  1. Is it just the heating element? Soso easy to replace and appliance stores will sell you one!
  2. I actually like castles of burgundy for an easy, short game but the complaint I hear about it is that there’s no real interaction between players. Like, if doesn’t really matter if they’re there of not. Idk, I still like it 🤷🏻‍♀️ Scythe is an excellent game. It’s so good that their junior version is a solid game on its own.
  3. We are at $12.56 and it raises to $13.65 in January. Like y’all, most fast food and other chains are $15, or so.
  4. DS(7) is at a pre-pro studio and they are very, very relaxed at the younger levels while still making sure they leave level 2 with an excellent foundation. I also used to think that “better ballet training” meant super-serious classes Now I know it’s artistry and musicality in addition to alignment and strength and those are taught in age-appropriate, fun ways while the kids are young I’m only assuming your other sport, and just because a child has dance skills appropriate for one sport does not in any way mean it will carry over to the other sport. A split leap is not a split leap, so to speak. Is there somebody at your other sport that can coach her dance? eta: our dance studio doesn’t even generally start level 1 until 7yo
  5. I double checked to make sure I was correct and I was wrong - it’s now $8.99 🤢 the all-purpose flour is only $7.99 and is on sale for $4.49 if I buy 5, though, so yay!
  6. This entire thread is killing me, I can’t follow it, but I’ve lived at high altitude most of my life and this. I only recently started using the Hungarian flour when King Arthur went to $7 and it’s fine, I guess 🙄😔
  7. I would like to see if that is true of kids who are NOT required to take the ACT for graduation. The states that do require it are states that are not necessarily known for being high in education in the first place. Also, some of the “better” states have moved to requiring the SAT, meaning most kids do not even take the ACT, dropping the scores further. idk, just a thought.
  8. Robynne. My mom was one of those “unique” people ahead of her time 😂
  9. Dang, this isn’t just a zombie thread, it’s an actual terrifying zombie thread 😞
  10. I thought that they were allowed to charge you for administering it? I swear somebody here had a similar problem once. But there should be no charge for the booster, itself.
  11. For me, if there was nobody else in the car with me, I have the potential to lose my livelihood. It has been drilled into me that I am not to be alone with any child that is not my own. otherwise, I’d consider bringing him to school after calling a parent. Just thinking here, what if there was no school that day? Now I’m stuck with a kid and have to explain to the police that I was trying to be a Good Samaritan. Idk, I guess I’m glad I don’t have to worry about it. And what if it was MY kid?? Guess I’d better make sure he has access into the house because I’d be so freaked out by this. I think a better choice is calling the police. Unless there has been previous contact, it wouldn’t cause trouble for them, would it? A one-time screw up?
  12. Ugg 😕 My kid lives in Boden and thankfully is still tiny, but I just received a hand-me-down ugg hoodie and it was way, way better than I imagined it would be. (which it should be for the price!)
  13. I’m so sorry to hear that 😞 I followed her journey for a while and stopped when she was doing well and checked every once in a while and yeah, that sucks. Wish I had a better sentiment.
  14. I know I’ve said this before, but I always feel like I’m alone and then somebody here posts something that I could have written! Hugs for all of us 🙂
  15. I think you’ll have to try 4 for 3 and 2 for 3 to see which will work for y’all because it’s so different for everybody. Really, I just needed to acknowledge that although I knew your kids were HS-aged, I didn’t realize it was already college time and why does time move so quickly?? 😭
  16. If I thought my patient care was (or would be soon) suffering, I’d seriously consider the new job. That’s an insane amount of calls. Otherwise, I would value the convenience of proximity and time with my family much higher. (Tbf, I’m fully expecting to regret my life choice of never working so I can be with my kids)
  17. I taught algebra and geometry as a college student and I was damn good at it. Ok, maybe my classroom management skills were awful, but it was a private school so at least the class size was small! I hope this leads to some good teachers who just weren’t able to afford completing a college degree.
  18. The new house is a massive downsize, the floor plan is elder-friendly, and it’s next door to me, so we thought it would be a great idea. Also, once my dad died she adamantly refuses to consider senior housing. She says when she can’t care for herself, I can do what I need to do, but as long as she has a say, she won’t go. I tried using Empire and Carpet Somethingorother and one place ordered flooring and kept telling me for weeks after 6 weeks that it wasn’t in, so I went for a different kind and it never came in and when I went in to talk them, they very politely told me they wouldn’t be able to install in my house?? The other place refunded my deposit and stopped communicating and I just gave up. I think you’re right, Home Depot is the way to go next. Bathroom is a total gut - or at least a total replacement of nearly everything there. Needs a new toilet and shower, we can probably keep the vanity because it’s just gross, not unfunctional. I love that idea about finding somebody who specializes in small jobs. Most people I call never call me back, so there’s that. I swear, I’m super-nice IRL… I know! I remember that you did that and was encouraged for a minute! This started in September and was an issue then, but I think the biggest problem now is that I live in an area that had 1000 homes destroyed by fire in December and they are all trying to rebuild. At least, that’s what people are telling me 😕 I think the line of credit and Home Depot will be the best place to start. I’ve even tried Craigslist for bathroom remodel and they never come back. It’s a tiny bathroom! No weird stuff!
  19. I am 100% in charge of the money and can usually talk her into doing whatever would be best. The problem is, I have no idea! She has no income other than SS, but I also have no income. Didn’t even think about having to qualify for anything! We could get my boyfriend to co-sign if we had to (they are on the new house together). she absolutely refuses to have a roommate. Right now my daughter is living with her but she also has no income because she just got back from England. She should have enough money to pay the bills as long as she isn’t trying to support two other people. Flooring will be $12-16k for upstairs, depending on floor she chooses, $5-6 for basement. Bathroom (using not high-end materials) is about $20k, windows $3k, she will need a stove and cabinets painted. You are correct that this shouldn’t take long, but I have had ten months of people ghosting after an estimate or ghosting after refunding my deposit and now… 🤷🏻‍♀️
  20. Those are good ideas, but nobody to live with and temporary renting seems like spending more money for no reason. I like the idea of renting back, but we have no way of knowing how long she will need. This all should have been done by Xmas!
  21. She can sell her current house at some crazy price with zero repairs, but she needs to make some adjustments to the new house to live there. Like, she needs a walk-in shower, flooring (human and animal soiling), and the basement has broken windows (ok, that’s not entirely necessary).
  22. I am money stupid and since there is such a wealth of experience here, I am hoping to get at least a couple of opinions. At the end of a long story, my mom needs money. All of her cash is wrapped up in two homes because she needs to move from one to the other and she no longer has the cash for a remodel (because people kept not showing up to complete work and yet bills keep coming). As far as I can tell, we have two options: a line of credit and a loan using the equity in the house. Is there one that’s better than the other? Why? How does a loan even make any sense because you have to make another loan payment when you already have no money?? What kind of details do you need in order to effectively to help me? We probably need 100k, one home has $4-450 in equity, the one that needs the work has just over 100k. It makes sense to take it from the house she’s going to sell so it gets paid back quicker, but also, interest is <insert something special here> when you use a line of credit for home improvements? It’s not all for improvements, there’s also monthly bills. But again, how do you pay this back with no income?? Soap box moment: Please make sure your parents communicate with you an actual retirement/surviving spouse plan other than “Don’t worry about it.” Especially when you know that you will, in fact, have to worry about it eventually. Thank you!!
  23. Our neighborhood uses a service who reaches in and pulls out large bags. Once I saw that they do this, I stopped throwing small items in and wouldn’t even consider putting small bags of poop. I’ve even tried to be more considerate about how heavy I make the bags, but I probably fail at that. When I do throw small items in, they often just get left behind. They use gloves, but still. Idk. I understand it’s their job, but if I can consciously contribute to making it slightly less bad, I will
  24. I stopped eating meat at 7 because I hated it (and hated the emotional, animal-eating part). I will occasionally eat something chicken or turkey, but really don’t like the taste/texture of meat. To the point that I cannot eat an impossible burger because it is too much like my memory of a beef burger 😞 Sometimes I drop down into an anemic range, but I still don’t crave meat.
  25. I wasn’t complaining with 9 hours/yr at a state U, but some of y’all are getting dream amounts! Minor details: we don’t have to be enrolled in a degree-seeking program, good for any level course, cannot register until the week before classes, fees not included.
