  1. Just for the record, according to the RFWP website: "Homeschooling parents should be aware that although the Royal Fireworks Language Arts Curriculum by Michael Clay Thompson is intended for very gifted students in a school setting, it can be used with most children in a home setting. This is because homeschooling is so productive in developing and nurturing the abilities of children."
  2. My brother and his family are doing this very thing. They are about nine months into it, but you can go back to the beginning. Here's their blog: http://thewidewideworld.com/
  3. We love Mavis Beacon. She's so nice and encouraging.....really!
  4. Really? This doesn't have anything to do with making teA, does it? just kidding, just kidding!! Well, for all of us who thought we knew how to make rice, but missed the post.....what's the secret? Oooooh, and did someone say breakfast rice??
  5. I love cilantro! I use it in many things, such as: black bean salsa pico de gallo tortilla soup carnitas beans and rice enchiladas quesadillas marinated chicken or steak cilantro-lime basmati rice curry coconut chicken soup black bean soup lentil soup
  6. Sometimes I get legos in my vacuum.....oooops! If I had a blog, I'd call it legos in my vacuum. Seriously, though, we do the king size fitted sheet for dumping them out and bins for storing them. Regardless of what we do, they are everywhere! Ever wrongly step on one barefooted, in the dark, on your way to the kitchen for a glass of water at night. That hurt! The dag gone things can cut your feet if they catch it right. I've even got them in my car. I know some of you will suggest enforcing some kind of rule about the loose legos, but I've kinda just accepted this stage of my life right now. Where's the oddest place you've found a lego?
  7. Oh my gosh! It is hard - I feel for you! This week I received my ds(6) test results - He scored off the charts for eggs wheat gluten peanuts citrus soy honey oats all dairy He's eating rice, beans, what little veggies he'll take at this point, fruit (except for citrus) and some meat and potatoes. He doesn't like fish. No more typical breakfast foods for him. And treats of any sort must take on a new definition. I hope he feels better, though....and you and your kids, too, especially if food was making you all sick the way it was with him. I hope the rest of your results provide good news. :grouphug:
  8. The Mavis Beacon program we're using does not expect you to start with words and sentences. My kids are starting with home row keys and drills. It's working very well. It's version 10, btw.
  9. Rummy Roots? Although, it's more of a game. http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?sku=51798&event=AFF&p=1023668
  10. When you say she's already struggling bad with it, what exactly is happening? Is she getting them all wrong over and over again? Is she making any improvement from one day to the next? It can take quite awhile to move on to the next lesson. Yes, the words can be hard. It's suggested in the program to get 100% twice before moving on to the next lesson. In order to do that, it may take 10 times or more - and that's ok as long as your child is ok with that. This method works great for my auditory learner (5th grader). She doesn't mind doing the lists over and over again until she get's them right. I've also noticed that she's spelling much better in her other work she does (we've tried many other spelling programs). But, this program really bugged my natural speller (3rd grader) who might get one or two wrong and would hate to have to write the whole list over again. I guess it really depends on the child.
  11. Excellent! Thank you for answering my question!
  12. This may have already been answered, but, yes, there is a test for this. My ND ordered a neurotransmitter test through ths lab - https://www.neurorelief.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=section&id=12&Itemid=46 But, I really don't know how accurate it is. Just thought I'd mention it.
  13. There are so many versions.....does it matter which one we use? Is the newest version the best for some reason? thanks,
  14. Hi Karla -

Are you the Karla from GS? Willa used to be in GS w/your daughter. Well, I just wanted to say hi!

  15. I've heard a lot of talk about what people have not liked about Harvey's. It's been said that it's too intense, unnecessarily confusing, too archaic, not in-line with modern grammar and usage. There must be something to like about it if the CW people are so highly recommending it and incorporating it into their program. Where are the people who like it or even love it? What do you have to say? thanks!
  16. Interesting. Right now I'm wondering what I'll use with Homer. So, Ellie - what do you use for grammar? Just curious. thanks,
  17. Thank you msjones - and Paul, I think you hit the nail on the head. You put to words exactly what I was thinking, anyway. I do think, though, that it's also important to recognize and feel my full range of feelings - I'm human after all. Only when I dwell in those negative feelings, when I get stuck there, I have to realize that I've made the choice to do so. Sometimes that may even feel like a comfortable place to be. But, ultimately, it's my responsibility and desire to choose happiness instead, no matter what my circumstances may be. Is this what we are talking about? Sorry if I got side-tracked....
  18. Hi Tara - I'm so sorry you all are going through this. I just wanted to recommend this lab for the most thorough lyme tests: http://igenex.com/Website/ Hope you find some answers soon!
  19. ooooh, Mindy! I love it! It looks like so much fun! And, Sugarfoot - I'd love to see pics of that playroom - it sounds so cool!
  20. We also use the Ikea storage system that was mentioned in a previous post - for both Legos and Playmobiles. My kids like to dump the entire bin on the floor in order to search for just the perfect tiny piece.:glare: Yes, the pieces use to end up strewn from one end of the house to the other and beyond.......until we instigated the use of the king size fitted sheet. If you're going to dump, it must be in the sheet and it must stay in the sheet! This is sooooo easy for clean up - and they get to rummage freely through all the pieces.:001_smile:
  21. Aesop's Fables make an excellent source for secular copywork.
  22. I don't think this is weird at all! Yay! for your high-five! And, it's my opinion that one does not need to be religious to accept and believe in high-fives from heaven. I also believe that God/the Universe/A Higher Power/the Great Mystery/Love/whatever you want to call it or not call it - It's always working in our lives whether we believe in it or not. Belief is not a prerequisite. But, awareness and acknowledge of these high-fives sure can bring us a warm and connected, happy feeling. That's lovely, Astrid, what happened. There are no coincidences.
