  1. My oldest ds has always used Saxon. He used Algebra I in 7th, Algebra II in 8th, Advanced Math in 9th and first half of 10th. He is currently taking Calculus I at the community college the second semester of 10th grade. He is doing very well. There were no gaps in between what he learned and the new material he started at the college. If your student is doing well with it I wouldn't change a thing.

  2. Saxon has worked great for us too! My oldest ds has used Saxon all along and is now taking Calculus 1 as a sophomore this semester at our local CC. I was nervous about the transition, but he has done really well so far! He used Advanced Math as a freshman and the first half of his sophomore year.

It's frustrating when Saxon gets bad reviews here on the boards, but there is proof that it works.

  3. I used to sell and buy quite a bit here. However, now it's like starting all over. I had a great feedback score, but with the board switch that has disappeared. The feedback was one of the reasons that I liked buying from here so much. Honestly, I am hanging on to most of my stuff until our local homeschool sale in May. It just seems easier this year.

What?! I didn't know the feedback was all gone. I had a great score. :glare: I usually sell a lot of my stuff March-June on this board, but maybe I'll have to reconsider. Maybe I should sell at my state conference this year.

My son raised his score 35 points, from a 199 in 10th to a 234 in 11th. After we received his 10th grade scores, he started taking one practice SAT a month, usually just one section at a time. About six months later, he worked through Barron's SAT 2400. Then he continued on with the practice exams, this time under test conditions.

Thank you for this information! It's helpful to see what has helped others. I'll definitely have him do some prep work for his junior year.

  5. My son's score increased 22 points. He does little prep for it (despite my encouragement). You should be able to get the test booklet back from the school. That would help for preparation. I'm confused about the 112 & 115. Do you mean 212 and 215?

Yes, I meant 212 & 215. Sorry for the confusion! That's good to know that it's possible to raise his score enough to make the cutoff. I plan to get his test booklet from the school. He didn't do any prep this time because I just wanted to see where he was. Thanks for your response.

  6. My two youngest will be getting braces next month. They just got x-rays yesterday. Our insurance will pay for half of the total up to $2500. We have worked out a monthly payment plan with them. We will put $1000 down and then pay $216 a month for 18 months. We already saved about half of that using our flexible spending account for this year, and the rest will come out of our 2013 account. My oldest had braces two years ago.

Even with decent insurance it will cost us $7500 for all three boys in the end.
