  1. i started this thread -- http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/472388-is-there-an-american-history-spine-like-sotw/page__gopid__4954121#entry4954121 --- looking for an American History like SOTW This leads me to ask -- what did you use to start American History with your kids? I am looking for 2nd / Kindy -- i was hoping to do a more general over view for a year, then to go back and dive deeper -- even just something that i read to them (like SOTW) -- i am not sure where to look in all the books and curriculum out there thoughts?
  2. when you say they are 4th to 8th grade level -- do you mean the questions and writing project ideas?
  3. We've read SOTW vol 1 this year. i really like it as an "over view" or "intro" for my younger boys. Is there something LIKE IT for American History?
  4. how do you know what your child's learning style is -- i have thought about this a lot -- but really don't know how to know what his style is
  5. i have PMed it to a buddy who knows a bit more than i do (actually i know nothing, but she does) so maybe she will have some thoughts for you
  6. he is 2e according to his PhD (she has done IQ testing with him twice) -- and it is a struggle -- i don't see too much of the gifted part of the "2e" yk?
  7. trying to breath -- I ordered this book -- FIRST GRADE -- for my son who is finishing up first grade. i am strongly considering giving him the CAT test this summer. for my own knowledge. http://www.amazon.com/Test-Prep-Grade-1-Spectrum/dp/0769681212/ref=pd_sim_b_6 anyway i have been looking at it and some of seems like stuff he can handle but some of it (like some of the money math) seems beyond him. so i am now freaking out that i have not done enough for first grade and that he is behind his peers. ........................how do you cope with the "I am not doing enough" fears escapilly when you have a child -- like i do -- who is struggling with attention and focus and other "external" challenges that are effecting school (and we are working on them) I know we could do a little more than we do -- with a lot of struggles -- and i am increases how much we do -- but now i am over come with panic i am not doing enough and he is behind

  11. ?? my 7.5 yo (Theo) doesn't know anything about where babies come from. he has never asked. doesn't seem to care (CAP asks something and he is 2 years younger). should i tell him? the 7.5 yo i mean, i answer the 5 yo when he asks. is there a basic level of knowledge he should have at this age? I mean he doesn't believe any stork myths or anything he just has never asked anything -- should i bring it up or wait (I think wait, but i don't want to be remiss)
  12. thanks i added them to my wish list so i remember them. they look like 3 boosk we might get to just read as read-a-louds ... i think they boys would like them. do you think they are on the level a 7 yo could understand well enough if they were read to him?
