  1. Do people see how a certain poster uses the same type comments about this as they did with the Holocaust remark? If only we'd open our eyes, if only... This is a classic chicken-poop answer. They have no real answers, they will include no specific examples, they only splash what they think are intelligent words grouped together in a pretentious attempt at ??? Too bad we don't have an emoji of a tiny troll, sitting in a recliner, smoking a cigar while staring at themselves in a mirror.
  2. Unfortunately, you can look at today's New Orleans, since Katrina, and pretty much predict what's going to happen in Lahaina and Maui, no matter what their officials promise them.
  3. https://www.spacecentre.nz/resources/faq/spaceflight/moon-hoax/ Here's a nice grouping of answers for any questions a hoaxer nut might ask
  4. That's beautiful. It reminds me of some of the hills in central NY. And turbines! Are they as polarizing a subject as they are here?
  5. Yes. I've never seen Gone with the Wind, and it was made in 1939, like nearly 30 years before Space Odyssey, yet I still have heard enough about it over the years due to it's influences. Same with Titanic. I had no desire to see it, but know the scene of DiCaprio and his gf standing together. So the age of the movie isn't really a reason why people have or haven't chosen to see it.
  6. Of course not. It isn't condescending to explain how iconic a movie is. I never said it was a sort of prerequisite. In fact, I've not heard of Gerwig before this. But that doesn't alter the fact about what a huge impact 2001 A Space Odyssey has had. And as someone said, they even played the 2001 theme music at that scene, which is as iconic as the film, lol. I think the movie obviously attracted all ages. I didn't think little kids would enjoy it but apparently I was wrong. It seemed to hit people of all ages for different reasons.
  7. It says it's for 12+, wondering if anyone has used it and with what ages. Thanks https://oyla.us/
  8. Well, we've got too many of the younger generations who can not tell us who won the Civil War, so I am not surprised many didn't get the reference. But it is an iconic film that is more than just a 1968 movie. It's a cultural marker, as explained https://theconversation.com/2001-a-space-odyssey-still-leaves-an-indelible-mark-on-our-culture-55-years-on-209152#:~:text=2001%3A A Space Odyssey is,filmmakers but society in general.
  9. Spilling a bit of gas on your car won't cause damage to the paint, but if it happens multiple times, and you don't notice it or wipe it off, it is possible for it to damage the clear-coat on top of the paint. It can look more dull or worn.
  10. The rest areas in PA still are wonderful like that and clean. So are the ones on the MA turnpike.
  11. Buc-ee's has some sort of odd hold on people, lol. They've got very clean restrooms, gobs of fast food and lots of tacky gifts. I suppose that's it. As to the bathrooms being non accommodating for mixed genders, it may help to know the TX based owner is a huge fan of Gov Abbot, has given well over a million the past 2 years or so, and we know the bathroom ideology they have. Yes, this is political, but that's the truth and it does explain why they'd not consider a mixed type of restrooms, given they already use the nice locked stalls. Maybe once they expand into more states ? There are times when I am just happy to see any restroom open. The county and state parks near me close them after Labor Day, even though the parks stay open year round. I can understand it being labor intensive to maintain during winter, but autumn? People love to hike the parks in autumn, and it's a pain, literally, to know there's not one nearby.
  12. Good catch?? Lol,it's stated right in the very first paragraph. Nothing hidden if you can read. My point was that it's the most recent data broken down into states that we have, and NOTHING like the 33% someone mentioned earlier. Yes it is increasing, the study also stated that. We might also remember the 'huge effect' as you say that this increase his had on transgender bills & laws and anti LGBTQ legislation that has occurred since the pandemic. Perhaps that is some sort of legislative dangerous contagion, also? My comment had nothing to do with disagreeing with the reasons people are suggesting. It does not help to throw out such illogical percentages and rebuttals similarly as " well how many trans people did you know years ago". As of now, this discussion is merely pushback and faux outrage, exactly what is happening in our esteemed halls of government.
  13. Here's a link to one report I found. It even had the breakdown for regions and states, published last summer so I assume it's some of the latest data available. It helps to download the whole report to see all the specifics instead of merely the bullet points. https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/publications/trans-adults-united-states/
  14. I don't think this topic is affecting one third of our youth.. I believe the most recent numbers claim about 1.5% of youth 10-19 identify as trans. Another article I read said there were about 5000 youth that began hormone therapy in 2021. I haven't looked at the number of youth in mental health counseling, I'm sure that is a significant number but of course not all to do with identity concerns.
  15. My parents have them, but even their insurance pays nothing towards it. They had to pay $6000-$8000 for a pair most recently. They lasted 6 or 7 years. They tried the Costco ones and said they would not work at all for their level of hearing loss
  16. You really think certain political parties CARE about trans youth? They care about them as much as they care about pregnant women and their health, incandescent lightbulbs and gas appliances.
  17. The 'classic' thing is these 2 do this often on threads like this, lol.
  18. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/education/article/texas-am-kathleen-mcelroy-investigation-explained-18279212.php https://www.texastribune.org/2023/08/02/texas-dan-patrick-tamu-professor/ TX its making it clear what they want the state to be. They should have the guts to call themselves what they are. Regressives.
  19. I remember years ago how governors and such were trying to ban all of Howard Zinn's books, claiming all sorts of bs on how he hated Anerica. Lo and behold, so many of his chapters in those books included stories people are learning about just now, such as the Pinkerton police shooting strikers & protesters, the Tulsa race riots, northerners protesting the Civil War draft, etc. Too many of us adults still can not handle hearing both the horrid and inspiring story of this country.
  20. Have you ever watched Fear Thy Neighbor, on whatever the channel is that has all the murder shows? You're in a very tight spot. I'd be wary of calling the police every time, if they visit him each time, too. I'd be careful where I put any cameras up, though I would have them in front and back, in case he began driving or walking by on your street. I would make sure any spotlights or motion lights would not shine anywhere he could say were on his property. These type people seem to get agitated and tensions escalate. I would speak to police once to get their take in this level of potential danger and ask what needs to happen before you'd need to call them again. I would put up a fence and let it be known it's much needed for the dogs, but also build an inner fence for them. I would not let my pets walk the boundary without first checking for tossed food. If he really killed his family's cats then he could easily be the type to put poison in bits of food to be hidden on your property.
  21. I think this was before he edited his video, but this lady shows how he lied https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8Lj9KqE/
  22. So don't put pine cones in the flowerbeds! The squirrels will think they've been invited to a buffet. We have large pine trees and the squirrels sit up high, throw the cones to the ground, then gnaw on them and leave little piles of their leftovers.
  23. What??? I suppose the next thing you're going to say is that there aren't cat litter boxes in a whole lot of school restrooms for the cat-kids?
  24. They're calling them Zoom rooms. The kids will be sent there, they don't know say which misbehaviors or how many will land them there, to watch their teacher in zoom, individually or in groups. So I guess they are already anticipating more than one offender per classroom. They have not said how many adult babysitters will be hired to police the TV viewers. The books will remain and kids can check them out before or after school, on the honor system due to ridding themselves of librarians, so no problems with that! Maybe the imprisoned zoomer kids can restock the books daily as part of their rehabilitation. I am sure we can all guess which schools in HISD will be full of books and technology and all that entails and which ones will be used by the least amount of kids. It's exactly what the jerks in charge have been dreaming of, don't kid yourself. The mayor, God bless him, knows what he is up against.
  25. I stand corrected. It's a majority black council, 4 out of 7. And the city school district is a majority minority. Yet the affirmation was a unanimously approved vote, so they must know more than we do!
