  1. For those of you that have used TT Pre-Cal, how long do the lessons take? Since there are only 95 lessons plus tests, I could schedule 3-4 lessons a week and finish in the school year or schedule 5 lessons a week and get through it quicker. If the lessons take more than a hour, I will slow down the schedule. Thanks for your input!:)
  2. If you have been through the NCAA process, would you please share which curriculum you listed on your transcript that was approved by the homeschool department. Please include any advice you wish to share from your experience. Thanks
  3. Is there a trend of higher scores with a particular program? Are some programs better prep for the SAT/ACT. Does curriculum make a difference? Thank You! Marcie in GA
  4. Recently,I called NCAA and spoke with someone in the "homeschool office" about my curriculum list. He assured me that they were familiar with most homeschool products on the market. (They need the list to verify that it is indeed high school level work.) If the curriculum cannot be found online, you may need a copy of the table of contents. Hope this helps, Marcie in GA
  5. Those of you who have used MR, do you prefer the sequence of algebra 1, algebra 2 and then geometry as Firebaugh recommends? Thanks
  6. I do have an option to put her in a homeschool group class with a teacher that will be using Prentice Hall Algebra 1 if you think that will be more challenging. TIA, Marcie
  7. My oldest (who never loved math) is finishing Algebra 1 with Math Relief and everything has been great! It almost seems too good to be true! Her younger sister (who loves math/science) will be starting Algebra 1 next year in 8th grade. Can you explain why I would need something else for her since she is "mathy"? Thanks, Marcie in GA
  8. Did your child score well on the Sat/ACT math portion? Were you happy with the program? Thanks in advance, Marcie
  9. I know that LL7 and LL8 have workbook exercises to re-enforce the literary lessons....looking at the high school samples, I don't see exercises relating to the literary terms. I am afraid my dd would just skim through it and I would never know if she really understood. Has anyone used the upper levels? Thanks, Marcie
  10. Did any of you with older children skip General Science or Physical Science to start Biology? Any regrets? I have an upcoming 7th grader who will start Alg 1 by 2nd semester and has desires to do advanced level sciences in high school. Trying to map out a plan. (until now she has been reading Apologia elementary sciences by J. Fulbright) *older sister (completed General in 7th and Physical this year for 8th) will be starting 9th in the fall with Biology....should I put them together? Maybe have upcoming 7th grader read General and Physical through the summer without doing written work or labs? I hate the idea of skipping books, they really helped her older sister prepare for high school, although she is not a "science" person. How else will my 7th grader get to the advanced level courses? She has possible career goals in engineering or medicine. Thanks in advance for your help... Marcie
  11. My soon to be 7th grader is determined to finish BCM by Christmas so that she can start Alg 1. I am positive that she will get it done, she is motivated! I need help planning her science. Until now, she has read the Apologia younger science series by J. Fulbright and is reading WinterPromise Sea and Sky. She loves the Discovery channel and any show involving health/medicine. With Apologia, it states you should begin Biology when you start ALg. 1.....she hasn't had General or Physical science... What should I do now? My dd has told me that she wants to go far in science with career interest in engineering or medicine. Any advice on what to do? Start having her read through General and Physical now? Start Biology with 9th grade sister in the fall? Older sister completed these and I have the books on hand. (Oldest is not wanting to move so fast in science, so the sequence was easier to figure out) Thanks for all your help! Marcie
  12. Trying to plan how I will do our transcripts and give credit for classes taken in 8th grade. How do you show this in a traditional transcript that is broken down by school year? Thanks, Marcie
  13. I went to BJU website to look at a sample and I compared it to the Apologia book I have in my hand. Now granted, I do not remember learning ATP and ADP in high school but the BJU pages seem to make more sense to me. I believe the explanations are better. Can someone who has looked at both courses tell me more? We have used Apologia for both General Science and Physical Science. I thought I had our high school science planned out with Apologia but now that I started my "curriculum hunt", I wonder if the grass is greener with BJU dvd's. Would love some pros/cons or experience with both. Thank You, Marcie
  14. I have also been wondering about this. Do you build a course around the videos? Does it replace your spine? Marcie
  15. They wouldn't count Latin or Artes Latinae? What are the essentials that you need with the course? Thanks, Marcie
  16. Do you have your child answer all of the review questions in a notebook or do you do them orally? Thanks, Marcie
  17. I know of a few schools that are accredited for homeschoolers and you are still qualified for the hope scholarship. Veritas Schools goes through high school and is a 1 day a week school. http://www.veritasschools.com/ Faith Academy is only for ages 16 and above, I believe you go in and pick up your work, then return it 2 weeks later. http://www.faithaca.org/Georgia/index.html Hope this helps, Marcie
