I find it hard to believe any reputable organization that was having an outdoor event for children carried on with this type of forecast. A state park would have known well ahead of time bc they need to make decisions regarding public safety.

An incident like this should never have reached the level of principal & parental involvement, especially if this is high school. I can see a teacher intervening if the name callee was upset and the teacher felt she might be having an overly intense response. If the teacher knows the 2 parties are friends, I could see her trying to encourage them to work out what the issue is.
