So cool! I called my Hp-fan dd to come and read. :)
-
I got mine at 31 on a whim. I had never wanted my nose pierced before, but decided to get it done when we got dd's ears pierced. Mine was a tiny stud - the smallest they had. It hurt quite a bit; I fainted for a short while but then I was okay. (Keep in mind, I faint every time I have my blood drawn for a blood test; I have a low pain threshold.) Mine didn't require any special care. However, several months later, I got a cold. It was difficult to blow my nose, so I took off the stud. By the time my cold was gone, the hole had closed off. I was disappointed but didn't bother to get it pierced again.

I know what you mean. All the 40+ styles I look at feature reed-thin women. I did find some photos from this blog today: grownandcurvywoman.com She has heavy calves, but not thick ankles. She appears to use layered outfits well.

nansk replied to hisacorn's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Excellence in Lit is recommended by several people with high schoolers. -
There are three: A Plan for Teaching Writing: Focus on the Elementary Grades $3.99 A Plan for Teaching Writing: Focus on the Middle Grades $3.99 A Plan for Teaching Writing: Focus on the High School Years $3.99 You'll find all three via the link in ZooKeeper's post above.

I went and googled "tackle football" after reading the NYT article. There are several videos on Youtube that show the helmet being pushed off the player's head leaving his head to hit the ground unprotected.

Done. I am interested to know what sort of project they are doing; what they aim to find.

Talk to Me About Spielvogel's Western Civ
nansk replied to Crimson Wife's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
There appears to be a Study Guide on Amazon. Also a book companion site that was linked from this old thread. There are also sample syllabi, such as this one from Dawson CC. It may be too fast paced for your ds, but it lists some assignments that you can adapt. -
SIG online course - whoa, are they kidding?
nansk replied to SoCal_Bear's topic in Accelerated Learner Board
I believe some states give homeschoolers money that they can use to buy books or pay for online classes. -

How can I protect a floppy, softcover textbook?
nansk replied to ILiveInFlipFlops's topic in The Chat Board
I cover my paperback textbooks with plastic & cellotape. Sometimes I reinforce the binding/glue inside the covers with cellotape. If you think that will not make it durable enough, you could stick thick cardpaper on the inside covers first and then cover the book with plastic. -
I've been reading extensively about this recently. Wired mag and The NYT WireCutter have recommended both LastPass or 1Password equally. Most sites also recommend setting up two-factor authentication for as many sites as support it. LastPass is slightly cheaper than 1Password. It also has the free version for a single user, but it would be convenient to have all the family members' passwords in one account. @Laura, can you please share more info about browser extensions being less secure? I have not come across this info. If you don't use the browser extension, then how do you access your passwords?

If you continue with WWS2 this year, can the other co-op kids join in? Can you bring them up to speed over one or two sessions and then start WWS2? -

What an incredible story. So glad she is safe and back home. -
S/O what glasses do you recommend for everyday use?
nansk replied to SamanthaCarter's topic in The Chat Board
Why did I think this question was about eye glasses?! LOL. Ikea makes colourful plastic children's tableware, which my dd and her friends loved. After she turned 10, I got rid of all plastic tableware and boxes and switched to glass items. -
What dishes do you recommend for every day use?
nansk replied to Night Elf's topic in The Chat Board
The Ikea OFTAST set of plates and bowls is white, tempered glass, light weight and very affordable. It feels just like Corelle's plain white set. -
It is Excellence in Lit. OP, EiL is targeted for high school. So you can safely wait a year to resume it. From what I've read, it does not teach how to write essays in literary analysis. So before you resume using it, you can detour into an essay writing curriculum (such as Elegant Essay suggested above). If you want a specific resource to teach Compare & Contrast writing, consider Sharon Watson's affordable ebook.
