  1. I have a lot of sympathy for the chronically late, because I believe that 99% of the time it's unintentional. But if the mom has the balls to interrupt and ask you to catch her child up, she's needs to get a grip on reality. A meeting, a letter, a phone call--something! To let her know that she can't be a disruptive presence when she arrives late.
  2. My (teacher) husband hates all these weird days too. Rally schedules, staff development, collaboration time, etc., all eat into teaching time and provide very little benefit that he can see. He had a staff development day--no students--on Monday which was a new low in his 18 year career. His district paid (and probably quite well) for a "consultant" to come in and have the teachers do things like walk in concentric circles while telling each other, "You are awesome!" and "I want to learn more about you!" The weirdest part was the 45 minutes (no exaggeration) they played a game where you made a sound, the person to your left made a different sound, and the person across from you made a third sound. Then the person on their left started it all over. I think the sounds were something like "Wooooooo!" "Zap!" "Kooooow!" They did it over and over and over until they got the pattern of words and order of people right. I don't know whether we should be laughing or crying, but crying feels more appropriate.
  3. Ooo, a little off topic (but related to my earlier post on the Year of Faith), but how cool is this? For this Year of Faith, Pope Benedict has encouraged you to study and reflect on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Well, here's an easy way to do it. Simply enter your email address and - starting October 11, 2012 - you'll start getting a little bit of the Catechism emailed to you every morning. Read that little bit every day and you'll read the whole catechism in a year. http://www.flocknote.com/catechism
  4. I made this horrific discovery last year. :001_huh: It was traumatizing at the time.
  5. Thanks for sharing Bethany, it reminded me that today begins the Year of Faith for us Catholics. From Pope Benedict XVI: "The Year of Faith....is a summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the one Savior of the world." I figured you'd all appreciate his use of the word authentic. :001_smile:
  6. I find these "stupid (insert type--whoever disagrees with me) Christians, ha ha ha" threads distasteful, and I don't even have a problem with Halloween. Does every single post read like that, no--but plenty do.
  7. Here are a couple of posts about it from the apologists at Catholic Answers. http://forums.catholic.com/showthread.php?t=85409&highlight=should+I+pray+the+rosary+during+Mass http://forums.catholic.com/showthread.php?t=4416&highlight=should+I+pray+the+rosary+during+Mass
  8. Praying for good news, health and job wise. :grouphug:
  9. I hope all went well. :grouphug: I wish I had read this before. I spent six months on bedrest, three of those in the hospital, and dealt with a baker's dozen of doctors and nurses. Above all, be confident and tell them exactly what you want. Bring medical literature to back up your requests. Be firm but insistent. Have an advocate there for the times you are too sick to advocate for your baby and yourself. Hang in there. :grouphug:
  10. I hate when I accept friend requests from people I like, only to discover that they are annoying and obnoxious on fb. The passive aggressive quotes, the scolding, the politics--things that would never come up in real life because we are friends at dance, or my kids know your kids, etc., but we aren't bff's. That's rare, so I just hide them and try not to think about it when we meet.
  11. We've had lots of luck at 6pm. http://www.6pm.com/boots~6#!/women-boots/CK_XARCz1wHAAQHiAgMBAhg.zso?s=price/asc/
  12. It's not rude, but it's discouraged because you are supposed to be paying attention to the Mass. I get the distracted thing though, I fail every week.
  13. Adorable little man, and she's pretty cute too! ♥♥♥
  14. It's a little extreme, but due to ever-increasing cable/phone/internet charges, we switched to OOMA (which I heard about on these very forums). So we got a new number, and have only given it out to friends, family, and doctors offices/etc. It's been a blessed relief, because even though I never, ever answered those telemarketer calls, they never, ever gave up. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, because I wasn't as attached to my number as I was to my money (we are saving $80/month on Comcast) and peace and quiet.
  15. My dd has a meniscal cyst, and probably a torn meniscus. The radiologist said it needs to come out, because although he's 99.9% sure it's a meniscal cyst, there's a small chance it could be malignant. We'll have our follow-up appointment with the sports medicine doctor on Monday, but I want to know more now.:tongue_smilie: If you or your child/spouse have had this surgery, how was it pain-wise and recovery-wise? Really, anything you can tell me about it would be great.
  16. It would be strange if you weren't scared. :grouphug: Praying for good news.
  17. Great work! If her first video is that good, I can only imagine how she'll be in a few years!
  18. Thank you. :grouphug: I do feel sorry for my young self, but after so many years I can almost laugh about it.
  19. Joanne for the win! Here's mine, and let me preface by saying that it's is the first time I'm talking about this in almost 30 years. As a young teen, I was 4-wheeling on an ATV down at the river bottoms. I really had to pee. :tongue_smilie: So I found what I thought was an isolated, private area. How surprised was I when a conclave of homeless men gave me a cheer when I was done? VERY. I still blush when I think of it.
