  1. Historical Society Ghostwalk at Woodlawn? It wasn't cancelled, they have it every year rain or shine. We go nearly every year, it's great. We went Friday. You have to buy tickets early, it does sell out pretty quickly. I have an elderly relative that has volunteered with the John W Jones museum for years. It did rain the second night but no one seemed to care! I don't know about the ones on Sunday. If you want to listen to the stories the CCHS people will be reading the ghost stories at the museum for free next Wednesday at noon.
  2. Sorry, I'm not accusing you of anything nefarious. I am aware of your political leanings . I refuse to choose a side other than the side of innocent humans being slaughtered by both. I think you totally missed the point of my post.
  3. I'm beginning to think it does not help to use terms such as evil and demon, although I have done so hundreds of times. It dehumanizes us. We have one side calling for death to all and the other side has officials from their country claiming that the area is a "wicked city" and the inhabitants are human animals, while one of our congressmen says he'd toss them while if Gaza?? We can view videos of citizens from both Israel and Gaza saying horrific things. Who's the demon? Corruption of religion, corruption of political leaders, greed and revenge. And once again it can all be boiled down into the zero sum game mentality. If "you" get something then that must mean that "I" am without. Dehumanizing is how we teach our soldiers to kill, it's how we teach our kids to mistreat, it's how many get their supporters riled up enough to donate and vote, it's how we decide which immigrants are worthy enough to cross out borders.
  4. Yes, that was the whole point of my comment. Connotations change and we should be aware of that.
  5. https://forward.com/opinion/415250/from-the-river-to-the-sea-doesnt-mean-what-you-think-it-means/ This is from 2018, but it does the job well of explaining the origins of that statement and we can then see how it's being used now 5 years later. I think there was a similar discussion on this board recently about how meanings have changed and the need to realize what that entails. Edit- finally remembered what it was- the phrase was "blanket training". But I also think this is similar to a thread you commented on, @TravelingChris, in which flags such as the Gadsen flag was described as being offensive to many and you wrote about it's original meaning. That can be said today about the "river to the sea" historical origins from decades ago and how Hamas has corrupted it.

Before anyone starts objecting to my statement, let me say that perhaps if there was original concern for the right to not live in an occupied land, then this pressure cooker would not be exploding now, and perhaps, just perhaps, there would be no Hamas terrorists in charge There is an excellent book just released about a father amd his son. It's written by an Israeli Jewish journalist. I am only partway through, but have read the long essay he previously wrote about it that can be seen online. More Americans need to be aware of what the daily life is like for Muslims, Jews, and Christians in Israel. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/oct/12/a-day-in-the-life-of-abed-salama-a-palestine-story-by-nathan-thrall-review

Of course. Any decent human can understand both to be true. A person can be pro- both sides of civilians while feeling outraged at the governing bodies. People do not have to pick a side, no matter what the media or leaders and propoganda tell us years after year, war after war, slaughter after slaughter

It is inhumane. And a war crime. Revenge full of hatred and lack of morals. Disgusting. Heartbreaking. An eye for an eye has never solved anything.
  9. I am so happy for you! There may be minor bumps along the way, but to find a position that doesn't have you on your feet all day and offers benefits is soooo worth it! And there's got to be more choices of rentals in NO. I don't remember the details, will this still be 3-4 hours from your kids? Also, if you decide this is a career for you, there are fairly affordable MLS degrees available online that would enable you to really increase your options. Celebrate!!
  10. Yes, that's the main message in Alas, Babylon. Community.
  11. Well, from my reading of Alas, Babylon in junior high I'd store tons of coffee. And from my extensive hours spent playing Oregon Trail I'd also stock up on whiskey and bullets, but forget the chickens, they're not worth it.
  12. Jesus. You expected the two people who created the technology to save millions of lives from Covid, and perhaps millions more with the other diseases it's being experimented with, to be much better than what you've seen after how many short years?? Smh. As to the title thread- this is not being called a booster. It's being called and updated vaccination. Here's an article from last year with Faucci explaining why perhaps the vax doesn't last longer, and maybe they'll understand it better once it gets used on other diseases. https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/20/health/mrna-vaccine-technology-covid-19-durability/index.html
  13. Nah, I think the word stupid is very appropriate for those people who believe there's a zombie connection to the mRNA vaccine and the government. These nuts are in deep and believe all the other crackpot conspiracies adjacent to this one.
  14. I am known to frequent sites filled with stupid idiots but somehow missed the covid zombie connection. Now I'm sitting here giggling, remembering the It's Always Sunny episode where Charlie and Sweet Dee think they ate human meat and now have The Hunger!
  15. There's a DraftKing horse racing app. I seriously doubt there's any literary reference.
  16. If you google the question, it is claimed they are uncomfortable due to safety precautions for the neck and skull. One solution is to adjust the seat back and lift it up, I think. There are also many neck pillows you can buy online.
  17. Why? I thought they were active throughout the fall, especially if it was a warm autumn?
  18. I saw the first. Not a similar vibe, just same level of tackiness. In my opinion, it's not a show to help others, it's for voyeurs and rubberneckers hoping for more, the same as all the others. I find today's reality television to be on the lowest rung. Your " not everyone is a victim" actually is quite telling to me. So let me remove exploitation and just keep the other descriptors, lol. It's filmed on a set, it's edited to omit all the boring things people don't want to waste their viewing time on, they can't be called patients but participants( legally because of doctor-patient co fidentiality), the couples were interviewed and chosen for their problems, their looks, their on screen presence, they are given a stipend for travel-meals- childcare, and of course free sessions from a Dr that charges about $700/hour. I'd guess that some people may have found insight into their own relationship, some found it very uncomfortable, and some were there to be part of the water cooler-reddit gossip. I find the concept icky.
  19. No. I put it on the same level of tackiness and exploitation as Dr Phil's stuff, those judge shows, Dr Pimple Popper. Anything for a buck. Reality TV isn't.
  20. I agree. But it's not just " I just wanna get mine". It's also about those doing without something that benefits them if it looks like it would benefit those they discriminate against. It's a great time to mention The Sum of Us again. Some think it's a zero-sum game, when really there's a solidarity dividend that can help us all. The zero sum philosophy has been an excellent way to divide us throughout history. I loved this book, it's an easy read and one I wish was required reading for high schoolers. https://www.npr.org/2021/02/17/968638759/sum-of-us-examines-the-hidden-cost-of-racism-for-everyone
  21. I think we can all agree that perhaps there was a better choice than to remain in Congress when her health and age were detrimental, but let's not forget her accomplishments. The one that stood out to me, in which I'd forgotten she led, was her spearheading the investigation and report that the CIA misled( Lied) about enhanced interrogation and our never should be forgotten role in torture. I feel that's another truth that will not be taught in schools. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/dianne-feinstein-senator-accomplishments-firsts-revisit/
  22. If you have an elderly relative who has basic Medicare, not Advantage, it's no problem at all. No charge, no copay, just show the Medicare card. That applies to any recomended immunization as of this year, even the shingles shot.
  23. Consider yourself warned, Scarlett! 😜
  24. If you're aiming for quick, I'd get the Gardein Ultimate Chick'n Filets. Not the regular version of this brand, the Ultimate ones taste, to me, just like chicken, while their other tastes like Morningstar Farm types. They're so much tastier than even Chik Fil A, which I've never understood the popularity about. There's only 3 in a package but they're extra large and one could easily be 2 servings, cut in strips or however it's usually served with a waffle.
