  1. I just ordered the Family Math games book for younger children, so can't comment on that one, yet , but I do have Games for Math by Peggy Kaye. The games are from Kindergarten thru third grade, we love it!
  2. That's just how I feel!!!! :D :auto:
  3. I ordered SM 1a last week and it should be here this week. :) I thought about supplementing with that for a while. I know several people that use Saxon supplement it with SM. I have Saxon 2 and 3 sitting on my shelf and have thought about skipping to 3, but am a little nervous that my dd may "miss" something..
  4. That's us..if we continue with Saxon 1, we'll be done the end of summer, then onto Saxon Math 2 around Sept. For examle, I've skipped the lessons on learning time to the hour because dd knows this, so instead of going over it again, I've just skipped it. I agree, I think Saxon 1 is kindergarten material and Saxon 2 is more 1st grade. I think that Saxon is very thorough as well and the high school level always seems to get great reviews from what I've read, so I really would like to go with Saxon in high school. :)
  5. My dd actually enjoys Saxon..I feel that it drags and she could move a little faster, so that's why I've looked at other curriculum. Although, if she's not complaining then, why change...??? ;)
  6. Thanks...I'm going to look at some other curriculum before I decide 100%
  7. We have used Saxon K and are currently in Saxon Math 1. However, it is really d r a g g i n g! I'm looking for suggestions on what to do. I've thought about jumping ship and using something else for 1-3, then picking Saxon back up in 5/4. Would that work or do I need to stick with math 1-3 because of it building on top of each in preparation for 5/4 and on? I've been combining lessons and using more games, etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated???? :)
  8. My 4yo, almost 5 yo, BEGS to do ETC EVERYDAY!!! We LOVE LOVE it!!! I
  9. :bigear: I have it sitting her on my desk, but haven't installed it waiting to see if anyone comes up with anything!! :)
  10. :iagree: with the op's....it has been extremely effective for my dd as well, and ETC is all we use plus read a-longs...
  11. I started my dd on ETC when she was 4 and she loved it. She's a worky-booky type girl when it comes to phonics. Someone gave me Saxon K Phonics for free and I thought since I got it for free, then I should use it. WEEELLLLL my dd would have no part of it. I think she liked (and still does) the silly stick figure pictures in ETC!! It has been great for her, she really LOVES it!! HTH! :)
  12. I just purchased MOTL about 3 weeks ago and I couldn't find one either. I haven't heard anyone mention one on the yahoo group lately, but if I do, I'll let you know. HTH :)
  13. We are in Saxon 1 and I'm concerned my dd is bored, but is tolerating it as well. I'm considering using another curriculum, Math on The Level, for K-3 because I can go at her pace and not be stuck to a textbook "scope & sequence", then switching to 5/4. How is Saxon 5/4 set up or compared to Saxon 1-3? Is Saxon 5/4-8/7 spiral? I have Saxon 1-3 and have flipped through them and it seems Saxon 3 is just as easy as Saxon 1 with the exception of learning all the math facts....:001_unsure: Any thoughts/suggestions?????? :)
  14. My update is up...my link is in my signature.....
  15. :iagree::iagree: :D I just ordered it and it should be here any day!!!!!!! I have a Mac, so now I'm concerned! Please keep us Mac users updated. I'm looking forward to using StartWrite, BTW!!! :)
  16. :iagree: Our library has this book and I check it out ALL the time. I really need to buy my own copy!! :) Also, check out my blog. I have a recent photo of a game for math facts that my dd LOVES! (there is a game for addition and one for subtraction) She plays it everyday whether we have school or not! I found it from another blog and if you think your kiddos would like it, there is a link from my blog to the blog that has the link, so that you can print it out. Also, RightStart has a math games set. We have the set, but we haven't really used them yet, but that's another option. HTH
  17. I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but you can go to CBD's website and search for Saxon and they have sample of the pages from the texts. It may give you some idea of how the format changes when you get to Math 5/4.
  18. :iagree: Saxon has worked great in our house!
  19. The only 2 manipulatives that come to mind that you may need to purchase is a geoboard and a pan scale. Other than that it's pretty easy to use stuff from around the house. HTH!
  20. We are using Saxon and are not supplementing. I do add math games because dd loves games. I've considered supplementing, but have realized that it's just too much, at least for now. We school 3 to 4 days a week and between phonics, spelling, reading, Bible, math, science, handwriting, outdoor time, etc. there is just not enough time to throw in another thing for us to do, so for now we are good. :D HTH!
  21. AHHH...thanks for the tip. I have a 17 month old. Who is great about playing while we do school, but as you know that doesn't ALWAYS work!! ;)
  22. Thank you all for your honest input! I have somethings to think about...:)
  23. I'm looking at Rightstart Math and have read threads about it being teacher intensive..... Would like to hear opinions on this???? Thanks :001_smile:
