson and two big vacations. Our longest trip was about six years ago when we took two weeks to drive to SC, up to DC, and then to TN. The main reason we were able to swing that was because my ILs had a timeshare and we were able to use some of their points for our stays in SC and TN. Our last one was this past September when we went to FL for a week. It was our kids' first experience flying so it was fun to give them that experience! We saved quite a bit staying at a VRBO. We did visit family (ILs have retired to FL) but we didn't stay with them and only saw them one day during our week there. I enjoy being able to go on vacation but it's so. much. work. when you have kids. It's really not a true vacation for Mom at all. This year hubby and I are going away for a week to celebrate our 20th anniversary!! I'm soooo excited to actually get a real vacation!
  12. My kids do not have a set bedtime and have not for several years (their ages are in my signature). I am of the opinion that they know their body and they need to learn to listen to and tune into what their body is telling them....not what Google says. We don't have a set school start time but they know what assignments they need to get done, what their chores are, what our schedule is (ie. classes or events outside the home), etc. If there is a morning we have to be up and out the door by a certain time, they set an alarm if necessary. We have yet to have an issue with someone not being ready or being exhausted to get up and get moving.
  13. Do the audio cd's help teach the lesson? Or are they supplemental material?
  14. Ditto the suggestions for a medical share program.
  15. She did French for Children last year as an intro. I love love love CAP but they don't have the upper levels like they do for Latin. Something with a dvd lesson is ideal. Online class would be nice but they are usually so very $$$.
  16. Right now it's all mostly thinking and making lists. I have a general idea of what we'll be using. 10th Grade Algebra 2 - Teaching Textbook English II - Within the Word 2; Writing & Rhetoric - Commonplace; LLATL? (undecided on that one); Fix It! (undecided on that one) Biology - Considering CK12 with the Home Scientist lab kit (undecided) History - Still thinking and looking, she might do World History with a focus on France French II - She started with French for Children but they only have one more book and it's for younger kids so I'm looking around ACT prep - Easing her in with the ACT Question of the Day Violin lessons Art class Theater - maybe 7th Grade Algebra 1 - TT; he is about half way through the book English/Lit/Writing - Writing & Rhetoric - Refutation and Confirmation; Memoria Press 6th Grade Lit Guide Set; Fix It! Science - Still thinking and looking, he's interested in Entomology, Geology, Engineering, and Electronics, we may do a little bit of everything History - Still thinking and looking Piano lessons I'll need to clean out our school closet eventually. Maybe the week before school starts. LOL! j/k I need to see if there is any curriculum I can take to the homeschool consignment store, have my newly graduated 17yo move her books/binders out of there, and reorganize a bit for the other two. Other than that..just enjoying our Summer Break!
  17. I think she means she's on cycle day 16. Not 16 days of bleeding. It could be ovulation pain. And yes, it's possible to feel it if you never have before. I have some months that it's more painful than others. Also possible it is a cyst. Not really something we can diagnose on a message board. ;) If it's concerning you or persists next cycle, see your OBGYN or CNM.
  18. We'll be near the Green Lake area. Interested in local, you-can-only-find-it-here type places. The only thing we don't care for is sushi. Hubby is a home brewer so any place with good local beer is a plus.
  19. - No caffeine! - Healthy fats!!!! As much as she can get! - Antioxidant rich foods - Fruits and veggies!!! Raw and fresh is best. - Himalayan pink salt, not white iodized salt. She might also look into using Sole water daily to help supplement with those minerals from the salt. - No processed junk. So if she wants to do a sandwich, load it up with veggies and avocado! But I'd also suggest she consider going gluten-free and see how she feels. If she needs help with meal ideas, I recommend looking into Whole30 recipes. They are going to be processed-food free, gluten free, sugar free, etc. Whole foods and good nutrition! Yes, she should pack a nutrient-rich snack for sure on those days she's going to be busy. She's going to have to learn to manage her stress (don't we all??? ;) ) as well. Things like exercising (aside from those walks across campus), taking breaks to let her mind/body rest, giving herself an afternoon or a day off during the week, etc. Maybe the fitness facility on campus offers a yoga class?
  20. Latin Alive! I got my older two girls started with Latin using Latina Christiana that wasn't as easy to teach, IMO. We switched to Latin Alive! and they took off with it!! My second daughter did so well that she decided to take the National Latin Exam (my oldest did well also...lol...she just wasn't interested in the exam).
  21. Perhaps. Or just a hormone imbalance.
  22. If it were my daughter, in addition to addressing it with diet, I'd start doing things to support her endocrine system, specifically the adrenals, as this is an endocrine system issue. Gaia makes a pretty good adrenal support supplement. I'd also make sure she's taking a liquid calcium/magnesium supplement. Our family uses Young Living products as part of our wellness support so I would also add a few of those products. She's making a good call not using the bcp. That may disrupt her hormones even more and hinder the healing process.
