  1. Not the checker, but another customer told me I had too many kids, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM. I can count on one hand how many times I've directed bad language at another human being, and that was one of them.
  2. I don't mind self checkout when I'm just getting a few things, but when I'm doing a weekly shopping for a family of seven, I do not want to have to check myself out. I think this is partly because our Walmart really isn't set up for self checkout of large orders...there is no conveyor belt at those stations, just a stand meant for a few things. I already need two carts some weeks...if I had to self checkout in that scenario, I'd need a third just to keep things moving, and that really doesn't work for me. The whole process is too stressful when you have a larger order.
  3. I love everything about the Advent/Christmas season. Everything. They don't call me the Christmas Queen for nothing! It's just the day-to-day stuff I wish I could suspend over the holidays. Like, do the bathrooms seriously need to be cleaned this month? 🙂 And why do I have to cook regular dinners when I'd rather be baking or cooking special stuff? But the Christmas stuff? I can't get enough!
  4. I think makeup is fun. I especially like eye makeup because you can do so many different things with colors and blending. If I was told I *had* to wear makeup for whatever reason, though, I'm sure I'd rebel against it and hate it. Since it's entirely my choice, I wear it when I want to, and have a good time with it.
  5. I love these so much...you should write a book.
  6. We have six trees. The "big tree" is lit with multi-colored lights, the other downstairs tree and our school room Jesse tree have white lights, and the bedroom trees have different solid-colored, colored lights according to the preference of the occupants.
  7. I'm making ours tomorrow...one pie for each member of the family. Last year we had company, so I had extra pies to make...after that, this year's, seven pies will be a breeze!
  8. I am very sorry for your loss.
  9. I meant to get up, but I missed it, which I guess is ok for me, because all we had was clouds anyway. I'm really enjoying seeing all of the photos online from people who had a good view, though!
  10. Seconding this. Somehow, we had never seen it before last year, but once we did, we were hooked. I've even been making my way through a The Nightmare Before Christmas cookbook this month because it's such a fun movie.
  11. The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago is one of my all-time favorites. You could spend days there and not see everything! The Naper Settlement in the Chicago suburbs is also great...lots of pioneer-era demonstrations, and the grounds are pretty. Also in the Chicago suburbs is Cantigny Park, which has a First Division Museum and a historic house to tour, plus more beautiful grounds. We also really enjoyed Mount Vernon this summer. I think we would have enjoyed the Smithsonians more if there hadn't been so many renovations and so many rude people.
  12. We gave my oldest son a Lego Bugatti Chiron for his 16th birthday. Kind of a play on the idea of a car for the 16th, but in his case, he wasn't interested in driving yet, but loved complicated Lego sets. My younger son received a pair of binoculars for star gazing because space is one of his biggest interests. In both cases, I wanted the gifts to be something significant that they could keep if they wanted to, as a memory of a monumental birthday.
  13. I gave my oldest daughter a necklace with her birthstone on her 16th birthday.
  14. I really love reading these. I always learn something, and I laugh.
  15. If I had been a boy, I would have been Jason.
  16. I compiled all of my family's favorite soup recipes here.
  17. This appears to be happening with some Metra lines in the Chicago area as well.
  18. I bought a beautiful vanity from Wayfair, and it's a lovely piece of furniture, except it arrived damaged. In the end, they let me keep it for free, so I can overlook the ruined corner.
  19. I dislike visitations, and I HATE open caskets. I don't mind the church service, though.
  20. I get taller when I'm angry. I haven't found any practical uses for this particular super power, but it amuses my children.
