Advice for a 7 yro who will not sleep
presley replied to ....'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
This thread has been helpful to me tonight. I have a 7-year-old daughter that won't go to sleep either. I think partly not sleepy, doesn't want to miss anything, excess energy. I've never considered food dye. I'll be checking into that! Melatonin does help but I try not to use it every night, not sure why not though. OP, good luck with finding something to help your daughter and all of you to get more sleep. -

I've caught some of the shows before on the History Channel and noticed there seemed to be some discrepancies for drama's sake. It's been a while though, can't remember what it was in particular. How accurate do you think the books are? Thanks! -
How many breaks would you give a six yr old/first grade

I like your style! I wish I would have experienced early elementary that way as a kid :) -

Well, you can always report the abuse. There's a link at the bottom of the page :) -
When your kid is a master negotiator...

Thanks Melissa. I'm gonna take this one off the thread because I have seen God do SO many amazing things in our marriage and parenting. He works all things for good and is trustworthy :) -

is toothpaste really needed??
presley replied to kfeusse's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My dh and I are discussing stopping the use of all fluoride products. Maybe we will try stopping all toothpaste altogether. What would you suggest then for breath freshening? Has anyone used fluoride with their children when young and then find their permanent teeth have become very stained and brown-looking. I am so afraid that it is permanent on my daughter  -
You always word things so well, Bill. That were my impressions of the student textbook (didn't see the TM). 'Insanely busy' describes it perfectly. Like our kids today need any more overstimulation :glare:

Anyone blogging about Drawing With Children

We have recently started DWC here as well. We've done the first few warm-up exercises only and my daughter is enjoying them. I'm looking forward to learning from it as well as I have zero art talent. Don't know if you've seen this link, I believe I got it from this board. file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/Desktop/Education/draw-w-children%20lesson%20plans.htm -
That's great! We are using something for language/reading called "Treasure" too. Don't know much about it yet. We're also using EnvisionMath. Is your son excited? :)

Sounds like a great plan you have going. We're only on our second week of ps 1st grade but the afterschool tired crankies have already hit. I had an afterschooling plan in place but can see that I'm going to have to be much more ebb and flow, with 10 minutes one day, none the next and an hour the next, etc. That will be hard for me. I like to follow the plan! ;) Most of the stuff you mentioned is the most important stuff to me too with Bible added in. We're not doing any extracurricular activities and TV time is cut way back here too. One thing I'm noticing is that dd is really seeming to enjoy an hour or more in her room every day playing school with our cat :D I'm glad she has alone time to decompress and process things.

advice: inexpensive casual dresses
presley replied to warriormom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Very cute dresses, but way too short for my taste. I'm a knee-length or longer kind of gal now. -

Hi roadrunner, My 1st grade daughter will be using EnvisionMATH in her class too here in Nashville. I looked up the same review as you posted and found another at the link below. (Edit:Oops, sorry Breann posted this above already) http://soundmath.wetpaint.com/page/enVisionMath I looked through both books VERY briefly at orientation and was not overly impressed. I'm not strong in math myself and I REALLY do not want my daughter to start out with a bad taste in her mouth about math. Anyway, right there with ya. Please share any tips you may have as the year progresses.
