I am considering homeschooling my current 9th grader starting in mid-January, when his first semester ends. He is academically very successful, but miserable in the private school he started this September. It is hard for us to assess if his misery is due to Covid restrictions, the fit of the school (very heavily test-centric, which makes him anxious, even though he is doing well), or depression/anxiety that is just starting to manifest. This may be a temporary -- one semester -- homeschooling experience, so we want to make sure he is in a position to re-enter school, if desired. Both parents work in demanding full-time jobs (currently from home), so he will need to be fairly self-directed, which I think is possible personality-wise.
What advice do folks have for us? I feel like I don't know what I don't know.
