  1. And I am completely heartbroken over it :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: I have literally been in tears for 2 days. At this time, though, unfortunately, it is needed. Praying this is ONLY for this year but we'll see.
  2. Yeah I have been reading through your posts a lot lately. I am going to get him I See Sam books when I order next. With those, should I just start at level 1? I know some programs you should start at the beginning. I will check out some of the other things you mentioned.
  3. So, ds 2nd grade is slowly progressing in phonics. He is about 1/3 of the way through Phonics Pathways (just learned about words like happy, funny, Donny) and is working on the -sh and -th beginning and ending then next will be -tch. I am THRILLED about his progress. Question is, this is not carrying through to his readers. He is still struggling through Bob Books set 2 (just on book 3 of set 2) This is basically cvc words and cvcc words. Mostly cvc still. I don't dare stop Phonics Pathways in order to do more reading from his readers (he can only handle so much in a day) but it seems like the readers should be getting easier for him. Also, he is still working through ETC 1 1/2 and 2. So, should I just keep going where he is in each? Is there something I can do (other than have him read as much as possible in a day-- which isn't much) that will help with fluency? Right now he is able to do 1/2-3/4 of a page in Phonics Pathway and 1 book read 2x or 2 books read once (depending on fluency) in his Bob Books (or other similar reader. We have Sonlight 1 books, he is 1/4 the way through book 1, and a few others) Do you think at this point it would be best to temporarily stop PP in order to work more on fluency with the readers then re-teach as needed in PP? Do you think I should keep on going in hopes that it will soon 'click' with his readers?
  4. She is debating. I am getting ideas just in case she decides not to stay with MFW. The rest of the kids are doing these history guides from Simply Charlotte Mason and she is not sure if she wants to break the 4 year cycle or stick with MFW. She likes AHL, but she also likes the work she would do with the guides. I think at this point she is going to stick with us with the SCM guides.
  5. My 5th grader is doing: Math-- TT6, LOF Fractions and Decimals & Percents, Hands On Equations, Patty Paper Geometry English-- Rod and Staff 5, Will start Writing With Skill in January. Working on writing across the curriculum right now, CLP Spelling Reading-- She is just reading a list of classics and books to supplement history and science. She is also in a book club. History-- Ancients using SOTW 1, MOH 1, and a TON of supplemental materials (way to many to list) Science-- Science Shepherd Life Science and Burgess books Music-- Community Bell Choir, Homeschool Group Choir
  6. What are my choices for an all inclusive English program for 10th grade? I would '*like* something to go with the medieval (2nd) history cycle if possible but it doesn't have to be. I am also considering Literary Lessons so if you can think of anything similar to that I would love to hear those recs as well! Thanks
  7. We would rather build up their immune systems naturally. The flu strain in the shot is rarely the strain that is going around. We prefer a more natural way when possible. We have never done the flu shot nor have ever had the flu (the respiratory flu, that the shot is for)
  8. We actually looked into that but it would not be covered on the option he would qualify for. (Our state has 2 'versions'- 1) for ultra low income and 2) moderate low income or children with disabilities. #2 does not cover any therapies (makes no sense when it is for kids with disabilities) But--- that was about 6 months or more ago that we looked into it. I might give them a call in the morning and see if there were any changes!
  9. This got resurrected. He hasn't been in VT for a while now. We just could not afford to go on. Appealing did not good. (we tried) We are just plugging along. He is still going to OT who is trying to work on some of the VT issues.
  10. Sorry, I just realize this was not posted on the general board.
  11. Thanks everyone! We love Apologia so I think this will fit the boys great next year for part of their Space and Earth science :001_smile:
  12. Would you consider this more of a geography curriculum or a Space/Earth science curriculum? I know it says its geography but it 'looks' like it could also double as a Space and Earth science book (atmosphere, continents, oceans, climate, plate tectonics, earthquakes & volcanoes, latitude and longitude) I would love opinions from those who have use this!)
  13. Would this fit better with Ancient history or Medieval/Early Renaissance? I am thinking about using this next year with dd. Would this be enough to be considered a full English credit?
  14. Not much outside of activities but they are in a lot of activities. They have co-op once a week homeschool group once a week book club every other week Awana every week (oldest is a leader, younger 3 are in Awana) Youth group once a week (oldest only) boys are in boy scouts every other week Oldest is in band (3x a week on week 2x the next and so on) they are in 4H every other week bell choir once a week (2 oldest) We really do not have time for much else with getting school done plus family commitments.
  15. Well she said she put it on the Bible line. Hope we don't run out of room! Just wanted to make sure we were not missing something lol!
  16. I *think* this is what I am going to do. Then I wander back over to the AO site :glare:.
  17. I keep going back and forth and back and forth. I feel like my dog chasing his tail going around in circles :glare: We will go more CM next year. (MUCH more) and I am super excited about it! But- I don't know if I want to use these history guides from Simply Charlotte Mason Or If I want to do Ambleside Online. OR- If I want to use the history guides from Simply Charlotte Mason with some of the recs from AO. PLEASE don't give me any other options. PLEASE!!!! :001_unsure: :001_huh:
  18. I would do either a Modern history study (not sure using what) or American History with a LOT of government study as you come to it in history.
  19. I agree with Ellie. My dd in Algebra still is not to the point I let her have one yet. It will come this year just not yet.
