  1. Eldest child is perfectly happy with videogames and not look for a job.. ARGH
  2. it does beg the question though, what now? Should child #1 look for a full time job? Go back into the provincial school system? I've got to plan something! I've been planning for years! LET ME PLAN!
  3. Still waiting... We checked with both universities. File hasn't been processed yet. Sigh.
  4. I haven't been on this board in ages... Really.. So child #1 got an 800 in the math portion of the SAT with absolutely no coaching whatsoever. Also graduated high school this year, with 5 APs. and we're still waiting for colleges to give any acceptance letter..
  5. I would actually email him back and inquire. Just tell him that you noticed he's answering your emails but not your daughter's. Since you know your emails are going through, you are simply asking whether he got your daughter's emails or not. It is perfectly appropriate to use the one method of communication that you know works in order to figure out if the other one does work or not. However I would keep the conversation at a technical level, and not ask anything related to admissions per se.
  6. Last AP ever for child #1!!! AP Latin today, after 4 years with Mrs Barr at Lukeion. Great preparation! Now if only the colleges could get their act together and give some acceptance letters...
  7. LOL. Not caring one iota... Between AP exams, and video games, life is good either way.
  8. Not too horrid as they're asking for the same hoops as college choice #1. Basically we already had all the required paperwork. For that, I am thankful, because it's 25 pages long! (all books we used in high school, with editors, ISBN, links to website for the table of contents, referral letters, certificates that were earned etc..)
  9. They meant March 1st 2015. Basically it's a form letter that we got and they forgot to change the date. No biggie. We uploaded everything they required within a couple of hours of receiving the email. Our colleges are taking their sweet time wrt homeschoolers. But we knew that. There's still hope for both universities. We were told end of May. As for Seton, or MoDG, at this point in the game, it's too late. Child#1 is a senior now, with only weeks to go.
  10. I'm fairly certain they don't want a student with a 800 score on the math portion of the SAT to slip through the cracks...
  11. Finally, some news.. of a sort... Backup university has decided not to recognise Kolbe Academy as an actual school, and has transferred the file to the homeschool division. When we had talked to admission office before, they were not certain what to do with Kolbe, as it is not recognised by one of the Big Six regional accreditation bodies. So this was a risk we knew about. So now we have more loops to jump through with a stated deadline of March 1st. Yeah sure...
  12. Just found this thread.. Eldest child is doing APs for the last year! And then I start all over again with child #2 This year, Calculus AB, Biology and Latin. Two down, one to go. General attitude so far is "I'm doing fine, everyone else is complaining about how hard the exams are. I don't find them that hard". So there's hope! (in previous years, child#1 has got a 4 in Chemistry, a misplaced exam in Computer Science, and a 5 in Physics B).
  13. We're currently doing Sophie's World with 3 18yo. And we're having a blast! It's really more of a history of philosophy though. Each philosopher is seen pretty quickly. But Sophie's story also helps in keeping the interest going. I love how it shows "the Great Conversation", and how ideas are passed on from one century to the next. If you're planning on a whole year of Philosophy, I'd use Sophie's World in the first quarter, to lay the ground work. And then go deeper.
  14. Yes and no. It's usually between start of March and end of April. Homeschoolers take longer, so we were told by type-A university that no decision would be taken before end of May at the earliest. Backup university was expected to give an answer in March though.... They have till the end of June though, both of them.
  15. You waiting in my stead and the gin and tonic did help for a while. But I've got to admit, less and less... We've had zero communications from the universities. Nothing, nada. Except a note on the website that says "we're thinking about it." I'm starting to think about figuring out a plan B. Problem is that deadlines have passed for all other schools.
  16. Oh I am!! (nudging my kid) I can't stand it. But said kid doesn't seem to care all that much, honestly. And it's time for me to step back and let kid handle it... Once in a while I come here to live vicariously through your various posts and dreaming about the day I get to post mine.
  17. Still waiting.... Child applied to two universities, one was meant as a backup and was considered a sure thing, the other one. more prestigious, is not a given. Well, even the backup is not giving an answer! So we're starting to stress. And I don't get it. With an 800 in math and 710 in reading on the SAT, a 4 on AP chemistry and a 5 on AP physics, a GPA of 3.48 (out of 4) and 3 AP courses this year, we both expected an easy entry to the backup university. And it was hard to look elsewhere. Both of these universities are local, same city, and will cost about 3K/year each. Yes 3,000$ a year. It was hard to justify applying elsewhere. Still waiting, sigh...
  18. WHOOHOOO!! My own child decided to forgo MIT completely. Not being US resident, nor US citizen really lowered the chances...
  19. Still waiting here.. But our colleges do admissions later than in the States, so no reason to panic. The first deadline for admission (to send stuff in) is tomorrow. No early admission process in my country. Yet, we wait, and it's nerve wracking!
  20. My eldest hates hates hates repetition. He's done Biology in grade 9 and now AP Bio in grade 12. I've asked him whether it was a rehash of things already seen, and he says no. Most of it is new stuff. He's using Campbell's Biology and did Miller-Levine in grade 9.
  21. Got my eldest's SAT II scores. Thank for the reminder. Latin, and Literature. Absolutely no prep work for literature, and it's a subject we barely did in high school... Good marks for both though probably not good enough for the highly competitive program he wants to attend.
  22. I went to Doctor Who after Broadchurch.. Plenty of Who...
  23. I can't believe Ellie would let her son live with the knowledge his dad is in prison instead of him. If it was really Tom, then it was an accident and, being a juvenile, he'd barely get a slap on the wrist. Plus he'd get counseling. Right now, Tom is pretty much in a really bad situation.
