I hate this about my native culture: people tell each other they are too fat, too ugly...Last night on the phone my middle school classmate told me his impression of me was outstanding student, very kind-hearted, not good-looking (ugly). Granted, I did ask him what impression he had of me first. It still stings. I know all along how people in my native country think of me. It stings to hear it. So very glad my American dh praises me beautiful every day and my Maker thinks I am beautiful!

  Dh's aunt (Filipino) said "You're fat." I thought, but didn't say, "You're rude." It's not easy to hear.

  My student who was a doctor told the English Department of the universally I taught at that if any teacher needed plastic surgery to enlarge their eyes, she would do it for free. I am the only teacher with very small eyes.
  
  My sister's coworker adviced strongly that I had my eyes enlarged and nmy flat nose heightened so that I could find a husband.
  
  The worst is my brother called me ugly, good for nothing.
  
  I took years to get over the hurt. It took me coming to know Christ...
