  1. Thank you. This explains it much better than what I was trying to say. All in all, the affirmation is just one guy's way of trying to empower them. It's nothing new or unique or expertly written. I tried google with no avail, but I think I remember Ta-nehisi Coates saying something similar about ancestors existing for them in an interview a few years ago.
  2. Possibly, but in a significant part of black culture, it's referred to as being royalty. In a Christian context, it's being a member of the royal family of God. He chose the word on purpose.
  3. Maybe, just maybe, it's trying to affirm a child's self worth so that they feel no need to be a part of a gang or think violence is the answer. It is not meant to literally be the answer to stopping gun violence. Do any of you actually know the purpose of a personal affirmation? It may be as productive as thoughts and prayers, but how many of you continue to give those? This is a black city council and a majority minority area with an affirmation written by a black man and meant for mostly black youth. I've been trying to thoughtfully understand the part about ancestors existing for them. I think it's talking about what slaves had to endure, what those endured during Reconstruction and Jim Crow and lynchings and the Civil Rights era and now to BLM and unjust murders today. Those ancestors tried to make each generation better, they were fighting for their future selves and families to come and to give it all up today and become a bad guy, a criminal, or just a regular person who doesn't care is in a way disinheriting those that came before you, maybe like abandoning your birth right. I mean, that general belief works for white Americans, too, but certainly not as impactful as they AA experience, and I do not think it was even written for white school children. We fought an ungodly war to hold out country together, yet many today still disagree on it's reasons and still some are itching to do it all over again? To me, it's just an extension, maybe extreme, of saying we should not ignore our ancestors' efforts.
  4. The part about royalty is also pertaining to the Bible. My mother's church, with only conservative white folks and not a black person in sight, ends each sermon with a prayer about being members of the royalty family of God. I think it's from the book of Matthew? I also think it was just something the city council decreed, the ' official affirmation' of Roanoke. I seriously doubt it will be required to recite it. More of a feel good thing, like when Congress officially designates a day to someone or something. Daily affirmations are a pretty big thing. I've heard of them for a long time, like the daily devotional thing, they used to sell them as books. I have no idea how it "stops" gun violence. I think it's one small thing done a a way to convince young, impressionable youth in more urban areas that there can be a life outside of the gun culture, that they are worthy and strong and deserving of something better. I don't want to see any religions or pledges or prayers in school, personally. But I can understand the feeling behind this. I can see it being used in community centers or youth groups programs. But this is also Virginia. The South. Several southern states are legislating religious stuff like the 10 Commandments being posted on every classroom.i think TX has already mandated it.
  5. If anyone cared enough to google it instead of bashing it, they'd learn the how and why answers. You can see it came from a black man as a way to lift black children up and away from the gun culture. You can also google the royalty aspects and how it pertains to many black families. I don't believe it was ever meant to be recited daily in a public school by all children, but maybe I'm wrong, as I can't find that information. You can still disagree, but at least know what you're talking about.
  6. Yes, that looks totally unsafe. I'll take a wild guess that the state you're in probably has zero regs about things like this. Looks like it's already had a decent fire in it once, guess they don't care. I know you're stuck between a rock and a hard place, but I'd have no confidence in this hotel regarding fire alarms, for instance. I'd just unplug it, get mine from storage, or buy the smallest cheapest one I could manage if absolutely needed.
  7. I think our Congress needs to figure out how to use the term whistleblower. If all a person has is hearsay, that's not whistleblowing, lol. Not saying we're alone in the universe, but this guy has seen no pics, seen no emails or texts or reports or bodies or space craft. Don't they have anything more important to hold hearings on besides attempting to brainwash us that all gov't does is lie to us??
  8. I remember a PBS show that sort of had this blend, Between the Lions. I'd forgotten about Ghost Writer, but I know even today I could still enjoy watching Wishbone and Reading Rainbow!
  9. Banned for life by NBC, protests by Americans, insults from famous actors- all because she ripped up one picture for the cause of child assault. I'm so glad to see she never apologized.
  10. I'd go to New Braunfels, TX to the Shlitterbahn water park, drive around the hill country and eat tons of barbeque and ice cream, visit Austin and check out the fun stuff there, visit a cave or 2 in the area and the bat colony under the overpass, head over to Shiner and tour the beer brewery and stop at Friday's Chicken restaurant for lemon meringue pie and chicken fried steaks. But seeing it's hotter than heck there, my second choice would be to go to Massachusetts for some whale watching boat tours.
  11. So did the spokesperson for the Dept of Revenue lie or mispeak? Because I can find no updates to this answer when I googled it. I wonder why the employee charged with that would be so clueless? The whole thing's just another dumb way for data querying. People may as well just yell " Data mine me!" https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/religion/2022/05/19/tennessee-license-plate-in-god-we-trust-nashville-drivers/9811564002/
  12. I never thought of that angle. What are some of the examples of false reporting at that time in the mid 80's? What are some examples of the media trying to blame actual memories of false reports on our brains? Really, I can't think of any, but since you wrote it can you provide any such examples? Who's editing their site and deleting data?
  13. If course it depends on the location, but even in fancy areas, as one alluded to, there are people who enjoy remaking wood furniture. If it's heavy, you may actually have an all wood piece. Oak is a dense wood. That being said, trying to find new hardware that you love also takes time and money. What's your style? If more modern, there are many Ikea type pieces. Antique or vintage? Shop around at antique shops or FB marketplace, it's easy to research the seller's home to see if you think it's from a clean place. In my area, the elderly have beautiful furniture that they or the kids are trying to sell due to death or downsizing. Getting smaller pieces is also an incentive to downsize the t shirts, too! I prefer older, real wood. Too many stores sell particle board furniture that warps and cracks and can't hold the weight that its intended for. Also, if it's mainly due to the troubles of moving them, there are probably things made to slip under them to make them slide across the carpet easier, I just do not remember what they're called. Maybe that, new hardware and/or a different mirror would work? Last of all- I did a google lens of your pictures. They may be Arbek dressers. All oak. The company's time span fits. I found some listings for 3 to $400, others less.
  14. It's not that so many people care, lol. It's not an important item in his pocket, true. It's that millions and millions of people had the album itself, back when we had actual albums in our hands and we saw the cover every time we pulled out the record. Plus a very famous photographer took the photo, and I can remember reading about that way back then. And we didn't even have to know him to remember, how about that?😜 I think people guess bandana because he wore one around his forehead in more than one video back in the 80's, I definitely remember him wearing a red bandana
  15. I use the Henrietta one, or the Geneseo one if we go south. Macedon is good, too
  16. If you go to reddit and enter her name, there's a large group. You can look for threads that seemed more 'newsworthy' or just skim them. The one Dawn mentioned seemed to come directly from one titled Updates. I mainly skim them and look for mentions of links and TT or youtube that are said to be from friends and relatives( cousins). I saw mentions of snacks and her taking a robe and how she claimed there was an abductor with orange hair and the hotel there the day before the news conference, so it's obvious some of her friends and possibly family knew what was really going on.
  17. I hate the PP one as most as much as the Horseheads. Tip- don't eat anything from the bakery there, lol. My sil works there and has horror stories. She says most of the thievery is from the employers, especially in the electronics department. The Canandaigua store was extra nice both times I was there.
  18. Why? Manslaughter means its was done without malice, iirc? First degree murder is with malice, premeditated. Apparently he had time to think about it as he reached speeds of 99mph, he saw them crash into the tree as he rammed them repeatedly, he turned and drove past them without assisting in any way. Sounds like first degree murder fits that situation perfectly. In fact, it would be insane to say any lesser degree fit the crime.
  19. I know reddit can be a hit or miss place, but the site about her seemed to have people who actually knew her, or links to people that did. They were discussing things days ago that were described today. It was said that she has done something like this more than once. It also involved arguments she had with people about an ex boyfriend or some such, and her being at the motel with another woman; there were stories I had trouble following, but possibly did happen. If this is true, then I have differing feelings about her parents. You always want to believe your child, you never want to even think about one going missing, but if she really has acted like this before, why would the mom speak of an abductor during her interview yesterday? I wonder if the police were keeping the parents updated on the info they saw in her computer searches. I wonder if her friends spoke candidly to her parents?
  20. Are you in a city that floods more so now than a few years ago, or has a lot of car thefts? That can increase rates even on older cars.
  21. But most cars lose value as they age, so the insurance companies have to pay out less. It was common to see prices remain the same and often decrease in vehicles older than around 15 years. But also people can drop some of the optional coverages on 15 year old vehicles, too, to help lower costs.
  22. I saw on reddit a summary of a 2 hour video. She supposedly has faked stuff like this before, according to friends. They were conducting their own search for her. They claimed she was driving so slow with her lights flashing because she was looking for a path through the trees. They are assuming she was at the hotel most of these 2 days.
  23. Google Mark Cuban's prescription company. I have heard so many good things about it. Some meds are even less than those at Good rx. You just need a dr prescription sent to them, no insurance involved.
