  1. Elemental Science has been a game changer for us. Lots of options and you can buy a kit of hard-to-find items for the experiments.
  2. Thank you for the reply. Those are great tips. She does quite a bit throughout the week: history science reading typing spelling, grammar, literature, Latin, art, music....some are family subjects and some might be a bit long for her to write in. Like for history she listens to a chapter, imported map work, reads from encyclopedia, completes review questions or does a one level outline....so that’s why I’m a bit confused. Maybe I’ll start her with writing the things she does on her own where she doesn’t need my help.
  3. Here is the left and right pages for the weekly spread. It’s not that I’m new to using planners, I love keeping one and have for many years. I’m a bit confused with this layout and wondering what she should be writing in there. Does she use this as hen items are ‘due’.....I want to make sure my expectations are clear when I sit with her to discuss this and start filling it in.
  4. Has anyone used the student planner from Carson Dellosa? I bought one for my DD 5th grade so she can implement a bit of time management on her own. The thing is this planner is different from anything I've used before and I'm not sure what I should expect of her for it. It is set up for weekly assignments with a subject column, an assignment column, and a completed column to check mark. Any tips or hints would be greatly appreciated. I've listened Ms. Bauer's audio clip about teaching kids to learn independently but it didn't provide the answers I need for this particular planner.....
  5. I'm preparing my daughter's fifth grade year and bought Elementary Vocab workbook to incorporate. We've never incorporated vocabulary only course/program but use other LA programs (All About Spelling, Writing Revolution, Sonlight readers, etc.).... My question is how do I have her work with this workbook so that it works for her? It has 15 lists for and lots of workbook pages and storybooks to fill-in the correct words/synonyms. I'm wondering how she can study the words in a kinsthetic way that isn't just writing out the words and definitions or saying it out repetitively. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Sonja
  6. Writing Revolution came in the other day and it’s so amazing. I can see how this will help with writing skills or the future and plan to implement it with some other resources I’ve come across.
  7. That’s a good question and I think basic writing instruction is what I’ve been seeking. Not dictation, spelling, grammar, or any of those things but the writing practice itself and different forms of writing, along with fun and creative projects. I’ve not seen WTP Creative Writer and will look into that.
  8. Hi everyone - this is for all the users and past users of the BraveWriter products. I have already read all the archived and current posts but nothing has truly helped me with my issue. I have been looking into purchasing The Writer's Jungle for quite a long time, decide against it, and then come back around that may, just maybe there is something in there that would be worth the steep cost. I understand it's more philosophical without any lesson plans but that part doesn't bother me. What I'm wanting for my daughter (and other kids as they grow) are ideas for writing projects and ways to help guide my kids. My daughter tried the freewriting late last year and she absolutely hated it (usually ended up writing about how stupid it was LOL). Now she just writes her own stories and poems whenever an idea hits her until she tires of it, which is really great. Does WJ provide ideas for writing projects or is it just one convoluted speech? (which is why I can't watch her videos or listen to her podcasts - I prefer things to the point.) I've also looked into PW because I like some of those projects but two-thirds of the book is useless for me and I cannot see spending that much for ten projects. We already do spelling and she's ahead in her grammar (thanks to two years of FLL), and we do composition from Memoria Press, which has really helped her improved summarizing and dictation. I had looked into WWE but that didn't work for us because I just need something that focuses on writing ideas and projects, that show the process and help teach the importance of editing and such. Thank you for your time,
