  1. I was wondering about this....I'm the same way. I want to know why, and it may have something to do with the fact that I'm NOT a math person, so I want my children to understand the "why's" :)
  2. If so, likes/dislikes and does it work for kids who are good in math?
  3. Thanks Amy....I'm trying to figure out if my dd is "mathy" or just catches on to concepts quickly. :)
  4. This describes my dd. She told me that she was bored with her math and it's been like pulling teeth to get her to do it.
  5. What is your definition of a "mathy" child? My dd seems to be bored with math, so I'm trying to figure out if she is what everyone calls a "mathy" child.
  6. What is your definition of a "mathy" child? My dd is 4.5 and seems to be bored with math, so I'm trying to figure out if she is what everyone calls a "mathy" child.
  7. ALB.....My dd is 4.5 and we are using the same exact curriculum. ETC Book 1, HWT, Saxon Math 1 and FIAR, so I'm so glad I found this thread!! :) We LOVE LOVE LOVE Saxon....and yes, I've questioned it, just this past week I questioned Saxon Math 1, you can ask a good friend of mine...she had to listen to me!!! I questioned Saxon K when we started and one thing I learned is that you have to give it time. At first, I did not understand where Saxon was "going" so to speak, but after you get about 1/4 of the way through Saxon K it clicks!! I've tried to supplement Saxon twice and it never worked. Saxon is a very solid program. I've got caught up into thinking that I needed two math programs because so many people do use 2 math programs, but Saxon doesn't need another program to go along with it. My dd learned so much in Saxon K and now that we are in Saxon Math 1 she is loving it. We tried RS and it wasn't a good fit for us, but I did get the RS game kit. I've never looked at Miquon, so I can't say about that. My dd catches onto things really fast and could easily use a mastery program, but for some reason she just LOVES the spiral from Saxon. I figure if she's loving it and learning, then I need to stick with it. I hope this helps....:)
  8. :D...I ignore that question!!
  9. Yes, there are days that my dd wears me out. For example, the first that comes out of her mouth when her feet hit the floor is not "good morning mom", it's "are we doing school work today?" Ditto for gathering 1st grade stuff...!!
  10. LOL, it ruins my dd day too if we don't do math and phonics, which she LOVES also!!!....Right now we do 1 lesson per day in Saxon. When I get SM, we will do that 1 day, so we will either be doing school 3 or 4 days a week. My dd is 4.5 (will be 5 in August) and I can't *fill* her up with enough school!!! lol
  11. That's the only reason I didn't skip because I didn't want my dd to miss something. I did combine lessons and my dd did fine with it. Are you combining lesson in Saxon 1?
  12. Sounds like us!! We zipped through Saxon K in about 6 months and I suspect we'll be done with Saxon 1 by the end of this year. We only do *school* 3 mornings a week, but if it was up to my dd we would do school 7 days a week!!! I've purchased Saxon 2 and was wondering the other day if I could have skipped to Saxon 2 :001_unsure:
  13. I bought EB B and it was too easy. Saxon 1 is very easy too, that's why I was thinking of 1A......
  14. We love Saxon too! We started Saxon 1 about a month ago after finishing Saxon K. I was thinking that I would use SM 1A with Saxon 1.
  15. Any Saxon users supplement Saxon with SM????
  16. I was just being funny...because I have the same questions and concern. I was going to post the same type of thread as you did...:001_smile:
  17. abrightmom, Did you read my mail???? ;) I have ALL the same questions and concerns! I REALLY want to streamline....So, I will be watching this thread. I'm on the verge of dropping ETC & ASS and going with an *all in one* and PR seems to get GREAT reviews!!
  18. I think you made the right decision to start him in level 2. Like you posted, there is plenty of review. :)
  19. Thanks! I think I'll stick with ETC until 1st grade.
  20. Thanks....1st grade is a year away for us. In the meantime, I'll continue with ETC. :)
  21. What age/grade did you start using Phonics Road? Thanks!
