  1. Hello! I pulled my two daughters from their school last month and we've been schooling at home. It was a fast decision and we've been coasting along without much of a plan (unschool/deschool?). Meanwhile, I've been trying to research the best way to homeschool. I think that I would like to continue for at least a couple of years. I picked up the "Well-Trained Mind" last week and think the classical methods would be a great fit! I have two questions so far. First, my oldest is in third grade. She is a voracious reader and independent while also being very easily frustrated. The recommendation in the book is to do dictation exercises at this age. Since I'm starting her late, can I just have her copy passages for now to make an easier transition. I think the dictation would upset her if she can't remember the whole passage. To piggyback on that question, does anyone have recommendations for a child that has a low frustration tolerance? She's being challenged in math for the first time. As soon as I present new information, there are tears. I am a former math teacher myself, so I know how to build incrementally. She'll get it after she gives it a few minutes, but we have to get through an initial stage of distress. It's very frustrating to me. Most of homeschool has been a joy but I'm starting to see my patience wear thin. Thank you! I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions as we begin.
