  1. I read my daughter your response and she agrees with everything you're saying! Three chapters a day it will be! And thankyou everyone else for your reminders about bedtime reading. We've done that a little in the past but I think we'll reinstitute that as well!
  2. Your last statement about her being athletic and just not interested is spot on. I suggested having bubble gum available for reading time and she lit up and says she's actually looking forward to reading now! Thankyou!
  3. I've been requiring 30 minutes from a book I select and 20 minutes of additional reading daily. My daughter feels this is too much, so I'm just curious what the rest of you are doing at this age.
  4. Oooo....edible weeds! She'd love that! Thanks for the ideas.

  6. The science curriculum we started the year out with flopped. We're moving on and my daughter is requesting that we study plants. She's very hands on and I think she's wanting to grow things herself.....probably lots of things! She's had a small garden in the past so it's not a new concept to her at all and with spring coming, the timing seems ideal. But we need some structure. Any curriculum or ideas that we could work off of?
  7. I did use EIW with one of my 6th graders. It's in the back of my mind.
  8. My 4th grader does decently with writing, as in she can usually think up what to say and get it on the paper without struggle. She doesn't LOVE writing, but is generally okay with it. However, the more hands-off I am with her, the more positively everything goes with school. So online or independent-style curriculum is always our friend! Any suggestions as to a writing I program for her this year? Up until this year I've just had her write short paragraphs from writing prompts.
  9. What do you consider to be the educational priorities of 4th grade?
  10. So many wonderful suggestions here! Thankyou! Some if it's in my Amazon cart now. Loving the looks if the Beautiful Feet curriculum in particular, but so many good pieces from the others too!
  11. What would you recommend for a world cultures curriculum for a 4th grader and tag-along kindergarten? I'm looking for something that will spark there interest in other places and the realization that not everyone lives as we do.
