  1. Thanks so much for the ideas. @HunterI am honest to a fault!! I do like the idea of listing this year as Conversational Spanish. It is accurate (and therefore honest!). I do believe that the bulk of what she's learned so far is vocabulary (and a lot of useless vocabulary, at that).
  2. Help please! My daughter has taken Spanish the last several years and had she stayed at her brick and mortar school would have been taking Spanish 4 this year as a Junior. She recently started her homeschool Spanish program (through Homeschool Spanish Academy) and after the placement test was put in their Spanish 2A program. As I've gotten deeper into homeschooling, I'm not surprised as I now see that her previous school was lagging behind academically (this has been evident in her sister's classes as well). She has taken all of the hardest classes and has essentially breezed through it all. She wanted more rigor. But I think she's really disappointed to not be where she should be after so many years of Spanish. My question is, how would you list this on her transcript? She will show Spanish 1, 2, and 3 already complete. I wouldn't want to show her stepping back to Spanish 2, but can't really list it as Spanish 4 either.
  3. AEC, thanks for the reply. Calculus: Sorry, that is confusing because I was confused ;). It's Calculus BC, which is a yearlong class. The private school she attended did it AB first semester, BC second, I guess because BC reviews a lot of AB? We were trying to stay with something similar and this class is BC yearlong. Econ: It's a full year Micro class. She is saying that she may prefer a US History but I think that would be a heavier workload on top of what she already has, and I'm having trouble finding the course available at this stage anyway. As for sports, what she plays is not (yet) a college sport so we're good there. I'm hoping that her previous school will allow her to take the PSAT and APs. We do intend at this point for her to return there for her senior year, so hopefully they will work with us.
  4. My daughter is getting ready to start her 11th grade year as a first-time homeschooler/online learner. I am not comfortable teaching the subjects she needs so we are going with online vendors. I think I'm supposed to "teach" one subject so we may add a PE credit. She's a motivated student who has aspirations to go to a selective college, so I don't want to mess up! Please let me know what you think about her schedule (too much/too little/not great choices, etc) : FALL: AP Calculus AB (PA Homeschoolers) AP Language & Comp (For Such a Time as This/Stobaugh) AP Economics (PA Homeschoolers) Spanish 4 (Homeschool Spanish Academy) DE Psychology at local Community College SPRING: AP Calculus BC (PA Homeschoolers) AP Language and Comp (FSATAT/Stobaugh) AP Economics (PA Homesschoolers) Spanish 4 (if she hasn't completed it) Undecided DE class (maybe a physics?) Some of our choices are because we want to stay in line with her previous school's program. If she decides to go back mid-year or next year her classes align with where she would have been there. She's a competitive athlete that will be pursuing her sport a little more seriously so she will be playing that 5 days a week or more. She hopes to get more involved in volunteering or start club so she can meet other local homeschoolers. I'm concerned about this decision biting us in the rear end if we can't get in anywhere to take AP tests next May, and she's not attending an "accredited" program. Feel free to reassure me on that :).
  5. I am searching for a great AP Language class for my bright, focused 11th grader. We are totally new to all of this and she may return to her brick-and-mortar school for her senior year (or even for second semester this year if things are A LOT better). so I am trying to stay in line with what they offer. I've missed the boat on AP Lang at PA Homeschoolers, Debra Bell and The Potters School. I was hoping for a class with some live interaction but I'm not finding any. Any other suggestions? What are the best asynchronous AP Language classes? I think we may be able to add a class to her DE schedule if you think that's a better option. The classes available to in that scenario are ENG 111 (Writing and Inquiry) for the first semester and ENG 112 (Writing/Research in the Disciplines). Would those be a somewhat equivalent option, and then studying independently for the AP exams? Thanks so much for your help!
