  1. Thank you all for your replies. I have checked out the PA HS laws and they don't seem so bad. If fact I think here in Va is too relaxed so I don't mind. Thank you! kate
  2. We are thinking of moving to York pa...is anyone from there? We are looking to buy and have found some cute homes in the york suburdan school district. Although we doesn't need to school we would like to have a option if needed...any thoughts? I believe the township is spring garden.....my hubby and I plan to drive up shortly and do some looking and research but I'm not that patient :) Thank you!
  3. oh man...:001_huh: that looked neat but it says the site is closed.... weird
  4. Hey is there a social network for homeschool kids? One where my daughter can safely chat online, meet other kids and such? my daughter is 11 am would like to use the computer more and meet other kids online safely. Is there such a thing or way to do this? thanks, Kate
  5. Jean, thanks... that is a good point... we don't mind the long run medication costs & such.... its just that right now we are a bit over our heads with bills.... so we have had pets in the past that required medication and large vet bills but it was never a real issue for us... but now we are a bit upside down with expenses so hopefully this will work out to help us at the moment... I will have to look in over with my hubby though :tongue_smilie: thanks again!
  6. ok... thank you all for your replies.... I think we are gonna check this out and see how we can get her all fixed up..... thank you!!!!!
  7. my cat has some issues with her bottom being inflamed, her paws are real smelly and now her eyes are junky.... I had taken her to the vet a couple of months ago and he said she had an inner immune disorder. i gave her the meds, etc and she was fine after a couple of weeks.... not she is even worse and I dont know what to do ... the vet wants to run all these tests and after talking with local friends they have said to stay away from this vet because he likes to ring up the bill.... I have since heard of another vet with great reviews and want to send her there .... however I have so many family cost going up right now that i can't afford it at the moment.... (both cars are breaking down, my hubby has some medical things going on and other financial things) I was looking into Care Credit to see if this would be a good solution for the vet bill but wanted to see if anyone else had used it or what you might have heard..... So for rambling :glare: I'm a bit flustered right now.... Thank you!
  8. I would post a "lovely" sign that says how the apple tree is owned and is not for residents (without permission)... I mean I see where a kid might grab one as they are walking by but the whole side? Insanely rude! you might even write on the sign how you would like them kindly returned (i am only half joking) next year I would put one of those tree nets around the tree with a lock on it just to prove a point.... This was rude and done on purpose and I can't stand how rude people are now... One of the main reasons we moved far away from people...
  9. This is funny you are posting this...as my dd is currently using this resource. My dd is using BF Ancients guide and she was able to outline very easily with this book... however if you but Kingfisher in front of her she looks at you like a deer in headlights  then comes the waterworks! The only complain so far from her is that they are long chapters and she finds then boring... however if I put a living book in her hands she is good to go.... :001_smile:
  10. We have really enjoyed and have learned a bunch from Visual Latin.... It is downloadable and so affordable... you can also try out the first couple of lessons for free... My daughter enjoys working on her latin lessons...she watches one old and one new lesson and then completes the worksheet. We are able to do this 3 times a week and it has worked out nicely so far.... it's worth checking out.... Visual Latin my 2 cents ;)
  11. have you looked into visual latin? my daughter and I just started and love it.... in fact we were driving with my dad the other day and she was going on and on about all things latin! building sentences and translating and explaining every detail! The lessons are short and simple... we watch one "old" lesson and one new and complete the corresponding worksheet... easy and they are so affordable.... you can try there lessons before you buy.... Just thought I'd throw that out because we are enjoying it so much and getting results fast.... Also the teacher is kind on dorky funny and my daughter cracks up at him...
  12. yes all the books look great.... i wouldn't need to make may substitutions.... Really? no one has used this for logic before? no thoughts on been there done that?:glare:
  13. I was planning on using HO but now that I really look at it I don't like the spines and also don't want something that is secular. After looking at the samples and the books used I like how this is written. I like the questions asked of the student and the daily/lesson break down to help with scheduling. Anyone use this for the logic stage? I have read that others have outlined streams of civilizations so I plan to add that and a couple other literature books. in addition, planning some fun projects... Like a plaster of paris mummy mask :) What about the geography? is it sufficient? or should I add Map Trek ancient? Okay I'm rambling. If you have used this or plan to, what are your thoughts?
  14. I don't have a reply but wanted to say that your husband sounds DREAMY! Wish mine would just hand me my purse and say "just buy it already:D"
  15. I was completely set on classiquest but then elemental Science came out and really changed my mind... I like how it has more hand holding for the teacher and also LOVE that she already incorportated a Science Fair Project.... This was something I would have had to add with classiquest (not really a big deal- but with my crazy schedule its one less thing for me to do) I like ES lay out better and the extras she offers. and after looking at prices I think I can come out of ES a bit cheaper. I so excited.... Thinking of starting this summer and having my daughter's best friend be a lab partner....
  16. Here are my plans so far. Some things we are already working on.... Some I'm adding this summer and others just planning to start for fall. Math: Math U See History: History Odyssey Ancients level 2 Science: Elemental Science Logic Biology Reading/Literature: in addition to books used in HO….I chose a couple books to use with the some free study guides I have accumulated over the years: Anne of Green Gables Where the Red Fern Grows Misty of Chincoteague Island of the Blue Dolphins Bridge to Terabithia Spelling: Spelling Workout F Grammar: Saxon Grade 5 Writing: either Saxon 5 or IEW ancients Bible: Who is God & Can I Really know Him? John Hay Balancing the Sword. Allen Wolfe -maybe BSFAA- Advanced Activity pages Logic: Mind benders Latin: Latina Christiana I Art: Artistic Pursuits & maybe adding in classes Music: may start up guitar lessons again
  17. After looking over the new sample.... I feel even better about it.... I love how you can dive more into the subject with additional experiments.... Also LOVE that she added in time and resources for a science fair project... Great idea.... Now to print myself and bind or wait for printed copy ... decisions decisions....:D
  18. I didn't realize it already was out.... Awesome. I've been wanting to use this or ClassiQuest Science. Is there not going to be a print version? only download?
  19. I voted for full time full ride. However this is for my dh and I NOT our child. We both are in college full time at our local CC. We received the pell grant and it has paid for our tuition and books, etc. We paid for our books out of pocket (saved on older editions and used copies and we share books for 2 classes that we are taking together) we were able to use the extra money for laptops that we desperately needed. What a blessing!
  20. Not sure if this is what you are looking for or not....Jason Project or this? Good luck :)
  21. YUPPERS! I tried to use programs with my dd but it never worked.... It brought both of us to tears.... Finally I just gave up. I had her choose a book and we went from there... She loved Pathway readers and when ever she came across a new word I would tell her what is was and why it made the sounds it did and we went from there.... Her reading picked up so fast from there .... She now LOVES to read! I can not stock her bookshelf fast enough! It may not work for every kids but it sure did for mine.... We had tried OPGTR, bob books, hooked on phonics, MCP phonics.... can't remember all the others but there were a bunch... My 2 cents... Good luck! Kate
  22. Awesome! Thank you ladies!:001_smile:
  23. I am about to purchase MUS for my dd10. She has not yet mastered multiplication and just freaks out over simple division..... Would starting her out all the way back to Gamma be a bad idea? I really think the videos and the block will help her understand math better. I try to explain but she just gets frustrated. I don't think I come up with the best explanation either. We tried using TT4 and although she completed it.... she didn't master the concept and she forgot it all. Any thoughts? Kate
  24. Last year we purchased a Baby Taylor for our dd"s Christmas present... Even though it is a beautiful guitar and a nice size for her then.... Her guitar teacher said that after about 11 they should be using a regular size guitar.... However my biggest concern is that the guitar was delivered to us damaged. We have contacted Taylor several times and they have not gotten back with us.... I am very disappointed that we spent $300 for a damaged product that I needed to pay another company to fix it.... Just my 2 cents and experience with Taylor...
