We used Apologia Astronomy last year and the religious stuff got so old I couldn't finish it and we are VERY active Christians. It's just over the top IMO.

Those of you using TOG... do you feel it covers composers/artists adequately? I am just starting out using it and didn't know if they would be covered well or if I need to do more for that area :bigear:

Thanks guys I'll join the Yahoo group. I ended up calling today and the guy I spoke with was very helpful. He said they try their best to treat everyone fairly and he said he couldn't promise me that I would agree with everything but said in his opinion there was nothing that would make the curriculum unusable to me. I think I will give it a try. I'm not terribly sensitive and I have no problem omitting/clarifying when needed :)

Also I had one other TOG ? If you were starting with 2 3rd graders one who is 7 and one who is 8 would you start with Lower or Upper Grammar? FWIW I will also have 2 kindergartners who will listen in when they feel like it.

I'm seriously considering purchasing Tapestry of Grace and am wondering if the biblical view would contradict my religious views at all. We are Latter Day Saint (Mormon) which is still Christian but do some things a little differently. I'm particularly interested in how year 4 handles the Mormons and that part of US History or if it's even mentioned.I just was curious before I put down that much $ how it's handled kwim?

Another vote for Fiestaware. We LOVE ours and all 6 kids use it every day and it has held up to the abuse. I can count on one hand the number of pieces we've ever broken and they were all broken by me and ODS not the little kids :lol:.

I was reading the Botany thread and noticed someone said they thought the Botany was the hardest of the series. This has me questioning using it next. My children I'm using it with are 7 & 8. Is there any reason not to do the Zoology before the Botany? Is the Zoology easier than the Botany?

I don't think they are appropriate for teenagers period. The unhealthy dependence, the obsession, the sex and near sex scenes... it's all inappropriate IMO.

We're going to use Rightstart for Kindergarten next year :)

I think MUS if great for a child who is not math oriented. For a child who is it is painfully slow IMO. For me the difference between Singapore and Math Mammoth was primarily ease of use. MM has everything right there ready to go. With Singapore I have to go between multiple books which is a pain. That was the only real reason we chose MM over Singapore since they both seemed to have basically the same methods and S&S.

ATM we're only using LOF and he's just zipping through all the books ( Fractions, Decimals and PreAlgebra) Then next year we're starting Algebra. I think we'll use a more meaty curriculum for Algebra and do LOF Algebra on Fridays for a comical break because he loves them.
