Do your kids act crazy when using Skype?
anissa replied to athena1277's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Mine also act strange. However, it is with their good friend and not grandparents. Sorry, I don't know how to help I just wanted to let you know I understand. :001_smile: -

Guess I have to plan/prepare another dinner. -
I live in Ohio. My husband writes our narratives every year. I am not sure if it matters to Ohio if the teacher is licensed in another state. Welcome to the Buckeye State!

I tried to do a forum search but was not successful. I am looking for news sites that would be appropriate for my son. Some that I frequent have too much junk news (such as Lady Gaga). I know to skip this kind of thing but my son? Anyways, are there any sites or blogs out there (preferrably, free) that you could recommend?

You are not alone. I have yet to have a school year begin and end with all of my plans unaltered.

Which of these books should we do next?
anissa replied to blondeviolin's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
In my home, 5 would be too young to begin the HP series. Do you have hesitations in reading the Sorcerers Stone? Is that why you ask for advice? I have enjoyed both books. The Wizard of OZ we read as a read aloud, but everyone in my family read all the HP alone. Boy, I just typed the word 'read' quite a lot.:001_smile: -
Just need to talk out loud . . .
anissa replied to Dina in Oklahoma's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I know you want to help but if your sibling doesn't want to talk about it then I am not sure what you can do other than let him/her know you are available. My bro divorced and did not want to share. We respected his privacy. The best thing my family did for him his accept his new wife. Sorry for your sib's pain. -

Why do students need a graphing calculator?
anissa replied to TrixieB's topic in General Education Discussion Board
For the past 2 years my ds has been told he needed this type of calculator for his honor's math classes. We never bought one and he aced the classes. Most of his classmates, however, were lost without a calculator. We are entering year 3 of honor's math (10th grade) and decided to get one - used. We spent $25 on Craigslist. -
I like to go to the teacher resource stores to find my planner. I spend a very long time each summer looking through each one until I find the one closest to 'the best'. They always have seating chart pages and substitute teacher pages but I just rename and use for something else. I use to make my own but grew weary of that. Good luck!

What if you are wrong? We had a similar experience a couple of years ago (cars broken into). We caught the teens, they ran. I thought one was a neighbor boy. My dh and I decided we weren't 100% sure so we said nothing. We did not want to create neighbor wars. Anyways, it turns out we were wrong. The police arrested 2 boys neither of which was our suspect. If I were you, I would form a neighborhood watch to end the trouble. That way you are not confronting this alone.

Mystery of History Users--- quick question
anissa replied to RainbowSprinkles's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
You could start right away with only the text. However, I think having a timeline is invaluable. I purchased the timeline figures in the past but my dc are enjoying making their own this year. You will also need access to historical maps. I found mine in other history books, the internet, library books, and the back of my Bible. Oh, I also already owned a bible atlas which helped. If money were no issue, I would have loved to have had Map trek by knowledge Quest. I hope that helps. -
Bible stories-mostly OT
anissa replied to mommymilkies's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Could you read to your children straight from the scriptures? Also, Egermeir's Bible storybook might work for you (at least for the little ones).
