When I was looking over the terms, it said that sports can be blacked out regionally, etc.

thanks for the suggestion. I don’t think that is the reason. It only shows one or two games per day from the entire mlb.

We live in Houston and ATT Sports carries all the Astros games that aren't promised to ESPN or one of the big broadcast networks. This is actually why we cut the cord. Our internet/cable company only carried the Dallas teams for some weird reason.

    Thanks for this info.

I am logged into FUbo. I searched Astro’s and nothing comes up. I click on baseball and it shows no games today. Two for tomorrow. None are Astros.

I tried searching at&t sports and no luck there either. I also don’t see it under guide. Maybe the trial version doesn’t offer it

I wanted Fubo to work, because I have an offer for a discounted price with them for a few months. I may end up with YouTube if I can’t figure out what’s wrong.

We have Fubo because they carry every Astros game. The service works well and we've never had an outage that wasn't due to our internet provider that doesn't always work well.

How? Where does Fubo carry the Astros?

We are doing a free trial of Fubo right now, because i had read it was a good streaming service for watching live sports which is important for our house.

We have not been able to find the baseball game we want to watch. I read your post and went to the page where it shows the baseball games showing this week, there are no Astro games either. It shows through the end of  weekend.

  3. I’m mainly bumping this for you, because I don’t have a Mac.

I do have a portable external hard drive with pictures. I simply use a cord to connect the hard drive to computer and then click on hard drive icon on computer to see the files stored on the hard drive. I open the file that contains the picture I want, and I click on it to open it. Then I can do whatever I want with the picture.

That said, I did have a “set of photo files” on my camera SD card that for some reason were set to mac mode and I had to have my daughter with the Mac do something to them, so I could see them on my computer.

im guessing my info isn’t helpful, but it will bump your post up this morning.

  4. US News has a separate ranking of national liberal arts schools. There are 200+ schools on that list.

There are also US News regional rankings for schools not on the national lists. There are 4.

    Best Regional Colleges Rankings

These colleges focus on undergraduate education but grant fewer than half their degrees in liberal arts disciplines. These rankings are split into four regions: North, South, Midwest and West.

The non-suite style coed dorms at my university have facilities like bathrooms in a home--A small room with a lockable door will have a shower, sink, and toilet.

Were there a row of these on the hall?

Sorry, Im having trouble picturing this for some reason.

I think it is fine to eliminate a school/dorm from a student’s list if this kind of arrangement isn’t what your student wants. Different strokes for different folks.

  6. I have not used it.

I agree that webpage doesn’t show much details. This one may give more info.

My in-laws liked it, however, they probably aren't the best judge for a class resource.

A quick look shows BBC also has a video series on WW2. Also check this, https://www.thoughtco.com/top-best-world-war-2-documentaries-1221219

  7. Is this community bathrooms that are co-ed? Or suite style?

I remember reading here years ago about someone‘a student whose college that had coed community baths. In that case, the toilet area (and I guess shower too) were private and self-contained stalls with full doors and walls.

  8. I’m glad your daughter has found a way to check out the schools she is interested in. My son has not been able visit any schools yet, so I’ll have him check out if his schools have virtual sessions.

When he was younger, He did go on college visits with older siblings.

DS will be applying to Western Carolina this fall. I contacted them last year asking what requirements they have of homeschoolers and was told it is just send in a transcript and either SAT or ACT scores. That's it. No course descriptions, resume, school profile, etc. They do not use the Common App so this looks to me to be pretty straightforward (and easy?!) process. However, I am curious if I should go ahead and send the course descriptions, etc has I already have them written up ready to go. Is this overkill? Their admittance rate is decently competitive so I do want to help him stand out but I don't want admissions to flag us as a problem child. He is my oldest so this is all new for us.

I don’t know anything about about western carolina, however, my homeschooler applied to/attends a university that only required test scores and a transcript; so that is all I sent. The lack of course descriptions, etc, did not hurt him, and he received a full ride.

since I don’t know anything about this school, I did a quick search. And, I guess the moral of the story is don’t believe everything you read.

    this is from campusreel.com

    Western Carolina University ACT Requirements

Western Carolina University’s average ACT score is 67. To be a competitive applicant for Western Carolina University your ACT score should come close to the average. If you’re closer to the 59, you’re likely going to have a tougher time getting accepted. To consider Western Carolina University a “target” school (one that you have a good chance of getting into) you should aim for a score of 75.

….other sources were just as confusing, and the acceptance rates given for the school range from 40-something to 79 percent.

  10. When two of my kids were getting braces, at least one orthodontist quoted both traditional and Invisalign, with Invisalign a little more. we went traditional.

Another two missed the traditional braces time, so we went the Invisalign route. Through SmileDirect it was less expensive than the traditional braces had been. YMMV as the older ones needed less work than the younger kids.

It is working as one of the older kids had a crooked tooth that was out of place and it is now in a different place, not quite right yet, but getting close.

  11. I would not notice a flag on clothes, because I have awful eyesight. So I never notice the details of someone’s clothing.

I try not to judge someone I don’t know, so I would choose none of the above on the poll.

I do have a confederate ancestor, who never owned slaves. He didn’t even live in the South, so I’m not sure why he was in the Confederate Army. He moved to New Jersey as a child from Ireland at end of potato famine. During the Civil War, he joined the confederate army. After the war, he returned to New Jersey, but he kept in touch with the men he served with.

  12. I read that as confirmation that Wisconsin gives merit scholarships.

You have said your daughter went to South Carolina with generous merit aid.

This is the common data set from South Carolina.

Number of students in line a who had no financial need and who were awarded institutional non-need-based scholarship or grant aid (exclude those who were awarded athletic awards and tuition benefits) 2,489 9,638 216
    o) Average dollar amount of institutional non-need-based scholarship and grant aid awarded to students in line n  $6,394

The way I read this, more freshmen at South Carolina receive merit scholarships, but the average freshman non-need award, $6,394, is almost exactly the same as the average freshman award at Wisconsin, $6,183.

OP, merit aid can be unpredictable, unfortunately. (Also, every family has a different amount they are willing to/can pay for college.)

remember she already has her dream And safety schools, so you are just looking for additional possibilities.

Research the schools you think would be a good fit for your daughter and then look into merit aid opportunities at those schools. I agree with  previous posters who say online calculators often don’t show merit scholarships.

I have a distant cousin, who is the daughter of doctors, who is an OOS nursing student at the University of Tennessee, which has automatic merit scholarships. I looked it up on the simply college Site and it says the average ACT there is 27, so not much below the number it gave as a Target schools for your daughter. Here is their scholarship info:

  13. Yes, Wisconsin.

I went back and checked and a poster wrote about her student getting merit aid to Wisconsin in 2019. (I happen to know another 2019 grad who also went OOS to Wisconsin and received merit aid, but I don’t know the details of how much.)

In searching to double check my facts, I discovered TWTM grads also received merit scholarships to Stony Brook, UConn, UMass Amherst. It didn’t sound like folks were impressed by the amount of the merit offered by UConn and UMass. Someone did get full tuition to Stony Brook.

I also know someone on this board has had students receive scholarships to Purdue, but they may be in-state.

I have a weird memory for details.

OP, good luck at finding schools that will be a good fit for your daughter.

  14. Congratulations.

when you make it into a romantic comedy movie, maybe the bank lawyer and seller lawyer can fall in love after being adversaries at the start of the movie.

Or, maybe you can age your kids and your daughter & the neighbor kid fall in love, which makes the shared driveway agreement work.

Seriously, I’m very happy that you will have a new, perfect house soon.

  15. I know at least 5 of those schools give merit scholarships from lurking on this site for years and from having friends with college age kids.

Pitt, Clemson, Purdue, Wisconsin and Ohio State.

I also have read about folks here receiving money from Rochester, but I’ve also seen mention of 2nd year awards being less.

I picked George Washington University to search for merit aid since your daughter is applying for another school in same area. It looks like they have some, but I couldn’t see numbers or requirements. The good news is the scholarships are good for 10 semesters.

in addition they have a performing arts scholarship, also good for 10 semesters, if your daughter is willing to minor in dance. (18 credit hours) I don’t know if the arts and academic scholarships stack, but it could be worth exploring.

if the college websites don’t give enough details about merit scholarships check college confidential and Reddit to see if anyone gives details about them on there.

  16. Your home looks great.

I’m glad you will have the kids for more than weekends as I think that will help the kids become comfortable in the new home. (I hope the guardian ad listen/court gets a clue and sees the truth of your situation and does what it can to rectify the situation.)

You have come a long way. The Hive is proud of you and is here for you.
