  1. Jen, this gives me such a clearer picture, thank you!! cfn10, when we've done oral or written phonogram review, I've always said, "Write the letter that says /k/ and /s/", just like it says on the phonogram card.
  2. Don't feel guilty!! We do school from 8:30-12 everyday and then I have a play tutor/nanny come in four days a week from 1-4 just so I can get work done. It's good for the children (and me) to have time away. I used to have my dd read and I'd work while ds slept, but this left me frazzled because he'd wake up before I was done or dd would continually interrupt me with questions. So much easier to have someone there that I can trust watching them so I can focus on what I need to get done for work. I've realized that if I can get done what I need to in a none stressful way, I'm a much better mom :).
  3. Ellie, I was hoping you'd respond. I guess that I just need to sit down with my WRTR book again and really figure it out. I really liked the Spalding method and it's a good reminder to go back to the source to figure out our next step. I don't know, I figured there had to be some :D. Any other thoughts :bigear:.
  4. Thanks for the reply! So, she did more of a running list, rather than a week long list. I think that would go over much better here, hmm, more options to consider.
  5. What does your weekly schedule look like? We are just finishing up the phonograms and we are going to start working through the Ayers list after I give dd the diagnostics test. I have WRTR, Starting a Spelling Notebook and Month to Month Spelling guide, but I can't seem to picture in my head how the week will look when using WRTR for spelling. I know it can't be that hard! I think seeing a few more examples will help me to wrap my head around it. Also, I understand page 1-7 in the spelling notebook, but what do you do when you encounter a rule that isn't covered on those pages? Do you have your student copy it in the front of their spelling notebook after page 7? Thanks for you help!
  6. I agree that WTM has such reading lists, but if you want more detail, take a look at CHOLL. Laura done a great job of putting together a WTM style lit program to go along with SOTW, plus it's free :).
  7. Have you downloaded the try it for free sample? I have alot on my plate right now and I was looking to streamline some of our subjects (or rather looking for someone else to do the planning :)). The HO sample really helped me to get a feel for the program and how it might work for us. Ultimately I decided to stick with SOTW & the AG along with CHOLL. And now, I'm really looking forward to next year!
  8. I have the 1st and 2nd edition in print and the 3rd in Kindle. I like both for different reasons. The Kindle one is much more portable, so I can take it anywhere, which is very convenient. The printed ones are easier to use when I'm looking up multiple places and cross-referencing them, much easier to flip back and forth. I'd say go for whichever version you can afford :).
  9. I'll bite! You can take a CD or thumb drive with the file to a print shop and have them print it for you, but usually it doesn't save any money. The most cost effective way is to print it at home with a laser printer if you have one or you can refill the ink in your inkjet to keep cost down. Hope that helps!
  10. We used WWE2 and part of CW Aesop A, now we are back to WWE3. I think CW is great for someone who is strong in writing and knows why they are doing what they do. I'm not sure that I could implement CW with only the Core Book, it just didn't make enough sense to me. If you buy all three books, it makes a very expensive writing program. WWE is easy to use, scripted and affordable. It's the better option for our family, but you can't go wrong with either program!
  11. They are a part of the samples which you can view at the website.
  12. Yep, love it all! Every time I look for greener grass, I always come back. It's effective, well-laid out and makes total sense to my analytic brain :). Love her lectures too, SWB puts feet to the WTM!
  13. The updated version, linked above has the same information in the same order. They just updated some of the pictures and fixed links/typos. I've seen both and either one will work fine.
  14. My guess is that the 2-3 paragraphs is an end of the year goal (at least I sure hope it is, because I'm not sure we will be there by the end of 5th). I don't have my copy of WWE with me right now, but I think that it begins to teach basic paragraph form by the end of 4th??, so it would make it easier to eventually lengthen that to 2-3 paragraphs by the end of 5th. I bet that WWS will go into that even more, at least I hope, because I'm going to need some more hand holding ;).
  15. We use the WTM now, so I voted for that. I was thinking that it's a very good thing that you didn't ask what curricula have you used :D.
  16. We used SL Core 1 (I think it's now called Core B) along with SOTW 1 and then decided to switch fully to SOTW. If you are doing SOTW4 and are looking for plans, have you seen Classical House of Learning Literature? Laura has done a fantastic job of putting together a literature study and it includes a SOTW schedule, plus she's generously offering it for free ;).
  17. I know, instant gratification! Welcome to the world of pdf homeschooling :).
  18. There will be, we are currently working on getting together kits for each level and hope to have them available by August.
  19. I plan on getting them next year :). I did get a pdf AG for SOTW2 and I was very pleased with it.
  20. All my 4th grade books are sitting up on the top shelf, looking so nice and pretty. I sooo understand what you mean.
  21. We've really enjoyed Grapevine's Bible Studies. We've have their Biblical Feasts and NT Survey so far. Hope that helps!
  22. SOTW-we are on volume 3 and will do volume 4 next year FLL/WWE-we switched for a bit, but now we are sticking with them for the long haul Elemental Science-that's a no brainer :) Singapore Math-love, love, love this!
  23. Several years ago, I would have said no. Now that dd is getting older, I would say it's definitely worth the time, if you are following the WTM plan. It helps to know the parts of speech when learning Latin (or another foreign language). It is also helpful for them to have an understanding of basic grammar as they begin to write, keeps them from forming bad habits (ask me how I know that one :)). FLL is a quick and painless introduction to grammar, I really would recommend doing it, even if your unsure of the value of early grammar. You will see a payoff as they get older, at least we have.
