  1. We are wayyyyy behind on Science! The only Science we've actually done are from Classical Conversations and some random readings here and there. I am angry at myself for not being serious about Science for the past 3 years. It was the subject that either gets done or not and most of the time it didn't get done. This year we're doing Apologia land animals and Anatomy. At least those will defintely get done...thanks to HOD guide. BUT, we need to cram because of the standardized test next year. I need something simple but will cover 2nd- 5th grade Science. Are there any suggested books/videos that we can use to cover topics such as Electricity, Magnetism, rocks and minerals, earth sciences, chemistry, water cycles, solar system? I know it's a lot so hopefully we will have time to cover these topics and still enjoy Science. Please don't beat me up. I've learned my lesson. Your suggestions will be appreciated.
  2. I just bought the older version of Caesar English and was wondering how others do a lesson. Do you do one book in one school year? Do you space out ONE lesson in a week or one lesson in one day, including the word search. Thank you.
  3. My 4.5 year old likes to write now. I want to start teaching her cursive but don't know which program to use. I checked out the HWOT cursive but don't like the way letters look. What did you use for your child? Thank you.
  4. We are, though my daughter is not as excited as I am. She'll see the light when we take our vacations in the next 3 months (we have some short trips planned). We also like to end school by Memorial day.
  5. Starting school tomorrow. We usually start earlier because we have several short vacations planned starting in Sept. I like to be able to bank some days and not be so stressed when we're away; plus we are like to end our school year by Memorial day.
  6. Main: HOD Creation to Christ Language Arts: Rod and Staff English 5, Rod and Staff Spelling, Caesar's English I, Writing with Skill alternately with IEW SWI B and lots of good classics I find PE/Special Interest: ballet, swimming, piano, possibly art lessons I will also be teaching her basic chinese.
  7. My dd will be 5 in December. She's very verbal and likes to write. She also enjoys crafts. Is there a curriculum out there that will have craft supplies ready with easy to follow lesson plans, cursive instructions for the young beginner, living books? We read A LOT and she has an extensive vocabulary. She is always asking to do crafts and if I am not well-prepared in advanced, my mind goes blank at the spur of the moment. I need something that is ready, open and go. Thank you very much.
  8. We love this one as well. My daughter also liked the Rhyme Bible Storybook and the Usborne Book of Bible Stories.
  9. Do you know if they have samples to view? I went to the link but didn't find any. Is that what you used and liked? Thank you! My dd is almost 5 and she's always been asking me how to write certain words for her. I would write in manuscript and she would copy but I need to teach her the correct strokes. I would prefer to start with Cursive. Thank you.
  10. Little Pilgrim’s Progress is not a fun read for me. I just ordered the audio cd with dramatization tonight.
  11. Thank you for all the postings. Yes, we are still reading aloud, consistently. Her vision is fine. She's currently reading Enid Blyton's books and those have big fonts too. I just wrote down some of the titles that I want her to read this summer (she joined the library summer reading program) and told her to alternate them with her "easy" books. She does not seem to be happy with it. I am about to talk to her about incentives now.
  12. My almost 10 year old dd loves to read but she is only comfortable reading books that are below her grade level. I know she can read thicker or more challenging books but she tells me that she has not found anything she really liked yet. She likes fantasy, action type stories. She used to read a lot of Nancy Drew but that has stopped for quite some time. She has read several Roald Dahl books in the past too. She wanted The Lightning Thief so I got it for her but it's been on the shelf for more than 6 months unread. There are many books untouched just because the print were smaller than the 2nd grade readers. She is re-reading some of her second and third grade readers. Then she is checking out fairy books and big print books that are less than 200 pages. It seemed that she just want to read books she can finish in either one sitting or one day. I understand that we all need to have a break from serious readings and just read for fun but this has been going on too long. Most of her friends are already reading 400 page novels. Can I get some advice on how I can encourage her to challenge herself and move a step or two up her current choice of books? Thank you.
  13. I would be interested to know too . Thank you.
  14. We are using Heart of Dakota Creation to Christ, WWS, Rod and Staff 5 for English and Spelling, and CLE Math 5. I am still looking for a vocabulary program and possibly a foreign language.
  15. Just curious to know which product did you get? Thanks!
  16. HOD CLE math WWS Leading Little Ones to God
  17. We skipped 4the grade and we are starting with 5th grade book. It will be fine.
  18. Go to Apologia site, click on Apologia science, Zoology 1 book, click on their sample module, page 3. There is a chart. I hope it is what you are looking for. The chart is not big but it is colorful. HTH.
  19. I asked almost the same question and this is Crimson Wife's answer. I am still going back and forth about this because CE is quite expensive. We're on a budget; but just like all the homeschool moms here, we always want the best for our child. Decisions, decisions!
