  1. Drago's (grilled oysters that are the best!!), Crazy Johnnie's Steakhouse (have a fabulous filet mignon po-boy for lunch) and Morning Call (where the locals go for beignets and coffee) all of these places are in Metairie. Jacque-Imo's on Oak St fun place, great food, be there early, casual. Snug Harbor has great food and great jazz. Crabby Jack's is Jacque-Imo's lunch place of Jefferson Highway. Great po-boys. Those are my personal faves. Missing my Nola food.:drool: Have fun!! Anissa
  2. I have the Grocery Gadget app and love it. I can make a list and my husband can see it online or on his iPhone. :D It is supposed to learn your shopping habits and there are different ways to make your list. I not sure if there is an aisle listing or not. But, I really like it. Anissa
  3. Hello, I am doing Yr1 Redesigned with a D and a UG. I am so excited! So far Units 1 & 2 are in page protectors. :D We will probably start the first week of August. I like the idea of a week of review and then getting started with work. Good Luck, Anissa
  4. My dd9 is a procrastinator. She doesn't want to do her work. She just wants to be able to go play with her friends all afternoon without doing school work. A kitchen timer helps keep her focused. I really have to be on the ball myself when we are using the timer. We go over her math lesson and then she has 30 - 45 minutes to work on her math. If it is not finished, (and we don't stop the timer when she has to go spend 10-15 minutes in the bathroom) she has to put that aside and move onto grammar. She will have 30 minutes to finish that and so on. The time thing is hard for me, but ds11 is much better about keeping focused. Even with the littles running around wanting this and that.
  5. It makes me feel better that my ds is not the only one that is doing this. I have been asking myself the same question. Do I move on or do I park until he is not making the careless mistakes? I have ordered a copy of Lial's Basic College Math to see if he just needs more directed practice in certain areas. He says that all the little details are too much to remember. Sometimes I feel like we are skipping around to different things quickly. Maybe it's just me.
  6. The DVDs add so much to help me be able to teach my kids to write. Even my husband learned somethings that he has used in his papers for grad. school. My ds and dd (6th and 4th) are not good at writing (yet), but they enjoyed the student sections of IEW. It has given them a place to start. They are not a excited as your kids, but maybe one day we won't have any wailing and crying over writing. It is lessening after working with Mr. Pudewa.
  7. ian. My name is Anissa. My 3yr old ds wanted to type his name first. Our homeschool journey began 4 years ago. This is actually our third year of homeschool. Katrina threw a kink in what should have been our 2nd year. We spent a year in my hometown in MS 300 miles away from Dad. A friend recommended that I read WTM and I was hooked. I have been using more Sonlight the last two years (for ease of use with a newborn and toddler running around), but I am planning the high school years with WTM and will let my littles fall in wherever the olders are. I have lurked on the board for the last 3 years, but not doing much posting. Thank you for all of your information, opinions, and advice. You have answered most of my questions and concerns without me even having to say a word. I have been extremely grateful to all of you.
