  1. That's what I do, and I never watched that show. I just brush with a little olive oil, sprinkle on some seasoning (I like Spike seasoning) and hey turn out nice! Garlic would be great too. Just a few slices here and there.
  2. I can't imagine going to that much trouble to steal someone's identity when you could just swipe something out of someone's mailbox or trash...
  3. Nope. One carrot? I think I've seen that recipe. Hardly worth the trip to the fridge--and there's six of us!! We *like* carrots. If I put one carrot in, it wouldn't be pretty. ;-)
  4. :iagree: The vocabulary thing is key. If you do not understand what is being said to you, you cannot learn anything else. I recall being out in public with my babies, and even in the mostly middle class area where I live, it was considered odd to talk to babies & toddlers. Why? Because they don't understand you. So, don't talk to them until they're old enough to understand? How in the world does that even make sense? If you don't talk to them, they'll never understand! Reading is great, but babies whose mothers speak to them have higher IQ's, speak earlier and use more complex sentences earlier. This PROFOUND effect of being spoken to often while still infants and toddlers sadly cannot be duplicated by reading to preschoolers. What you talk about does not matter. I never did it on purpose trying to create brainy kids either. I just could not imagine not talking to them. They're PEOPLE. I know an infant does not care about how mom is choosing short bananas for cereal and long bananas for daddy's lunch, how red apples are good for eating, but green ones better for pie etc. They just need to hear words if they're going to learn the language. So I chattered at my kids and endured the stares of all those who clearly thought me a freak.
  5. Medium sized family. I decided we are medium since there are only six of us, and this is a homeschooling forum. ;-) Everyone (more or less) does their own. I don't micromanage and they appear to be wearing clean clothes at any given time. I occasionally go on a "Where ARE all the towels?!" rampage and do a couple loads of those (after pulling them out of various hampers) or oversee the washing of bedding etc.
  6. I still fail to understand how changing your e-mail password will keep people from putting your e-mail address (which they already have) on a form? Were they logging into your e-mail and sending messages?
  7. Not sure why changing your password would help? They don't need it to have e-mail sent to you. Do you have any reason to believe someone has been logging into your email? Hope nothing more alarming happens. :-/
  8. That has got to be the weirdest thread resurrection EVER. o.O
  9. I think you nailed it--and succinctly as always! You need to write a book. :-)
  10. The micro ones I've seen. I think it would be nice to find one that took the full size SD slot. Even a bigger tablet never has one. But thanks, that's good to know.
  11. I have yet to see an e-reader with a card slot. Am I missing something? I've not even seen this on a tablet--and I've looked.
  12. Right. Cell phone companies are really good examples of this too. I did not get nearly so great a deal as the ones being offered now. Even when I (finally) went to replace my phone, it seems I missed some magic window for getting a good deal on a replacement. Also? Every time we add a phone or buy a new one we get to sign a new 2 year contract. No breaks for someone who's been a customer for nearly a freakin' decade. If we weren't so rural with so few good options, I'd switch. Considering it anyway.
  13. I sincerely doubt they care how I feel about them as long as I keep placing orders. Of course it's "good business". I don't plan to boycott amazon, but I will point out the fact that *because* we are good customers is the very reason we are not getting the promotion. Some people seemed baffled by that. They know I will spend my money anyway, so have no incentive to send me a coupon. So they don't. End of story. I can be a little cranky about that if I want to. ;-)
  14. They obviously are not giving the best deals to people who already bought several kindles. Why would they? Clearly WE are willing to pay full price. > :( I don't believe in random. I think they are just trying to bring in new kindle users--and to hell with the rest of us.
  15. My two youngest have them. They use them almost exclusively as e-readers. I don't limit them. I did just give the 13 year old wi-fi access which she knows can be yanked at any time. The youngest does not have wi-fi enabled on his.
  16. Manufactured outrage. That's the perfect name I could not think of for what he does. And can just ban the word "hater" for anyone over 12 already, PLEASE?! Gah!! You're an adult. It's juvenile. Just stop it.
  17. Could you just get solid fabrics in those colors? That would give a camo look, I would think. (Off to google rag wreath...)
  18. I've been sewing well over 16 years, and have never seen a print that was on both sides. Even a fleece print has a clear printed side. They can be printed through, but you will still have a definite "right side".
  19. That's right! OM uses it in high school. I think that is a high school text, just forgot it was Spielvogel. Worst case scenario, you should be able to get used for some time. I have a few things I'm hanging onto (older Writer's Express type handbooks) because something aligning with CC language might concern me a bit.
  20. :iagree: The math standards are a 93 page document, BUT any particular grade (below high school) is only 3-4 pages. No idea why these misconceptions abound when looking up what's covered in a particular grade would take less than a minute. :-/
  21. If MCP is not already aligned, it's probably pretty close (so messing with it would not change much). Spielvogel is a college text, isn't it? Mine are anyway. I have 6e Western Civ. 1 & 2.
  22. Even better with straws (not flexible) tape and dental floss. They can design and build bridges etc.
  23. I was referring to an earlier poster's comment about soaking old-fashioned oats or groats in the milk. But how strange that your recipe has you cook it for 5 minutes. Mine is 90 seconds at a good boil. I then have to add the other ingredients and finish quickly or I get cookie concrete. It works, but it turns out chewy with old-fashioned oats. I try not to run out of minute oats. :-/ I bet your method of letting it sit would work quite well if you keep it warm enough so they don't set up in the pan. Hmmm.... I'm definitely going to experiment with some new ingredients. My husband won't eat them because he hates anything baked with peanut butter. He likes PB--just not baked or cooked in any way.
  24. How does that work though with 1/2 c milk to 3 c oats? Seems you'd barely be able to moisten them. And the milk is usually cooked with the cocoa, butter and sugar. Will it affect anything to put it in the oats/groats instead?
